Hiya. I was skimming through and didn't see any threads for Soul Calibur which just happens to be my favorite video game.

Feel Free to discuss anything Soul Calibur related Eg. who are your favorite characters? Which one is your favorite? who is the coolest person you ever made in Soul Calibur 4 and describe!

My personal favs are probably Raphael and Cervantes, although I really like The Apprentice too. I've used Raphael since the first time I played Soul Calibur, up to SC4, so I'm fairly decent with him (even though the fights always end up being me playing Raphael, and my friend playing Mitzurugi...)

I'm best with Talim, personally. I tend to do best with the sort of attacker that constantly pressures the opponent (Patchouli, Yukari, Kula Diamond...). I'm also quite good with Amy and the Alexandra sisters.

Talim/Yun-seong shipping makes me bash my head against the wall. >_> Seong Mi-na is tolerable with Yun-seong, but she's better off with Sophitia. [:< The dao moron stays single!

I once made an entire story out of SCIV's character creation mode, involving dimensional travel, seven-coloured knights, three ambitious nations, rival Lovecraftian cults, and lots and lots and lots of gay people. The overall tone was similar to The Slayers, except with a lot more gayngst and a three-girl, all-unrequited love triangle that I don't know how to resolve driving the plot. I'd make a proper story out of it, but it would probably wind up being 18+ due to the way SCIV works as a game and I really, really, really suck at writing that. So as it is, it stays to myself.

I freaking beast with pretty much every character except Ivy, Rock, and Astaroth, my best character would be Sigfried though. Thing is I loved to use Necrid in SC2 and I'm pissed that he was removed in 3 and 4. He will hopefully be playable in a future Soul Calibur, along with Sophitia's husband, Rothion who I hope will have a spear and shield like a Spartan, Lord Geo Dampierre, and Girardot Argezas.

guest characters bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuh. The SCIV ones are horribly balanced -- Yoda is a nightmare, the Apprentice alternates between broken and useless, and Vader is unremarkable. Link is the only good SCII one -- and he has faaaar too slow setup time and his projectiles were so inaccurate as to be useless. I really did try and use Link, too. Unfortunately, he lost out to anyone small and fast, and he's the best guest character; Heihachi is the equivalent of Meiling in Hisoutensoku and Spawn is completely unremarkable.

The trouble with Astaroth is that his moves either have nowhere near enough range, leave him wide open, or both. If his enemy can control the fight's distance, he will lose.

Hmmm...
I main Maxi and Taki. From this topic, it seems rather rare to find players of either.

Also meant I hate trouble while the Internet was filled with Kilik spammers.
Are they still as prominent?

I think so. Every time I try to play I get at least 4 Kilik people

Alright, I know I'm bringing this back from the dead but if anyone has a problem with it I will lock it immediately. It just seemed appropriate with the fifth one coming out and I didn't see a new one. (once again if I am wrong tell me (politely) and I will lock this). So who's excited for #5

I'm disappointed that Rothion died after SCIV and that Cassie and Sophitia will not be in this game. I am insanely happy to see that their family will again dominate the game. Patroklos is going to be the protagonist and his sister Pyrrha will also be playable. Zwei looks like he would be pretty cool. Leixia is probably gonna be an exact clone of her mom. Natsu will probably be a clone of Taki. Ivy, Sigfried and Mitsurugi are returning, Sigfried at 40, Mitsurugi at 46 and Ivy at 32 because she stopped aging, but I think they were just looking for an excuse to keep her as Ms. Fanservice. Looks promising and I hope that some of the classic characters return or get succeeded. I seriously still want Lord Geo Dampierre and Necrid to return.

If you know me when it comes to fighting games I love the competitive line up
soul caliber is just not one of those competitive games

a game based on reaction for reversals and your skill with the sliding kick or accurate use of your range
it may seem like a good number of factors to fit into the catagory of competitive gaming
but a true fighting gamer would say other wise

1. your reversals are based merely on block up or down and ->A then setting your self up for your combo after knock down depending on your character
2. sliding kick is your only distance close in because you cant frekin do jump-ins and the sluggish in game running is just not gonna work against any character.
3. there is no button input skill involved. no quarter circles, z motions, speed cancels, everything is pretty much command keys and canceling is made by pressing another button to go back to neutral stance with horrible cool down, meaning reversals are nothing once you miss with a long animation move which is almost anything
4. range is big ass deal because the only way to get close is move to the side and do a sliding kick which may OR MAY NOT make contact if the distance is long enough a 2 year old could predict that down block and start up a reversal with pretty much anything knowing sliding kicks have bad cool down is whiffed

I use kilik and yeah yeah I know load of s***
but he is one of the only characters with QCF and QCB (the one where he stick out his pole in front of him or the one where he dows the splits) moves and with that the priority and range on those moves set you up for any combo with out giving the opponent and chance to reversal at all

this give me an automatic flawless vistory unless you're a master at block + close distance with run + block again + close distance with run + block hop + hop juggle move
which almost no casual player knows how to do

I see what your saying about it being kinda simple if you know the best moves but for a non-hardcore player like myself I enjoy playing it in my free time.

your going to call me dumb but when you just and get up really fast after getting knocked down, is that controllable or random. If it is controllable how do you do it?
some characters are better of staying on the ground longer
example
voldo, kilik, possibly yoshimitsu

1. voldo can cancel roll in the a back bridge stance and you can strike forward from that stance with good distance and follow up with the wheel attack
2. for kilik qcb moves from the ground help you get up and counter the opponent especially if he tries to vertical slash you its an easy reaction counter and if he tries to sweep or slide kick you you can vertical slam on reaction but it is much more difficult, if you don't have the quick reaction you'll just fall over again
3. yoshimitsu with a lot of skill can meditate-teleport from the ground, but it has horrible start up time so button mashers will actually have an edge on you.

simply put with certain characters you dont need to stand up quicker, just smarter, which is why high level gamers find it easy to play, when 90% of the playable characters are open to very easy counters and even more so when they are somehow unskilled with these characters and doing rush A button tactics
