I'm really a Cancer (I'm not Gemini, screw this fake new one.) and I never really believed any of this crap. Although Karkat's symbol is also Cancer, and I do think my personality fits with his rather well. Maybe it's just a coincidence.

It's not fake. The sun does legitimately pass through the constellation of Ophiuchus on the dates indicated.

<-- Lives in the western hemisphere, constellations remain unchanged for me.

What the Hell does that have to do with anything? No constellations have "changed" (though even if they had, it wouldn't be for only one hemisphere, which has to be one of the dumbest things I've read in a while). The 13th constellation, Ophiuchus, that the Sun passes through (from the perspective us on Earth) has never been included in "traditional Astrology" calculations or whatever you want to call them.

I know most YCMers don't possess a basic knowledge of Astronomy, but as the Earth orbits around the Sun, the "background" the Sun is "in" changes - hence the different times of the year for different star signs. However, the Sun isn't in a fixed location. It to has an orbit around the Milky Way Galaxy. Despite being incredibly slow, the "position" of the Sun has changed within the past 2000 years, for example. So, aside from omitting the 13th constellation, the times of year are now out-of-whack as well as the Sun's location in the galaxy has changed. I haven't read much on the gravitational influence of the moon mentioned in the article, but it too could be a factor.

So it doesn't matter what damn hemisphere you're in, as the Earth rotates every 24 hours on an almost north-south axis. Last time I checked, you can see the sun in either the eastern or the western hemisphere, assuming of course it's daytime. If you can "see" the sun, you can "see" the constellation it appears in front of, and thus you can see it in front of Ophiuchus at the right time of year.

Hemispheral locations only matter on an north-south basis, not an east-west basis. Say you live on the equator and you look straight up, and it's night time 24 hours a day, so you can always see the stars. Anything you can't see right now, you will be able to see in 12 hours, as the Earth will have rotated on its axis. Of course, there will be some things you aren't far enough north or south to see, but Ophiuchus isn't one of them because, as I've already stated, the Sun passes in front of Ophiuchus, and you can see the Sun everyday.

That's only for those born during and after this year, so hush.
[/quote]

No, it's not. The Sun has always passed through Ophiuchus, but starting with the ancient Babylonians, it has been omitted by Astrologers from their calculations for reasons unknown.

Whatever the reason, it's not relevant anyway, as Astrology is a lie. The position of the Sun in relation to the constellations behind it when you are born has no effect on your personality, life or fate in anyway. It is, in a word, bullsh*t.

Would it have been easier to say that "My zodiac sign hasnt changed"? (I follow the Seasonal Zodiac anyway; which according to the article Pika showed, says that the Seasonal Zodiac remains unchanged).

Haha, the Tropical Zodiac. Astrology's way of explaining the lie that it is.

Indeed, it would have been easier for you to say "I follow the farcical system that crack-pot Astrologists do".

Good for a nice perky smile now and then, I don't believe it but as long as people are just using it to be optimistic and not completely misled. No reason to have a crack at it.

If you want to continue following the tropical/season-based horoscope like many astrologers do, then follow that one. Ophiuchus isn't "new", there have been debates for years to add it because if you go by constellations, it's a legitimate sign. Yes it's supposed to be there, really. But just now some guy decided to cause a big news bang, before that it wasn't added because having 12 signs is more convenient since 12 can be divised by 3 and 4. So you can nicely divide them up between seasons, elements and other stuff.:3 Like Pisces, Cancer and Scorpion being water signs.

Meh, in some newspapers and websites I looked, people were still following the seasonal astrology.=/ And it's not like it's going to keep me from sleeping.
