Ok, I'm confused as hell on something. I've tried scouring the internet but it's only made me more confused.

If cards like Sangan are detached from being Xyz materials, do their effects activate? I've seen some things say they're considered not on the field, it's like they're in a different area, like being banished. While others say they are on the field. Apparently it's because of the ruling differences between the TCG/OCG or something.

I've heard things like Sangan won't but Tengu's would, and a material Plaguespread won't banish even if its eff was used, and I've heard things that contradict all of those.

So, I have no idea...

@Toot: Yeah, I think I may have beaten you before with it.

I once used Mirror Force and was fixing to win on my turn but got A.S.S.d because this guy said it was a banned card. XP

In the TCG (AKA DN) if Sangan is detached, it gains its effect. Hence why Tour Guidex3+Sangan = Staple Engine

In TCG, the cards are still treated as being on the field, but have all field presence effects essentially negated. When they are detached, they would activate as if they had been sent from the field to the Graveyard. So, Plague would be banished if summoned by its effect, as would Birdman/Quilbolt/Fader/etc. Cards like Sangan, Tengu and Goblin Zombie will still all be able to use their effects, since they were sent from the field to the Graveyard. OCG plays it differently, the "proper" way. Both ways have their flaws. OCG has Quilbolt and PLaguespreader issues, whereas TCG has Sangan and Tengu issues, because they overpower said cards.
