TwIsTeD GaArA_95
Hello, Good evening and potato. I am as you will know if you read the subtitle an ex admin of a small gaming site known as gametubby.com. Sadly we have since removed it and gone on to bigger and brighter things. I wish to now post my reviews on here as long as they are acceptable and if you like them i may make them a sort of weekly/biweekly thing. For my first review I decided to have a little play with the new Mortal Kombat and as you will read i quite enjoyed it. My reviews are in 4 categories which are; Game play Graphics Sound Creativity and Features Which are all subject to change depending on you the readers. So lets get this first review underway. Game play The game is set like most of the other offerings in the mortal kombat franchise, basic linear combat that is enjoyable and rewarding, this game is designed to be a re-envisioning for the franchise where they try to breathe new life into it by returning to its roots and the entire game is done like a huge what if story. Like all previous mortal kombat games the objective is simple, beat your opponent up until their health reaches zero. This game however tries to change some of that with the special meter and the bottom of the screen which when filled at three different stages do a variety of things but i will touch on those later. The game has a fully in depth story mode as well as having the classic ladder and a new tag ladder system, a first for the franchise. You can also do up to 4 player local play and 4 player online capabilities. Graphics When i took my first look at the game i didn't expect much from the graphics at all but i was pleasantly surprised as they are clear and crisp and full of both vibrant colours it is also full of dark stages very similar to the older more familiar stages. All the stages where you fight on are re designs of existing stages ranging from the first mortal kombat up until the third (excluding of course the god of war themed stage only for PS3). The FMV's during the games story mode are where the games graphics really shine as they are really very impressive and as you progress you will find yourself being stunned over and over again. In mortal kombat one thing you have to expect is blood and gore and you will see through this game more than you will ever need in one lifetime. Sound The game is full of all the iconic mortal kombat themes that have appeared over the years and while it is nice to hear the new and beautiful themes there is a way to hear all the old ones you pumped coins in the arcade machines hearing time and time again. The music isn't the only great thing in the sound category the effects are just as stunning, the amount of rib cracking, face punching, stomach straining sounds you hear through the game are incredible and you just want to hear more. Creativity and Features Ever since the early arcade and home console ports of mortal kombat they have found more and more ways to innovate the fighting game genre and i will name but a few in this latest installment. The Super meter as i have stated earlier is a new addition and it allows you to pull of simple enhanced versions of your normal moves to combo shattering breakers all the way up to the brand new x-ray moves which really show off the game as it allows you to see the amount of damage you do with your attack. Another commonplace feature in mortal kombat it the gore filled fatalities and with 4 per character you will not be disappointed, they range from a simple bullet to the head to an explosive end through the means of guided missiles. Another new addition to the game is the "Test your" series where you test your; might, sight, strike and luck in a variety of gore filled mini-games. The last addition before i tell you too much is the return of the krypt which allows you to buy extra items including stage themes all the way up to new fatalities. One other small feature that of you own the game of PS3 you get access to the exclusive Kratos (God of War) character and a stage for absolutely free So the final scores, i mark /10 for each category. Game play: 8/10 - Good solid fighter but felt weak in places Graphics: 7/10 - Nice well suited graphics but just felt a little poor in terms of textures Sound: 9/10 Great sound quality and stage themes that simply suit the game perfectly Creativity and Features: 10/10 - You just cant top the amount of features they have loaded into this game and none feel rushed Overall: 34/40 - Worth buying as it may have just set the new standards for a fighting game I hope you like my review there will be more on the way soon
