IC thread behind this link.
(Note: this is written assuming you know about the setting of FFX. Knowledge of the overall plot is not necessary, but it helps. If you do need to know anything, you can find it here.)

In a world set 200 years before the events of the game, High Summoner Hedrec's Calm has ended. Sin has attacked again. Several summoners have already completed their training and set off on their grand pilgrimage to Zanarkand. One summoner has almost finished his training, and will address the fayth tomorrow. This... is the tale of that summoner.

All basic YCM rules apply. This includes the Advanced Clause, being polite, no god-moding, no power-playing, and no meta-gaming. Break these and you will be ticked on the following warning system:

One instance: reminder
Twice: reminder and warning
Three times: -1 rep, final warning
Fourth occurrence: -1 rep, banned for one week
Fifth offense: -1 rep and out of the RP

Fair warning: I am a tad strict on the rules--correct me if I falsely accuse someone.

Only one summoner and four guardians are allowed for open slots (this is subject to change if the RP gets big enough). However, you are still allowed to make villains and support characters (such as blitzball players or priests of Yevon). Just remember: you may not make a character of a race or job that you wouldn't find in Spira. And finally, relations to canon characters are not allowed. Coincidences are okay, but keep them small.

Half-breeds are not allowed. They were a rather new thing by the time of the game's events, and this is 200 years before. You are allowed to play one of the non-human races, but please act like a member of that race, and expect to be treated like one. For example, if you are playing a Hypello, your dialogue will be in the weird accent, and you will be asking several rhetorical questions. And don't try and be an Al Bhed who worships Yevon--that kind of thing is rather unheard of.

Speaking of Al Bhed, a character of the race will be fluent in the language. How well they speak English is up to you. If you are speaking in Al Bhed, keep the font in a dark blue, with words in English in magenta.

Username: Hydra of Thunder
Character Name: Susano
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Role: Summoner
Class: Summoner/Monk. Aside from his Aeons, he fights primarily with his bare fists rather than using offensive magic or a weapon. His strengths are high Agility, Strength and Health, but his Defense suffers due to a lack of armor, and he has little grasp of Magic outside of Summoning Spells.
Appearance: Susano is a tall, handsome-looking man with long, slightly spiky red hair. His hair mostly cascades over his back, though with a little bit of a lift, and ends about a hand's length down from his shoulders, except for a single lock that moves between the outside of his left eye and between his eyes. This lock is strangely expressive, seemingly changing along with Susano's mood; as such, it is rather easy to tell what kind of mood he is in at all times.
Susano's face is dominated by his permanent smile, showing off his immaculately-kept teeth. His eyes are large, expressive and colored a bright jade, prone to gesturing and moving wildly along with Susano when he tries to convey something. His nose is sharp but unobtrusive, and his facial features are slightly convex, pulling everything together into a single area.
His body is incredibly athletic from countless years of changing, which he likes to show off at any opportunity. While his musculature isn't quite herculean, it still has trimmed all remnant of fat to leave behind a sculpted figure with obvious muscle lines; Susano is quite proud of his body, and takes great care to keep it in the best shape possible.
Susano wears a pair of traditional Geta on his feet, along with a long, flowing traditional robe. The robe is completely white, with blue designs according to symbols of Yevon inscribed along the sides, and is left untied so that Susano can fling it aside at a moment's notice; it is usually kept close with a bow-like ribbon tied around his waist that can be quickly unfastened. Beneath that, he wears a pair of simple-to-move-in blue pants, which are tied securely around his waist with a traditional obi.
Susano attempts to keep the amount of frivolous items he wears to a minimum, though he does keep a pair of dark blue leather fingerless gloves that he'll often wear on business as a Summoner. While the gloves are tough enough to use in combat, they are also inscribed with the notes of the Hymn of Faith and thus, Susano finds the idea of fighting with them on repellent.
Personality: Susano is an unfailingly happy individual- perhaps a bit too much so. He is renown for his endless enthusiasm and almost arrogant belief in that he can do anything so long as he puts his mind to it- indeed, most people think that he become a summoner just for the chance to punch Sin in the face. Susano has an infectious confidence, making him an individual that you have to respect to a certain point. While few would hurry to say that he has even basic common sense, they can at least say that his heart is in the right place- and it always is. In public, Susano is always the optimist, and refuses to let anything, no matter how dire, bring his mood down. He always focuses on pressing on, and never looks back onto what has been lost.
That said, Susano isn't stupid. While he vastly prefers to fight his problems head on, he has a great mind for puzzles and is an expert at picking up lies from social cues. Often, the only reason he acts so naive is that it helps others to think of him as the lovable idiot, the idealist, rather than as a distant academic. He also enjoys his enemies underestimating him.
Susano places a massive amount of emphasis on the idea of honor and fair play. He despises cheaters and liars more than anything, and vows to himself that he'll never fight unfairly- even against the most evil of Sinspawn, he'll refuse to preform an ambush or attack the enemy from a helpless position.
Susano tries to act like he wants to see the world: a place where honest effort can get you anything, full of truth and honor, where everyone cares for everyone else. He holds himself up to great standards for this; his greatest emotional insecurity is when he's unable to live up to his own expectations, and begins to break down.
Bio: A child abandoned by his parents when he was four to the Temple of Djose, Susano grew up with the teachings of Yevon foremost in his mind. The priest of the temple of the time became surrogate parent and teacher to him, and through his teachings, Susano grew up with the stories of Sin and the summoners who had defeated him in the past.
While he had been originally raised with the intention of him becoming a Warrior Monk, Susano was eventually discovered to have a great affinity with the Fayth. Susano's reverence for the High Summoners of old, however, and their eventual deaths in the line of duty lead him to having a brief falling out with the church when he heard this. Unable to believe that he could be counted among the great High Summoners in the past and simultaneously unable to dedicate himself to a destiny ultimately culminating with his death, he turned to juvenile delinquency and denied his faith for a time.
Just as the priests were about to deem him a lost cause, however, Susano did something he thought unspeakable: he intruded into the Sanctum of the Temple, intent on meeting the Fayth that lived there. Upon getting to the door, however, he felt his resolve waver and the Hymn of the Faith resonated into his mind. He fell asleep, had a dream he couldn't remember upon waking, and from that point on felt sanctified. His realization was as such: He couldn't live up to the great High Summoners, so his life was worthless. As such, the best he could hope to do for it was to give it away for Spira's sake, and attempt to emulate the Greats the best he can.
From that point on, Susano became a Summoner and dedicated everything in his life to the concept of perfection- in mind, body and spirit.
Other notes: Susano's Sending takes the form of an elegant martial arts Kata rather than the traditional dance. While the motions and effect are the same, the change better fits Susano's lack of a staff-weapon and stronger form.

Username: Codename: Lady
Character Name: Sella
Race: Human?
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Role: Guardian
Class: Alchemist. Sella is the jack-of-all-trades on the team. Nimble, armored, strong, and able to take a few hits with her armor, Sella isn't especially strong in any category, but she isn't weak either.
Appearance: Sella has tan skin and black hair in dreadlocks, though some of the dreads have blonde hair inside of them. She always wears her welding goggles, and never takes them off. Her uniform consists of a combination of silver armor and an outfit similar to Rikku's diving suit. She carries a backpack with all sorts of stuff inside, as well as a modular rifle that can change into various forms.
Personality: Sella is very energetic and cheery, but this is mainly to hide her true nature and distract from her true self. In reality, she is scared of others, mainly because she is worried she will be caught and discriminated against because of what she truly is.
Bio: According to Sella, she was a member of the Warrior Monks until her unit was wiped out in a battle too traumatic for Sella to willingly tell anyone about. She has been working as a mercenary for a while, but the pay hasn't been very good. Therefore, she is throwing her lot in with the new summoner to be a Guardian, figuring she doesn't have anything to lose. However, her past, her TRUE past, is going to catch up to her.
Other notes: Sella is secretly an Al Bhed, and is Erril's kid sister. Everything about her being an elite Crusader is a lie. If she were to be discovered as either the sister of the infamous sky pirate or as a fake Crusader, she would be in serious trouble.

Username: PikMan

Character Name: Kyleen Hail

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Role: Guardian

Class: White Mage/Scholar. As a mage, she has a shameful Strength stat, but average Agility and moderately high Defense. Predictably, she has plenty of White Magic up her sleeve. She actually prefers to use Protect and Shell instead of Cure, but she heals when the party needs it. On the rare occasions she does attack, she uses a hammer. She can also detect an enemy's weakness.

Appearance: Kyleen has brown hair with blonde streaks. Her hair is tied together into a ponytail by a green ribbon and goes about 5 inches past her neck. She's a bit small for her age. She’s flat-chested, has large blue eyes, and has freckles across her nose. She wears a light blue shirt with green sleeves and a white skirt that stops at about her knees. Over that she wears a white robe with red designs at the bottom. The robe is open, so you can see a bit of her shirt and skirt when she's wearing it. She wears red boots that have white patterns on them. She has a blue bracelet on her right arm. Her hammer typically rests in a pouch on her back, along with several books. Said hammer is wooden with metal on either side of the business end. The pouch is attached to a brown leather strap that goes over her left shoulder.

Personality: Kyleen has quite a bit of self-doubt and is incredibly shy, but makes up for it with her almost encyclopediac intelligence. (Encyclopediac… is that even a word?) Despite her low self-esteem, she does care a lot about the summoner and her fellow guardians, and tends to act as the moral center of the group. Unlike most people in Spira, she doesn’t really mind the Al Bhed. She figures out Sella’s identity pretty quickly, and agrees to keep it a secret.

Bio: When Kyleen was a young girl living with her uncle, Sin attacked her hometown. An Al Bhed named Cid (This wouldn’t be Final Fantasy without Cid, you know) helped the townspeople escape by airship. Although her uncle was one of the 99% of people who dislike the Al Bhed and thus didn’t appreciate the help, Kyleen was pretty thankful and respected the Al Bhed from that point on. When she was 12 she expressed interest in joining the Al Bhed, and ran away from home. During her travels she learned the art of White Magic. However, she worried continuously over what her uncle was thinking, and over the next four years her self-confidence disappeared because she considered herself a horrible person for running away. It got the point where she gave up on going to the Al Bhed. Then one day she crossed paths with Susano and his guardians, and decided that risking her life on Spira's behalf would be better than wasting it.

Other notes: She can fluently speak Al Bhed. She also never learned to swim.

Username: Random Dude
Character Name: Gazna
Race: Ronso
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Role: Guardian
Class: Dragoon/Blue Mage. His physical strength and endurance are low for Ronso, but his speed and his skill at learning the skills from fiends more than make up for it. He uses a two sided glaive instead of a spear because it better fits his fighting style which makes use of flips, jumps, and spins. Can learn skills from fiends using his Lancet and his current repertoire consists of Goblin Punch, Fire Breath, Acid, White Wind, and Mighty Guard.

Appearance: Instead of the big and bulky build typical of male Ronso, he is considerably smaller in both height and muscle mass. He has blue and white fur, the white being longer, but only found on his chest, scalp, arms, legs, and the tip of his tail with the fur on his head being the longest, like hair on humans. The fur on his head is not styled in any way, he just leaves it as it is and he has a white horn on his forehead, a symbol of masculinity among Ronso and considerably large for their standards. He wears a cloth that goes down to his knees tied by a thick rope and has a harness on his chest with a pair of small plate shoulder pads. Has a pair of simple arm bracers and shin guards that provide decent protection while not encumbering the user. Has a distinctive scar on is cheek that came from a fight he had with another Ronso when he attempted to return to his village.

Personality: Overly serious and dedicated to his duty as guardian, and hopelessly antisocial. He grows irritated whenever he has to put up with too many people which is why he will generally be found standing in a corner quietly, and when irritated enough, will roar and scare off everyone that isn't used to being around him. Will only talk to his summoner and his fellow guardians, but is generally quiet. In battle he is the kind of person to stand back and then jump in if he sees that the enemy is beyond the skills of the others. Like the rest of his race, he is very proud, easily angered, and prefers actions over words.

Bio: Son of a highly acclaimed and very large Ronso warrior, he was expected to grow into one of the largest of his kind, however by the time everyone was aware of his growth pattern, they realized he would be considerably smaller than other Ronso and would never be as strong as the rest of his kind. His father however put him under a fierce training regiment that would emphasize his speed and agility over power. This proved effective in making him a warrior as he challenged a very strong, but trouble making Ronso warrior little older than he was for the privilege to accompany a young Ronso summoner on his pilgrimage. Gazna nearly defeated him, but the other Ronso warrior charged him and knocked him off the mountain of Gagazet into a crevasse where he was presumed dead and the other warrior was given the honor of accompanying the summoner on his pilgrimage. Gazna realized he still had much to learn and attempted to climb back up the mountain, but was stopped by the other Ronso who told him he was believed to be dead and unless he left the mountain he actually would be and pointed a spear at Gazna. Gazna fought him again and received a scar on his face from the other. He won the fight but left of his own accord stating that the summoner would not go far in his pilgrimage and he would seek out another summoner to accompany and guard until they reached Zanarkand. He set off on his journey to find a summoner and found a boy in Djose who he believed had the potential to defeat Sin and had physical strength rivaling that of a young Ronso instead of the typical frailty associated with practitioners of magic.

Other notes: Held in high regard by the Guado for his skill in Blitzball, but does not play in any major team. Likes Tonberries and wants to keep one as a pet.

Username: Grandt
Character Name: Erril
Race: Al Bhed
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Role: Villain
Class: Gunner/Red Mage--His primary weapon is his gun. It's loaded with all sorts of doohickeys that allow him to tackle any situation head-on.
Appearance: At first glance, he looks much like any other Al Bhed. Green eyes, blond hair (which he keeps in a long, knee-length ponytail), and tan skin. He also keeps his clothing rather simple--a dark red shirt, yellow vest and pants, and brown banded gloves and boots which reach to his elbows and knees, respectively. His weapon, however, is what makes him stand out. It's a large gun, with an incredibly thick frame, a long, thin barrel, and an indiscriminate amount of little buttons and levers on both sides of it. He always keeps it hefted over one shoulder, and Yevon knows what he can do with it.

Personality: A rather polite man, Erril is courteous to all around him. That is, until you start doing things he doesn't like... Which someone should really keep a list of. His superiority complex will make him ask you to stop, and if you don't, he will use force until things go his way.

Bio: Leader of the rogue Al Bhed group known as the Scorpions, he roams Spira in his ship, attempting to set up defense points against Sin. Of course, no one wants him there, so he always ends up shooting at a few innocents and taking off to the next town. Now that the Calm has ended, he's been trying harder than ever to get this done. He keeps a lid on his past, having absolutely no spheres recorded of it, and if anyone asks, he changes the subject. All anyone knows is that he hates Sin, but hates the teachings of Yevon even more. Praying is a no-no around him.

Other notes: He can fluently speak English, but he will only do so if no one is around to translate his native tongue.

Username: PikMan

Character Name: Ryth

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Age: 36

Role: Villain (the main antagonist if possible)

Class: Red Mage/Bard. He has low physical stats, although his Health and Agility are moderately high. His magic is mostly geared towards Black Magic, his favorite in particular being the Demi spells and Bio. For his weapon, he uses the bladestaff, a weapon of his own design which is a magical rod with a sword blade on the other end. Also being a bard, he uses his lute to control Sin (see Bio and Other Notes). He only controls Sin when the two are in close proximity, and uses magic and the bladestaff when they are not.

Appearance: Has white hair about as long as Tidus's, and has mismatched eyes of red and blue. His hair comes down in bangs in front of his face, most of which covers his right eye (His red one). His eyebrows curve in slighly. He's fairly tall with slightly pale skin. He isn't very stocky, but isn't extremely thin either. His legs are relatively long. He wears a black, loose-fitting tunic along with a red cape with a white stripe along the bottom. The cape has a long tear near the left. He also wears a black hood and crimson pants with black boots. Under his tunic he wears a blue shirt. He wears a brown belt with a lute and the bladestaff on it. Over his left hand he has a brown fingerless glove. (I should probably note he's left handed.) Under the glove is a burn mark, which was a result of his first attempt at magic.

Personality: Simply put, Ryth has no regard for human life, and is not above murder and deception to achieve his goals. He is annoyingly persistent in his quest to kill the summoners and destroy Spira, and is actually pretty sadistic. Due to his past, he is strongly opposed to Yevon.

Bio: Ryth grew up in a small town where he became friends with someone who would eventually become one of Hedrec's guardians. Unfortunately, that guardian was what became the Final Aeon, and thus the next Sin. During the events of the story, he accidentally discovers this, and becomes cold and twisted, and desires to take his revenge on Spira, and Yevon in particular, for its indifference. His primary goal is to destroy the summoners, and with them out of the way, use Sin to destroy Spira without any opposition.

Other notes: Having personally known Sin, he can control it by using its past form's favorite songs. He can only control Sin to a limited degree, though, and can't sic it on anyone in particular. This is why he tends to use his Mage skills more often.

None yet.
Reservations: None.
Whoever gets to that spot first can claim it. Frankly, I'm not very good at roleplaying that kind of character myself, so I left it open to the public. Hopefully we'll get someone good and active.

If you're not comfortable making such an important character yourself, then may I suggest turning them into an NPC? It's up to you, of course; just giving some advice~

Fixed. Thanks.
I also think Sella could be a romantic option for the Summoner.
BTW, you're fine with Sella being Erril's sister? Because I never intended that to happen initially. I just noticed that our characters were both Al Bhed, and they had similar names, so the idea just popped into my head.

Both accepted.

CL, I don't mind. I like good plot setups, and the "related to a villain" thing can go really well if we do it right.

Hydra, your app is... very well written. It's good that our summoner has enough backstory to go on during his pilgrimage.

I plan on starting when we have at least one more guardian and at least one app besides him/her (which could very well be another guardian).

I haven't gotten very far in the game yet (I'm at the first Seymour battle), but I need some information on this because I think I worked out a good motive for my villain: What exactly are the circumstances under which someone could become Sin? Could it be a guardian, like Jecht?

Never mind, I looked up the answer on the FF Wikia. However, I'm planning on having my character become a villain during the story. When I do the form, should the bio/personality/etc. be before or after he turns bad?

Edit: I should probably mention that he won't get much screen time before he makes the switch. Also, it needs to happen while both he and the main party are on a boat at some point. (You'll see why)

Doesn't really matter. Either one works. Considering that my character doesn't have much good-guy screen time, I'll just do his the app as a villain:

PikMan, accepted.

CL, I may point at an earlier post:

Both accepted.

CL, I don't mind. I like good plot setups, and the "related to a villain" thing can go really well if we do it right.

Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to what your app was before I accepted it.

Btw, I should probably elaborate on my villain's motives: Remember in FFX that scene when Tidus found out what happened at the end of the pilgrimage and had a huge whinefest? The same basic thing happens here when he finds out about Sin's past identity, only this time he turns evil.

Edit: Can I also make a guardian?

How could I forget all that angst? If I wasn't making fun of it, it'd keep me up at night

Anyway, yes, you are allowed to create a guardian, but I'd prefer to have at least one other player before we start.

One last thing: starting sometime Thursday afternoon (US central time), I'll be away for a few days. If anyone wants to volunteer as co-host, that'd be great.

Could I post the bio but not join in for a while? That way someone else could join in. But if the maximum for the entire RP is 4 guardians, I won't post it. How's that sound?

Go ahead. FFX isn't as popular a roleplay 'verse as, say, Pokemon, so you may as well claim another guardian spot if no one else comes in for it.

I wouldn't mind Co-hosting, especially since I'm playing the summoner anyway.

Sounds good. If enough people come in over the next few days, you can start the IC up. Not sure if that'll happen though >.>

Well, I may as well post the app. It probably won't get accepted since there's only 2 guardian spots left, but I just want to get it out anyway. You don't have to use it, but I think it's pretty good.
