Quiksilver
OoC Thread here.
The sun lit up Academy Island as the boat pulled into the dock on the far northern side of the island. It was nearly completely round and unique in a tropical island kind of way; a large albeit inactive volcano dominated the southern part of the island, and lush foliage and trees everywhere else. Everywhere, that is, except certain portions; here a path, here a building. A network of pathways snaked their way across the island, hidden beneath the placid trees and blue sky; the connected buildings, most small and blending in with the island, though one in particular stood out; a large, circular building set onto a plateau on the island, with the three domes colored in the primary colors protruding from the forest canopy in stark contrast to the green and brown surroundings. Almost as soon as the boat had docked, a group of students surged forward to exit the boat. Pounding down the whitewashed planks of the dock, they made a beeline for the tree-lined path almost as soon as their feet touched land. Almost a second later, large, counselor-like kids stepped forward and stopped them. "Excuse me, students! Please calm yourselves." A voice spoke louder around the din of the excited students; the kids quieted down as they heard it. A tall, African American girl with tied-back black hair stepped forward, wearing the blue jacket and white skirt of the Obelisk Blue dorm stepped forward. "Thank you." she said in a singsong voice. "I'm Valery Blue. Now, if you'll please, divide youself into groups and us counselors will escort you to the arena, where school orientation. Please, no questions, they will all be answered when we get to the arena." She said, as a flurry of voices raised in question. "Now, get into groups, if you please." The students began dividing and grouping around the various counselors, who were evident in their school uniforms, as well as their subtle air of importance.

A tall and slim boy watched the other students out of the corner of his eye, amused by the lack of direction and confusion. Though, up until this point, this thing had been remarkably slick. Trent Connelly remembered vividly (as it had happened just a second ago) as he viewed the island from the small (in comparison) boat that was slowly but steadily approaching the white-painted docks. Around him, other students, aged 14-17, had been moving restlessly; like Trent, they were anxious to land. Being laid-back and also having originally been against the idea of going to a academy for Duel Monsters, there was something to be said for how the island did this to the man; for the first time after having consigned himself to coming here, he had been excited to be there. Coming out of his reverie, Trent finally decided he might as well join the chaos and fight his way into a group. Languidly, he cast his eye over the crowd, looking for a decent counselor to group with. He supposed it could be any counselor, not the one of his dorm, since they were just going to an orientation speech...and what better way to start off the school year than cozing up to the bigwigs, eh? Laughing slightly, Trent began to approach a tall boy with black hair in a Ra Gold uniform, one of the counselors- hopefully. If he had really wanted to be with bigwigs (he didn't- he knew several people who were hangers-ons, and hated them), he would have joined that Obelisk Blue Valery's group, but that way she walked and talked, even if it was graceful...a bit too intimidating, to say the least. Looking around and seeing a couple of other kids approaching the Ra Gold, he shrugged, confident he had made the right choice, and began to walk towards him at a faster pace.
Master Red
Gabrielle never saw the island before they actually arrived to it, which one might find odd since the island itself is quite large and highly visible one would believe you had to try really hard at not looking at it to miss it. Now there's of course an explanation to this strange occurrence and it's a real simple one too; Gabrielle had fallen asleep about fifteen minutes into the boat ride and hadn't woken up until the unfortunate person to her right, who had gotten to act the part of pillow for the rest of the journey (congratulations you did wonderful, a Grammy shall be sent to your home shortly), woke her up. She had felt a bit embarrassed to having used a complete stranger as a pillow but as he hadn't woken her up she guessed he didn't mind. This was something she wasn't sure was a good thing though, wasn't that a bit... creepy? Gabrielle didn't have a lot of time to contemplate on this however, as she had to leave the boat and step outside. She actually gasped a little after getting off the boat and seeing the island up close for the first time. "I never expected it to be this big!" she thought to herself as she marveled at the size of the, hopefully, sleeping volcano. "It was so much smaller on the pictures" she mumbled to herself, getting an odd look from a girl near her. Not that Gabrielle herself noticed that though. As that girl, Valerie, spoke up she pulled her gaze away from the towering volcano and her thoughts on how one could be certain that a volcano was really sleeping to listen to what she had to say. "How nice of them to send people to guide us to the right places" she mused to herself, mentally, and smiled while she walked over to the guide closest to her. That guide happened to be a tall boy with black hair, wearing a yellow jacket that was similar to her sister's uniform meaning he had to be in the same dorm as her sister, Ra Gold. "Well, I guess a yellow jacket makes sense for a Ra Yellow student" she thought to herself once more, and then started to fiddle with a strand of hair. Shradow
Hiro's trip to Duel Academy was supposed to be uneventful. He should've just sat quietly on board, maybe read a book or taken a nap or something, but unforunately, Hiro was seasick. The problem was, never having been on a boat before, he was unaware of that fact. Not too long after departure, he felt very queasy, and after his first... experience over the rail of the ship, he spent the rest of the trip inside, with a bucket close at hand, although luckily it wasn't necessary. At the dock Hiro made sure he was one of the first off the boat and onto dry, solid land. "F-F-Finaly over..." After a few deep breaths, Hiro looked at the island around him, amazed at the view even from the dock. When the counsleor called for the new arrivals to make groups around them, he decided to go up to black-haired boy wearing the Ra Gold blazer. The Ra Gold counselor didn't seem bad, and Hiro was too nervous to even think of going to that Valery. She was a bit intimidating. Quite a bit, in fact. In fact she outright scared Hiro for some reason. Maybe it was the air of confidence around her that he lacked, or that she had quieted a whole legion of excited new students. He simply stood quietly and hoped to bring as little attention to himself as possible.
Naimo
Kelsie was being quiet as usual. She had long gone past the stage of being involuntarily quiet, but nonetheless, she found the sight of the Duel Academy amazing. It was larger than she had expected, and certainly more impressive. Not to mention that she was eager to know which dorm she would be in. One hand was placed over her shoulder-bag-that-would-soon-be-her-school-bag; she could feel the stiff A4 notebook giving the surface an unusually flat appearance, and her fingertips were just about touching her deck, which sat at the bottom of her bag. It was insane how much she relied on that deck - duelling was her passion, her only chance to have a voice and declare to the world that she could be as independent as anybody else. Anybody who tried to get in her way would be dealt with, as she normally did. Aside from her deck, her fists were her next important weapons; if she had to protect her dignity with a fight, so be it. Unsurprisingly, Kelsie knew nobody as she got off the boat. Now that she was much closer to Duel Academy, it looked even more impressive; and to think that she would be learning within its walls! She listened to Valery, and suddenly imagined herself in that Obelisk Blue uniform; how impressive would she look if she was the one wearing it! Her goal was Obelisk Blue - unsurprising, really, for a high achiever as her. Get into groups? Who can I go with? She saw Gabrielle, and decided to walk over to her. She seemed approachable, if not the most out of everybody ... at the present moment anyway.
Quiksilver
As Gabrielle, Kelsie, Hiro, and Trent drew near the Ra Gold, they began to notice their guide and each other. For his part, the Ra Gold gave a solemn smile as he saw the four approaching; strong green eyes glinted under his mane of shaggy black curls, and his arms unfolded to wave at the four in greeting. Compact and muscular, he radiated strength and vitality. He was flipping Duel Cards between his hands as he did so; the students got a brief look at Exxod, Master of the Guard, before it disappeared in his large palm. His voice suited his figure- it was low and bass. "Hello," he rumbled. "My name is Brian, and I'm one of two Ra Gold counselors." Suddenly, he pulled a small, eyepiece-like device out of his pocket and attached it to his eye. Noting the look of confusion on the kids' face, he explained, "It's a D-Gazer; it's assists with duels, like tracking LP and Duel Points, as well as displaying various card stats. You'll get your own, along with a uniform, after orientation." "Counselor D-Gazers are also outfitted with student identification devices...Aha." Brian had turned to each student in turn, and in the second or two he had spent on each person there had been a subtle beep. "Kelsie Jayne. You're in my dorm aren't you? I won't be your counselor though- that will be the Ra Girls counselors', Ariana over there." Brian stuck a finger over his shoulder, indicating a skinny blonde in a Ra Gold uniform who seemed to chatting energetically with her lieges. "And then...Hiro Blaine, Gabrielle Celeste, and Trent Connelly. You'll be in Slifer Red, won't you? That's cool, that's cool...we're all friends here." With a small smile, Brian looked around and saw that the botched attempts at order were still taking place. Shrugging, Brian turned back to the group and said, "Well, while we're waiting for the rest to sort themselves, why don't we get to know each other? I know Valery told you to wait til orientation, but any questions?"
Naimo
Kelsie was very pleased to hear that she was in Ra Gold, and a wide grin spread on her face - thank goodness she wasn't a Slifer Red! She didn't know how she would have took it if she had been sorted into the lowest dorm! Not that she had anything against them, only Kelsie hated being part of the worst. She was always one to rise above the crowd and force the spotlight onto her. She unzipped her bag and pulled out her notepad and pen; seeing as they were going to know each other, she would need to be prepared to start 'talking'. For now, she had no questions, but she reminded herself to note down any she had as the day went along. Not to mention she would somehow have to grab Brian's attention if she did so. Master Red
"Wha- How do you know my name and what dorm I'm in?" Gabrielle exclaimed, a look of utter shock upon her face. There were some snickers and giggles coming from students around her as she said this, which she couldn't understand why. Either this guy was a psychic or he was a creeper, and she didn't know if she liked either of those alternatives very much. Now, the students around her was obviously snickering as Gabrielle obviously hadn't listened very well to what the counselor had said, as he had explained that their D-Gazers were equipped with a function to display students stats. Gabrielle had now stopped playing with her blonde hair, making Master Red realize that she actually fit the stereotype of a dumb blonde, and was instead crossing her arms over her chest, glaring a bit at Brian. She was actually glad he wasn't in the same dorm as her for the moment being, he could be a total creeper! "I wonder if my sister knows about him, I might have to warn her otherwise" she thought to herself. Naimo
Kelsie couldn't resist, and when she finished scribbling onto her notepad about the D-Gazers, she tapped Gabrielle on the shoulder, and showed it to her. She waited patiently for her to take in what was being written - she had done quite a fair amount, though not enough to claim it was a paragraph - and whilst that happened, Kelsie took in Gabrielle's appearance and any known characteristic traits. She certainly didn't seem very smart; she somewhat reminded Kelsie of her friend Amaya Kurosawa, albeit they were characters in two very different fandoms. Master Red
Her glare and, in her opinion, threatening and accusative stance dropped as she was tapped upon the shoulder. As she turned around she found a girl, about her height with auburn hair and silvery eyes holding out a notepad with text in front of her. Gabrielle let out a small "hm?" and then proceeded to read the almost-paragraph of text there, blushing a bit as she was done and had realized that it was due to this D-Gazer that Brian knew her name and what dorm she was in. If Gabrielle had been more inquisitive in her nature she would probably have asked if this auburn haired girl was certain that this was the case, although if she had in fact been inquisitive she might also have been a better listener and thus not been making a fool of herself in the first place. She looked back at Brian looking a bit defeated and mumbled a sorry. Surprisingly, Gabrielle didn't have any question to ask him, at least not at the moment being and given her rather embarrassing way of kind of accusing him of being a stalker she would probably feel reluctant to ask any anyways. She would like to know how one knew that a volcano was sleeping however, but she didn't want to speak up now and as it had nothing to do with the school itself she decided to keep her mouth shut. "Maybe they snore?" she thought to herself, her green eyes looking up at the large volcano in the distance.
Quiksilver
Brian gave a laugh after the Slifer Red girl -Gabrielle- had been informed of her situation by Kelsie. "That's all right, I've heard worst in my tenure of rule enforcer of Ra Gold dorm." He followed Gabrielle's eyes up to the volcano. "Don't worry, it's inactive." He assured her, in case she didn't know already. He had experience with kids who freaked out when they saw the volcano upon arrival. "It won't erupt anytime soon- or at least, it's not supposed to." A strange expression crossed his face when he said this, but it disappeared so quickly the students thought they had imagined it. "Anyways, I was wondering about your guy's decks? Maybe I could give some advice on your decks, and you for mine? Things seem to be quieting down," he continued, peering around again. "But there is supposed to be six people in each group, so we might have to wait a bit for two more people." He looked around the group; there were general nods of assent, as least as far as Brian could make out. "Great! Personally, I run a Sphinx deck- Hieracosphinx, Guardian Sphinx, and those guys. My main guy is Exodd, Master of the Guard." He whipped a card out of his sleeve, and showed the Effect Monster card glimpsed before. "So, how 'bout you guys?"

Trent had opened his mouth to explain to that one girl about the D-Gazers when Kelsie beat him to the punch. Instead, he settled on a smile and patted the girl- didn't her name start with a G?- on the shoulder. "Don't worry, it's not the worst thing you could have said. But it was close." He chuckled slightly. Then he turned and listened to Brian talk about the volcano and the deck; he shrugged when Brian asked them about their decks. "Well, my deck is based around Psychic and RFG," He said, knowing the duelists around him would catch on to his lingo. He unconsciously felt his back jean pocket, where his deck was currently placed. "I swarm the deck with Synchro monsters, pretty much." Trent shrugged again, then looked around to see what people would say.
Shradow
Hiro didn't have any questions, and was a bit nervous about introducing himself, but he knew he would have to if he wanted any friends. A couple had already said something about themselves and were waiting on someone else. "H-Hi. Like Brian s-said, I-I-I'm Hiro and I'll, um, I-I'll be in the S-Slifer Red dorm." He pulled out his deck box, and opening it, pulled out his favorite cards. "M-My deck focuses a-around the Rag-Raging Flame Sprite. It's my, yeah, my f-favorite card. I, uh, p-power them up in-n-n various w-ways. I h-have other car-cards, too, th-though." He sighed after he finished talking. I think that went well. I hope they could hear past my stuttering. OoC: BTW, what's RFG?
Master Red
"Oh thank god, he isn't angry with me" Gabrielle thought to herself as Brian said it was okay, she wasn't sure how to take the volcano thing though. What did he mean not supposed to!? Was it supposed to go off in a couple of years or something? Gabrielle didn't like the thought of that at all and even shivered a bit as she did. "I hope nobody wakes it" she mumbled to herself, shooting another glance at the volcano. She jumped a bit as someone suddenly patted her shoulder, smiling at first as he said it wasn't the worst thing she could have said but then scowled at him as he added that it was close. She pouted a bit at this and whipped her head around quickly to look at Brian again, and listened with interest as people were talking about their decks. One boy seemed quite flustered about the talking as he was studdering a lot. The boy beside her, the one that had been a bit rude, talked casually about his deck and then shrugged as if it was nothing special. As nobody else seemed to speak up she decided to go ahead, she probably would have to anyways. "I'm Gabrielle and I use an Angel Deck," she started and then fell silent for a while. "I.. don't know what else to say..." she added, a bit more quiet and let out a sound that was some kind of mixture of an uncertain laugh and a sigh. Naimo
Kelsie flipped over the page and wrote down, Hello, my name's Kelsie Jayne, and I use a Warrior-themed deck that mainly focuses on Synchros. Kelsie was careful not to give too much away; these people were going to be her opponents, after all, regardless of how friendly she would become with them. You might have noticed I haven't spoken a word; that's because I was mute from birth. I guess that's the main thing you need to know about me. P.S. pass this round when you're done reading. She knew she didn't necessarily have to add the P.S., but some people - not naming any names, save for a quick stare at Gabrielle - could be just a bit too ... daft to not realise that they would need to pass it round, otherwise Kelsie would have to write an individual note for every person. Kelsie then handed it to Gabrielle, and waited for the notepad to go back full circle to her hands.
Master Red
Gabrielle was handed the notepad by Kelsie abd read through the whole thing. She gasped a bit and then looked at Kelsie as if she couldn't believe what she had read. "Wait.. so you really can't talk?" She asked, in a gentle way though so it would most likely not be taken as an insult. "I guess that must be kind of hard for you..." she mumbled and then joinked the pen out of her hand and scribbled on the note book and showed it to her, making sure that she could read it before handing it over to a random NPC that nobody cares enough about to be given a proper introduction. The part she had written was in a fine slightly italicized text and said: "I can talk but if you'd like I can communicate with you through the note book too if you'd like. I like sending notes anyways...". She made sure to actually cover that text up again by scribbling over it before handing it to the earlier mentioned NPC that nobody cares about. Naimo
Kelsie noticed that Gabrielle had written something down, and intercepted; she took her book back to see what the other girl had written. Unfortunately, for the poor girl, she was yet to learn that Kelsie had a fiery disposition, and it didn't take long for the mute girl's face to turn a vivid red of anger. Her free hand curled into a white fist, and she suddenly threw the notebook aside. Without even thinking, she took one step forward and smashed her fist at whatever part of Gabrielle she could reach - in this case, her nose - but unlike normal, when she would have pounded onto her opponent immediately after the opening blow, she halted, and then went to get her notebook. Whilst Kelsie did appear calm, her hand was violently shaking from anger as she jabbed a lengthy, slightly bloody sentence onto the page for everyone to see. What do you f***ing take me for, an idiot?! I said I was mute, not deaf. You better f***ing learn from this. She was still too angry from what she took as an insult, and even holding onto the notebook was a problem for her. Giving up entirely, Kelsie threw it onto the floor and stood back from the group. Her chest was still heaving with anger, her face still red, and her fists still curled; she shot a warning glare at everybody, particularly at Gabrielle; she couldn't care less if she was going to be reprimanded, she felt insulted, and anybody who insulted her had to pay. Shradow
Hiro noticed, instead of saying anything, that who Brian had identified as Kelsie passed around a notepad. Hiro didn't get to read it yet, but he knew what it meant. Poor girl, she's mute... When it got passed to Gabrielle she wrote something on it, and when Kelsie got it back, for some reason she was infuriated enough to punch her in the face. She was really angry, and her fist was clenched so tightly her knuckles were white. She stepped back, but Hiro was going to make sure nothing else happened, at his own risk. "N-N-N-Now w-wait, I-I'm-I'm s-s-sure that we c-c-c-can solve this prob-problem without any mo-m-more viol-l-l-lence. G-G-Gabr-r-rielle d-d-didn't mean an-anything by it, r-r-right?" Hiro looked hopingly to Brian, signaling him with his expression to step in.
Master Red
Gabrielle actually toppled over and fell down on the ground from the blow to her nose, blood flowing out of it. Tears were welling up in her eyes and as she caught herself she sobbed as she covered her nose. Coughing as she swallowed some of the blood from her nose, which only turned her sobs even more heart shattering. Even though Kelsie had been holding up the text saying she wasn't deaf Gabrielle hadn't caught this as she had been falling over, teary eyed and had blood flowing from her nose. Not that she needed to see it though, she might not be very clever but she did know that mute and deaf were NOT the same thing. "Why would she hit me? I was only trying to be nice" she pondered to herself, not knowing how Kelsie could possibly have taken what she did as anything but a nice gesture. She heard that studdeing boy... Hiro, talk, but she didn't really make out any of it. There was a minor pounding in her head as the blood rushed out of her nose, staining her face and her dress as well as the ground beneath her, and with her sobs and coughs it didn't make it easier either. Quiksilver
Luckily, Brian responded quickly after the incident. He barrelled forward, creating a barrier between Kelsie and Gabrielle. "Stop it, right now!" He growled, looking at Kelsie. "What happened?" His eyes catching on the paper, he bent over to seize it and looked at it's contents; in a second, he had realized what did happen, and stood back up. His eyes were clenched shut as he tried to diffuse this dilemma. "All right." Brian said after a long pause. "Kelsie, violence is never the answer. I know what you're dealing with is tough, but if anyone makes a comment about it, you go to a teacher or counselor; you most certainly don't punch them. And you, Gabrielle, next time, be more...sensitive about these things." He glared at both girls for a second, waiting for their sounds of affirmation, then he turned to Gabrielle. He produced a tissue from nowhere and gave it to Gabrielle. "Do you need to go to the nurse, Gabrielle? Is it serious?"
Naimo
Kelsie looked defeated as she too shut her eyes, trying to calm down too. She picked up her notebook, and elaborated. Sorry ... only I've taken this kind of abuse before - intentionally or not - where there have been no teachers or counselors, and I'm used to fighting. They normally don't dare be so stupid again anyway after that. Gabrielle, I'm so sorry She wanted to add something, but refrained from doing so. are you alright? Do you need to see the nurse?
Shradow
OoC: Holy crap, Brian has magical tissues. o.O Hiro was a bit shaken by the whole experience, even though he had almost naught to do with it. Kelsie Jayne... I'm glad she's not in my dorm. She scares me. Hopefully there aren't too many more people that do, as well. He looked worriedly at Gabrielle. I sure hope she'll be okay after this... Two more people were still needed to join their little group according to Brian, and Hiro hoped their arrival, whoever they would be, would come swiftly. There needed to be some new faces to switch the mood and change the subject.
Master Red
Gabrielle sniffled a bit as she held the tissue she had received from Brian tightly pressed against her nose. The tissue was growing redder quite quickly, staining her hands a bit. She didn't care though, she already had blood stains on her dress and face stained hands was nothing she worried about at the moment and besides, the tissues would help to stop the bleeding. "I'll be fine" she mumbled, hick-uping a little from her sobs, and then got to her feet. She took another tissue and pressed it against her nose as the old one had become too bloody to help. She didn't throw the old one on the ground though, that was littering and littering made the earth spirits sad. Gabrielle hadn't caught what Kelsie wrote as she didn't look at her, she was angry with her, yes, but mostly she was saddened and scared. "I'm glad I'm not in her dorm" she thought to herself as she got back into the group, though she chose to stand as far away from where Kelsie was standing as possible, she didn't want to have anything to do with that girl. At least not right now.
