Supreme Gamesmaster
DOWNLOAD LINK GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO So I made another video game. This one is rather more... creative... than the last.
Story-wise, Konata Izumi and a bunch of OG characters go to this cool university run by Yukari Yakumo, where they learn stuff, get undergraduate educations, and save the multiverse via danmaku on the side. Then an incident happens, and the characters have to solve it. You wouldn't know that by playing the game, though -- not only is there no plot whatsoever outside the graphics (and sometimes not even the graphics), none of the main plot is revealed in the demo anyway. You see why I need CBTers after Stage 4.

Engage to Jabberwocky was often called "Zelda meets Touhou," and while it was a cool game by any standards, it was not Zelda meets Touhou. Thus, I decided to actually make Zelda meets Touhou, and wound up making Etrian Odyssey meets Touhou (rather than Touhou meets Etrian Odyssey, which is called Labyrinth of Touhou and is the best doujinshi I've ever heard of). You navigate various rooms, which are all logically connected through doors (black arrows) or stairs (flashing arrows). Stairs take you to other floors, which allow for some cool spacial tricks I screwed around with in Stage 4. The dungeons themselves are very small, so the dungeon-crawling aspect wouldn't take long at all if I gave you a map. Guess what I didn't do. You have to beat enemies in each room before the doors and/or stairs appear. Each wave takes somewhere between five and thirty seconds, barring a few exceptions. It doesn't take long, but all the enemies fire a crapload of bullets, and dungeon-crawling can while down your lives pretty quickly. Therefore, every time you collect two hundred point cards, you can exchange them for a life (or two bombs if you're feeling cocky). There are also bombs, screen-clearing attacks unleashed from a cache by pressing X; counterbombs, extremely powerful attacks created by bombing while you're getting hit; and special abilities, activated by pressing C while you have 50 or more power (unless you're Hayate, who's weird). Power is explained on the download page and in the (outdated) readme. If you see coloured magic circles that are standing still, run into them! They're switches. If you see coloured magic circles that are spinning, they're barriers. Throw the appropriate switch to destroy them and advance. If you see multicoloured magic circles, run into them! They're treasure chests that give you fifty points and bomb. There are three in the demo alone; try and find them all...
The controls are very simple. Arrow keys move the character, hold Z to shoot, X to bomb, C for special abilities. Press CTRL while the doors and stairs are available to bring up the pause menu, which will let you save and trade your points for a life/bombs. The game is very easy to figure out, I think; fifteen minutes of experimenting should tell you everything you need to know. Please note that my games tend to be very difficult, and this one is no exception. You have been warned. Some screenshots to help give you an idea of what you're up against. The images are bitmaps taken while I was playing, but they should be fairly accurate for the bosses. I assure you that the stages are much harder in actual gameplay, don't worry. [:< May 9, 2011 Update: v0.22 released! This is a big update; the pause menu got a huge overhaul, I fixed a crapload of bugs, added Stage Select mode, fixed up the save screen, added a relay point in Stage 4, and replaced HP bar for bosses with something mildly less hideous (that hole is for where a boss picture will go). So very excited about this. v0.23 will be pretty tiny, though; it was mainly separated so the bugs in v0.22 can be found/verified/eliminated before I get to work adding a crapload more common data. Version 0.22 is the current open beta. If you want to try closed beta when I finish off the engine fixes, post here and say so. Also, anyone who can help out with graphics would be much appreciated. Current closed beta list: >Rarity With all due respect, ~Supreme Gamesmaster Yddisac DOWNLOAD LINK AGAIN GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO
Supreme Gamesmaster
I see I met with a warm reception >_> I'll bump once, this time with version 0.21, but I won't bother maintaining the thread w/o replies because, well, no one's reading it. >_>
fenrir
My only complaint is that the menu text is painful to read. I have to go soon so I couldn't spot much but it's pretty fun. If you want I can help you beta it? xD I'll play some more when I get back, try all the characters and what not.

Supreme Gamesmaster
@Rarity: Which menu, Danmakufu or main-game? (Both. >_>) I'll PM you once I get to closed beta. @Bless: Screenshots are awkward on this comp, but I'll try and draw some up.
Poc
Bullet hell games aren't my thing this this is looking pretty good so far. Are you going to release an English translation for all the moon speak?
Supreme Gamesmaster
What moon speak? Danmakufu is a Japanese client, and insofar as I know, there's no English patch for it. You really don't need one, though; just go to Stage and start playing. Everything I provided is in English. I'm uploading an Imageshack album of twenty screenshots as we speak; they're slowing my connection to hilariously low speeds, and their combined size is almost as big as the game files, redundant SFX and all. ._. EDIT: Link to screenshots added to main page.
fenrir
The Danmakufu menu is painful to read, yeah. The text is sort of squished together.
DSS
why are you calling it a Dungeon crawler if its a bullet hell game? anyway it seems ok and all but i don't like getting seizures from all the flashy colors so i'm gonna pass xD. Good luck on making more and more versions o3o

Supreme Gamesmaster
Yes, I know, bumping. But the thread isn't that old. ...is it? ._. v0.22 released! VERY EXCITED because the game is much prettier and more functional now. Just look at the update list on the download page and you'll see why I'm so happy. The engine is ~ Screenshots will be added [s]soon[/s] when I can be bothered to add them. Please download if you liked the original. *v*
