I'm not one to post topics, but this Vampire Dragon seems rather useful.

When this Tribute Summoned card is sent from the field to the Graveyard, you can add 1 Level 4 or lower monster from your Deck to your hand.

So I picked up a couple of packs of Extreme Victory the other day, and I pulled a Blue Rose Dragon, which made me wonder what the other Secret Rare cards in the set were. I was looking on Wikia, when I stumbled upon this, and I really don't see what's wrong with it. Yeah, it requires a Tribute, but it's 2400, not to mention if you were to Tribute something like Sangan to Summon it, you could pull off some pretty useful combos.

Whats funny, is this card makes as much sense as Tongue Twister.
Hell, they even have the exact same requirements.

Vampire, much like Tongue, have there own uses. It's just, its hard to make them efficient.

"you can" killed it.

That wouldn't have been so much of a deal if they'd lowered its ATK and made it a LV4, but it's not, so "Tribute Summoned" proceeded to kill it further.

actually the tribute Summoned bit wouldn't be so bad if this card's effect
- Wasn't optional
- Wasn't outclassed by Goblin Zombie in Zombies Decks.

But mainly optional is what kills it...XD

@Star: It is backwards...Dark Hole is one of the very few ways to activate this.

0 DEF.....

Well, it can be brought back to hand by Recurring Nightmare, it's searchable and it isn't that bad of a card. This card would have been amazing if Konami learned which cards to give mandatory effects to (i.e. Vampire Dragon and not Dandy). All around, it's a decent card.

What cards would it miss the timing with that everyone is talking about? Optional effects miss timing?
It misses the timing is you use it for a Synchro Summon, if you tribute it for a Tribute Summon, etc.

Anything where this thing leaving the field is not the last thing to happen makes you miss the chance to use it. This only applies to optional effects.

So in other words, if you use Vampire Dragon and Plaguespreader in a Synchro Summon to get Scrapfiend, you won't be able to get the Level 4, or if you Tribute Vampire Dragon for another Vampire Dragon you won't fetch the Level 4 either?

Yup.

Also, Vampire Dragon is LV5. You'd need another level to go for Stardust.

I thought stuff like "sac this monster for Caius" or something would make it not-work.

As for what would make it work, I figure Dark Hole, Sakuretsu, and destroying by battle would work.

On-topic: Sangan in most decks and Goblin Zombie in Zombie specific decks do it better. As it needs the tribute summon, Book of Life and Il Blud just summon this as a 2400 vanilla.

If you need tribute summons in a Zombie Deck, you're better off using monarchs like Caius or Raiza. If you need a level 6 Zombie Beater, Ryu Kokki does it better. It's mediocre at best, in an era where mediocre is just not good enough.

Thank you for explaining this to me.

I wondered why 'Poison Draw Frog' was so useless in my deck on Tag Force 1.

Is this a ruling that Konami/UDE implemented or is this a logical chain resolution argument? "Being optional = no effect" seems very bad for the game if you ask me.

"When this card is summoned, you can win the game"

USELESS! OPTIONAL EFFECT!

Sad thing is...that's probably true

Logical chain resolution argument.

We're reminded by rulings on a bunch of these optional cards that say "no".

Pretty sure it was caused by the OTK involving Archfiend of Gilfer and Woodland Sprite.
