Anbu-of-Sand
So, a good amount of my friends play League of Legends. I find it interesting how it's actually a Tower Defense-like game, but I want to know a few questions before downloading it and trying it out. Reason why is, I don't want to install, not like the game, then just uninstall the game and waste my time. Anyways, here are the questions: Questions - Is League of Legends an easy game to get use too if your new to these types of games? (Knowing when to press the right shortcuts, when to move, etc. etc.) - Is it (fairly) easy to understand this whole Rune, Items, Masteries, and whatnot? Like what Masteries go best with what, etc. etc. - Does the in-game Tutorial (if any is given) help? - I've noticed on the League of Legends Wikia, Champions would have a 'Difficulty' of 30-90 and whatnot, I know the name should be self explanatory, but what does this mean in-game? - Is it easy to get Influence Points to get certain Champions of a certain Level (6000 Influence Points for example, easy to get?) - Should I just focus on one Champion at a time when it comes to getting Runes, Items, Masteries, etc.? Or work on all of them at the same time? - Is there an option to not play the game on full screen, where you can still see the Taskbar? - What on average, is the amount of time playing something like Team Fight, and how long can a game / match go for? More questions may be added overtime, and thank you in advance for answering any questions if you do.

fenrir
Thankfully for you I'm the only active YCMer that plays League. Pikachu does but he's mia atm. So I'll answer your questions. 1. Not really. It takes a while to get used to it unless you've played DotA prior. Being familiar with strategy games will honestly not help you. The only real thing that's similar is how you control the map and the camera angle. Besides that it's a completely different experience. It is majorly fun though, so eventually you'll get used to it. 2. Yes, it's pretty simple. They adjust your stats, buy the ones appropriate for the champion(s) you play. 3. It helps if you're new, yes. 4. It mean's nothing in game. It's just a suggestion for newbies on who to try out to get used to the game. 5. Hooo boy. You get an average of 100 IP per match. 200 or so if it's a win of the day. In all honesty it is really not that easy to get 6k. It's possible and I've done it several, several times, but it's a grind. One of the nastier points of this game. :/ 7. Well my recommendation would be to find a type of champion you particularly like, DPS, Mage, Tank, Support, etc. Once you find a group you like, buy runes that would fit those characters. If you like to mix it up, it's your choice on when to buy runes then. It doesn't hurt to buy individual runes but there are certain runes (Mana per level glyphs for example) that are a mainstay that every player should have. 8. Yup. 9. "Team fight"? A team fight is when both teams participate in a battle. Lasts for a few seconds to a few minutes. A game on Summoner's Rift will be an average of 45 minutes. A game on Twisted Treelines is typically less. LoL is a good game but you can't really judge it in the beginning. It takes a bit to get into. :/ I'll give you some more tips though. (pretty much a vet at this game.) Don't worry about IP all too much in the beginning, just try out champions and see which ones you like. Only buy runes after you've hit 20 (in your summoner profile), and buy tier three ones. For quintessences if you're low on IP, buy tier 2 ones. You only lose a little bit in stat gain, like hardly anything. Remember, it's a TEAM game. Don't get greedy, don't blame others, and don't pick a DPS and insta-lock at the start of a game. Dick moves.
-Griffin
I started about a week ago, so feel like I'm in a position to help. - Is League of Legends an easy game to get use too if your new to these types of games? (Knowing when to press the right shortcuts, when to move, etc. etc.) The closest thing I'd played was Age of Empires, and was doing fine by the second game I played. No real issue here, I'd say. It won't be easy to get to high-ranked play, but the match-making system should leave you playing against people that are fine, even if you're new. That, and you can play bot-matches for easy practice - Is it (fairly) easy to understand this whole Rune, Items, Masteries, and whatnot? Like what Masteries go best with what, etc. etc. I'd say yes, but don't be afraid to find a guide for these things! I find that it really helps to use a guide for your first two games, then forget about the guide and use the basic experience you've got to develop your own style. Also, don't get any runes until level 20, because you have to replace them all at level 20 anyway @_@ that's a stupid part, IMO. - Does the in-game Tutorial (if any is given) help? There is one. It generally only covers the basics like controls, but is good at what it does. - I've noticed on the League of Legends Wikia, Champions would have a 'Difficulty' of 30-90 and whatnot, I know the name should be self explanatory, but what does this mean in-game? How hard it is to be good with them. For example, melee champs with lower health are really easy to die with if you aren't careful, so they're rated as a higher difficulty. A ranged character with non-terrible HP, like Ashe, is pretty easy to play decently with straight away, so gets a lower difficulty. - Is it easy to get Influence Points to get certain Champions of a certain Level (6000 Influence Points for example, easy to get?) 6300 for the most expensive champs can take a day or two of playing, but considering that each game can be very different, even with the same character, I wouldn't say that gets repetitive, (and you get the 10 weekly free-to-play champs), so it doesn't feel like much grind. I'm currently sitting on about 6000 spare IP, iirc. - Should I just focus on one Champion at a time when it comes to getting Runes, Items, Masteries, etc.? Or work on all of them at the same time? With Masteries, you can return all your spent points and re-spend them even during champ selection, and your points are shared between champs, so no need to focus them on one champ. Items are brought during a match, and lost afterwards, so no need to 'focus' them, you can get the best items in your first game, no problems! As far as runes go... a full set of good runes can cost over 20,000 IP, I've heard, so you might want to go for ones that are pretty decent on /every/ champ, rather than working on individual champs, until you feel you've got spare IP. - Is there an option to not play the game on full screen, where you can still see the Taskbar? There's a full screen option?... Well, yes, then, I always use that one xP - What on average, is the amount of time playing something like Team Fight, and how long can a game / match go for? I find games go for 30-50 mins, generally (on the 5v5 map, which is the main one most people play). Hope that helps. I've personally found the game fun. Poc
Ive been playing for a couple of months now - Is League of Legends an easy game to get use too if your new to these types of games? (Knowing when to press the right shortcuts, when to move, etc. etc.) LoL is a dota clone, one of the original developers from dota is the lead designer of LoL, That being said, it takes a bit to get the motion of the game down, but thats true for any multiplayer game. a bit of practice and its very easy to play - Is it (fairly) easy to understand this whole Rune, Items, Masteries, and whatnot? Like what Masteries go best with what, etc. etc. Runes and masteries basically add another level of strategy to the game, picking what runes and masteries go best with what champion makes you more powerful in game, its pretty straightforward though. - Does the in-game Tutorial (if any is given) help? If this is your first dota like game, playing the tutorial is highly recommended, once you get the feel for the game, play some bot coop vs ai matches, they teach you the basics. - I've noticed on the League of Legends Wikia, Champions would have a 'Difficulty' of 30-90 and whatnot, I know the name should be self explanatory, but what does this mean in-game? Different champions play differently, some champions you can mash there abilities and score multikills all game, others take a bit more strategy and planning, the more difficult the champion is the more complex play style. Generally, a champ with more skill shot like abilities are rated as a higher difficulty because you actually have to aim there attacks. Dont be intimidated by a high difficulty champion though, continuous practice with your champion of choice just makes you better at playing them - Is it easy to get Influence Points to get certain Champions of a certain Level (6000 Influence Points for example, easy to get?) It can be a real grind because the higher your summoner level the less IP you gain, if you save your IP for a week and play 3-4 games a day you could save enough for a 6300 champion. You can also buy IP boosts in the store. - Should I just focus on one Champion at a time when it comes to getting Runes, Items, Masteries, etc.? Or work on all of them at the same time? Every week theres a new free champion rotation, pick one that interests you and play a few games with it, if you like that champion then consider buying him/her at the end of the week. after a few games try a different champion and do the same process, eventually you'll find a champion who you like, buy that champion then focus on getting the right runes and stuff. Oh, and check out solomid.net they have plenty of champion guides by top players - Is there an option to not play the game on full screen, where you can still see the Taskbar? Not 100% sure on this but my gut says most likely, I never really played around with the video settings. - What on average, is the amount of time playing something like Team Fight, and how long can a game / match go for? A 5v5 game usually lasts 20--40 minutes, a 3v3 game lasts about 15-30 min. Theres other game types people play in custom games with different rules, there usually short and quick games. any other questions just ask away. Poc
Nothing happened to MF, its just that riot decided to make a ranged carry with insane burst and maneuverability in attempt to shift the meta game, also, she has stealth.
That was rhetorical. It's just when MF was released, people were complaining because she was a no-skill carry. Vayne has pretty much the same reaction. Except worse apparently. And isn't the stealth just during Ult when using tumble? Doesn't sound thaaaaaat bad. :/ That being said I haven't seen her in action. But typically when a new character is introduced people b**** and rage because they don't know how to counter them yet. >__>
Poc
Yea, the stealth is only when she ults, but riot said they wanted to to away with stealth completely, this doesn't help there cause. Still, shes a squishy ranged carry, hard CC will counter her pretty easily. I just want to b**** about riot because patch days put me in that mood =/
fenrir
Yup. No matter what happens Riot has shitty patch days. Oh god that reminds me of Kog's release week. >__< EDIT: Also, tanky DPS. :/
