Halo: Circumstance ({[IC/Accepting/Started]})

Jacob cursed loudly as Chris exited the room. He was about to follow him when the other Spartans began talking again. He paused, then turned to face them. Shut the heck up, he told Chris in his mind. I'll do what I want with the stupid wall. To prove a point, he slammed his fist into the wall again, in the same spot, and increased the dent. After hearing Chris's question at the end, he chuckled. It started small, then grew large and loud. Not caring what the others thought, he laughed. "Have you not heard me say anything so far?!" he asked hysterically. "I've got plenty of objections...I don't care how much my plan sucks and yours' all doesn't." He paused, and took a deep breath. "It's the thruster packs," he told them. "I...I just can't stand those things; they're way too volatile for my taste. But, honestly, it's the best plan I've heard so far."

"Hmm...well, you could just push off from the hull of the Warhawk. No thrusters, but no way of correcting a flaw in trajectory. It's sort of a one shot deal."

Chris casually strolled over to the dent in the wall and scratched at it aimlessly.

"I'm sure, however, you would prefer the thrusters, despite their untrustworthy-ness."

Chris placed his hand on his chin, a tell-tale sign of deep thought.

"Well...if the theories in my plan are correct, I don't think we would need more then a maximum two Spartans. After all, why waste spartans on this if we can use space to do our bidding."

"You know, since we're going to destroy the ship anyway and it's already in orbit around Circumstance, we could just attach the Elephants to the outside of the ship with some kind of electromagnets and then give it a good shove with some large explosive on the side facing away from the planet to get into the planet's gravitational area. Once we clear the atmosphere and go down far enough to where the impact would be survivable, we detach the Elephants and drop. Even if there are Covenant forces on Vesuvius, there is no chance they would survive that landing. Pretty much the original plan, if there are any covenants in there with Banshees or something to fly in, we could just shoot them down with our own weapons or one of the turrets mounted the Elephant."

Eddy stood with a smirk on his face as the two bickered. As Nathan spoke up, however, Eddy gave him his full attention. After drawing breath, Eddy said, "That's not actually a bad idea, at least in theory. The big problem is the fact that we have nothing to get the Elephants moving, other than the MAC, and while I'm not worried about the Elephants suffering, the ODESA would leave it untouched, I'm more worried about what kind of state we'd be left in afterwards. If our organs don't rupture from that amount of force and our suits don't malfunction terribly from the amount of magnetic force they use, I'm pretty sure the final impact would leave us... a little woozy. Though that's not to say the plan isn't good, same goes with you Jacob, it's just not practical."

"Remember Noble 6? He dropped from orbit and landed on Reach without dying. He did land in water and the gravity on Reach is less than the gravity here, but I figure this drop is still survivable from inside the Elephant." He got up and pressed a button on the hologram console. "As you can see, Pandora makes up most of the planet, but there are quite a few large water sources which we could aim at to make it more likely to survive the drop. Hell even landing in sand would be pretty soft compared to landing on solid ground. Let's just hope we don't screw up and land in some mountains or some other hard surface."

"I thought the original plan WAS to drop down in ODESA's. That's what Eddy was implying. We have been talking solely about how to deal with the potential Covey presence on the Vesuvius."

Chris sighed deeply.

"Weren't you listening? At all?"

Jacob shook his head. The argument which had erupted was getting them nowhere, though he knew he hadn't helped at all. He touched the dent he had made in the wall, and began thinking. The Elephants were too heavy to push, at least alone. But what if we pushed them with something? No, they weigh over 200 tonnes. But no matter what, Jacob kept coming back to the same idea. He knew it was crazy, and would never work, but it still stuck. 200 tonnes; what could push 200 tonnes other than a large ship. Darn it there's got to be a way! In frustration he slammed his fist into the dent, deepening it more. "Just let me take a ship out. I'll be able to draw the Covenant away, and after that I could even hook...a cable, or something, to the ODESA, and pull them out."

Reina finally had enough of the bickering over the plan. If they couldn't agree on the minor details of a boarding action, especially when everyone and their second cousin was suggesting plans and going out of line to do so, how could they have cohesion on the ground? She slammed her fist on the table, creating a visible impact point, and opaqued her visor so everyone could see her very serious expression.
"Alright, ladies. Let's do this like the professionals we are, at least I assume all of us are. Eddy, run us back through the proposed plans. We'll vote on them as they come back up. You can only vote once, and you can only vote on your own plan if someone else has voted on the same plan first. Also, anyone who is not a team leader will shut up unless voting or spoken to. May I remind you that we, the team leaders, are the ones creating this plan, not everyone else. Your input is appreciated, but we need to have order, and you all are NOT the ones leading this mission."
