Try messing with it a bit and see if you can get your setting established or not. I think you've got a good start so far though.
Well, my thoughts were: "BlazBlue is a giant 'HEY DUMBASSES THIS IS HOW YOU DO CHARACTERS AND STORIES RIGHT', so why not use it as a basis?" Seems a good idea, and I will =o
I cant make suggestions since I have no idea what the fic is about or anything
Similar to DEF. I'd planned something like DEF at the same Fuse started, but neither of use knew, and he published his first, so I was like "OH... Don't want to look like a copycat...", but now that it's over, I can.
Ultimate Assassin Ninjew
AH ok ok. Well then yeah a school setting is definitely a good idea. Or something like a military base.
Blake
Well, the school would only be a kick start. Afterward, it would just be a base to return to, if anything.
BlackSkullCortez
However, the government decided to experiment on the what-if scenario of a human being able to harness the power of energy absorption. It performs inhuman experiments on a group of people and it works, but it has a poisonous effect on the body. The experiment subjects manage to break loose and their condition spreads like a virus. Most of the global populace dies out from the condition, but the remaining few manage to survive and develop an immunity, thus gaining the power to absorb energy. See, Black? Evolution.*shot* And from that point, over a few generations, most of the human populace functions on absorbing energy. As later generations were born, though, depending on where their parents lived or did in their lifetimes, certain children were only able to absorb energy from certain things. The ability to expel the absorbed energy has developed by this time, and there are only certain abilities in certain people. Totally not Fusion and Cortez from Hadora. Hm... but if this is a YCM FF, I guess that works. One guy could only absorb oxygen, carbon dioxide, and whatever else is in fire to make fire. Same for another guy with hydrogen and oxygen to make water. And so on. ... isn't this... kind of explosive? The general thing works, though, but we shouldn't limit it to creation.
... from now on, every time we think of something for an FF like this, I may or may not make an evolution joke. Okay, I'm going to try to develop on this. MANKIND EVOLV*decapitated, quartered, hanged, shot ten times in the chest, burned at the stake, drowned, crush at the wheel* *ahem* Okay, I'm going to try to create a basis that caused the energy absorption/manipulation. And I'm going to base it off of CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research. Don't ask), because it makes the most sense to me to create a world with this kind of thing.
CERN is trying to find the Higgs Boson. They believe that it was the particle that was created at the beginning of the universe that was able to create matter and energy, and wanted to reproduce it to confirm a theory of the universe, which would be true if this one point existed. CERN did not discover the Higgs Boson. At least, not what they thought of. At the end of their experiments, they created a particle that matched the same properties as the Higgs Boson would. However, instead of giving off matter, it began producing hundreds of different kinds of energy that scientists were not aware of, and fell apart soon after. CERN then created a second organization, which you can name whatever you want, but for this purpose only, since Fusion's concept made me think of Hadora, it will be known as Gravix. The sole purpose of Gravix was for testing the world and passing particles for these hundreds of types of energies and put it for practical uses. Because of the high world population, Gravix also collected a number of human tests and tested them for these energies. Soon after, Gravix was able to produce hundreds of things with these energies: nutrients, eco-friendly and fast transportation, enormous cities, etc. They could produce a machine for every task. However, afterwards, a solar flare came by earth. It was deflected by the electromagnetic field, but harmless particles passed through the earth and produced a new kind of energy that rendered the technology useless. Gravix, realizing how vast the universe is and how many energies they may have to search for, began using people as experiments to test if they can give them properties to absorb that energy and use it to manipulate things in the world. They realized that manipulating one kind of energy allows people to manipulate two elements that create something in the real world, such as fire, water, electricity, magnetism, you name it. It also creates an unknown "energy field" around the user, which allows them to manipulate the object they created. However, they also realized that the people became sick after controlling one kind and immediately died with the ability to control two. Overnight, each member realized they had the abilities they were testing, and it soon occurred to them they created a virus. And then this goes to the Fusion scenario. The problem that I have with this is getting a high school scenario, but you can probably do that yourself. And I won't shove this one down your throat. =)

Blake
Maybe because A. It's not sage mode ._. They use it for energy and can only abuse, like, one thing. B. This can have an actual reasonable backstory, as opposed to herpderpkarma I'll read sOon, Clrtez, but I'll say this: BlazBlue is post nuclear holocaust ._. BlackSkullCortez
... okay. Sorry, didn't really know what BlazBlue was beforehand. But mine's more like post-second-bubonic-plague. Figuratively.
Fusion X. Denver
Although...I kinda thought of Sage Mode before writing that whole thing >3> Or more like Hadora Fusion, which was originally inspired by Sage Mode (damn u cortez). I never mind a high school setting and it can add emotional teen drama to things, so do whatever works.

BlackSkullCortez
DL, don't worry. It's nothing like that at all. I haven't left the idea in my head for so long and came up with something so simple. It WAS that at one point, but I realized soon after I should just let it develop. And now I came up with something moderately original.
DL
aww, but that woulda been such an epic idea >:
BlackSkullCortez
It's something somebody else should use. I don't really feel like I would use it well without bringing a power level above DBZ. And if that happens, what's the point of dueling in the first place? Although something similar is able to happen.
DL
...why would it need a power level over DBZ? O-o Tho if the monsters were oversouls, I don't imagine there'd be dueling at all XD
BlackSkullCortez
It wouldn't need it. It's just... since my FF takes place in 2060 something... And cards become more OP'd as time passes... And I were to make monsters into oversouls... ... yeah. You'd even understand if you read my last one. I made a dragon that could eat the moon whole. DL
he ate WHAT o_o' ...actually, by that time they'd have lvl 4 vanillas with 3000+ attack...so you're right :'o
BlackSkullCortez
All we can do now is HAIL BUNILLA. But, luckily, in NB, the Yugioh company keeps their sanity and doesn't do 3000+ ATK vanillas. But they make such powerful cards almost all of them are limited in tournaments. BlackSkullCortez
... BlackSkullCortez
And then you mill, like, 3 Wulfs at once. Apparently a friend of mine got that to happen before. EDIT: Yes you did. [s]And you're going to again.[/s]
Blake
I don't think wulf would work, given he's being sent by a coat, but I might be remembering his wording wrong. Fusion X. Denver
Milling is the one strategy I don't think I'll ever run, too much to keep track of.
