Yes, but now Alpha has the element of surprise. Desna has no idea what exactly Exceed Monsters do. He just got lucky, dodging that bullet.
However, if Merciful is using the anime effect of Tera-Byte, meaning that Tera-Byte can only be destroyed in battle by a Numbers Exceed Monster, Desna is screwed.

I'd say that if a card that is released in the TCG/OCG that has a different effect than the anime, we should follow the actual real-life effect (unless its real-life effect is utterly useless). BUT...I'm not a co-host, so unless someone approves of this, it's kinda meaningless...

I like giving numbers that anime effect because it just means you can't kill it, you can still tribute it, or return it to the hand/deck, or the very easy remove from play; I feel it makes things a little more interesting.
I hope that I get to play it like I had dueled the guy and he lost that way I can bring out more monsters and set the stage.

But timing doesn't matter.
If I activate Pot of Avarice, I have to select the five monsters first. If my opponent activate D.D. Crow to remove one of those monsters, then Pot of Avarice's effect is null, since one of the targets goes away, preventing me from using the effect properly.
It's not about timing, it's about what's allowed to activate. You already selected a target, and the effect won't work properly if the target disappears.
As Co-Host, I'm asking you to change your post to follow the rules.

When you targeted the first monster Densa activated his effect and a chain was made, first the monster was removed then the target was gone so the effect fizzled, the field did change so if you were attacking you would choose a new target but because it was for a card effect the chain doesn't let you repeat the move or choose a new target.
