You know what I want the 5th YGO protagonist to be?
A girl.
And not just a girl, a girl with average skill with around the same number of wins and losses.
That'd be interesting to see.

Girl protagonist, I agree

Average protagonist...meh

I'd rather see a duelist that experiences actual growth

like Yugi

He became a much better duelist, despite Pharaoh winning most of his duels

Yugi never sucked .-.
At least, not in the manga.

And I was thinking something like Joey for this girl protagonist. Take someone who's new to DM but loves the game and you've got a good character with believable progress like Joey.

But Season 1 Joey was a bigger Sue than Yugi O_o

Hell, I think, throughout the series, Joey was a bigger Sue, he just got beat once per season (Maybe 2 times like Battle City), but he had THE biggest asspulls and THE cheapest cards

And he lost plenty of times

Just not dueing important times :3
^That's basically my argument, I mean you're not wrong, but a lot of those were luck-involved and his loss record against Yugi's is pretty staggering...
And his progress is much more obvious. He went from depending on Yugi against Mai to nearly defeating Marik in Battle City.

Pyramid of Light sucked...
But yeah, I'd say Joey is my favorite character out of all the series, followed by Jaden and then Yugi.
Jaden's annoying, imo.

The other's I agree, but I'd replace Jaden with either Chazz or Bastion.

Jaden's best feature to me was his happy-go-lucky attitude, though I see how that annoys some people :T
Yeah that personality is spammed about the anime universe way too much. If you ask me, a good main character goes through more defeats than victories. That way it's MUCH more worth seeing them win.

I personally love Jaden <3

And apparently he gets a lot of character depth in Seasons 3 and 4, so I would like to watch GX fully one day

Manga Jaden was also really cool tho

Not quite as happy go lucky, but just as...cool, I suppose

Yeah, but you don't want too many, otherwise people will question the main character's worth even before it gets to that point.

I wouldn't say a ton, but he does change some, yeah.
Manga Jaden is much more 3-dimensional which is why he comes off as cooler.

The trick is to have the main character come off as a loser, but, through effort, willpower, and a bit of luck, be able to win

Like Naruto

And yeah, he's really 3-dimensional

Plus, the manga's art is really a lot like the anime's

But I feel it's a tad better at times

Speaking as one who's read the manga and watched the anime, I would say the manga's better, but a hell of a lot shorter.
And GX was mostly made up of filler episodes, but that can't be helped when you're working with a school setting.
