Critical Faliure

Xel didn't care much of what was going on before him, he had just missed the attack and had gotten moved out of the way, nothing much. He watched as the plans for a split up were mentioned. "If we are to split up," he began, "I'll be fine by myself. I know a little bit about fighting." He looked at Spartan and the girl behind him. Heh, he thought, a little beginning to a little love story. How precious. Ugh, if only they knew how short love could be. If only they knew... Xel stared at the ground beneth them. Was it hiding something? He couldn't guess.... yet, of course.

Grey snorted with laughter and shook his head at Xel. "Fine by yourself? Really now?" He laughed mockingly. And smirked at the boy, arms crossed and leaning on the wall. "If you didn't realize, about twenty collective showed up a while ago. At the same time. And what can you do?" he thought about it. "Ah, right, perfect memory. Are you planning to remember them to death if they catch you? Good luck with that. Remember, there is safety and strength in numbers." He managed a resignated look and waved to the hall. "But if you insist, I won't stop you." True, he did mean what he said, but he was also thinking about it from another point of view; one more person equals one more shield.

"Heh," Xel responded, "I see that you don't hold much faith in me, but should I have to tell you what I plan to do, or is it that hard to assume that I plan on remembering every space in every room I walk in so that I can escape. Also, if I am to find some information, I don't need to bring any files back, I'll know it." He seemed quite dissapointed with Grey's assumption that Xel couldn't protect himself. In a sense it was quite offensive, but he could overlook it. He was going to work with this furry for a while, so it was the best thing to do.

"I'll come with you then, Xel, cause I can protect you as we go, and I want to get away from Kris and DK. Besides, while you know something about fighting, won't it be useful who knows a lot about fignting, and can quickly get various things to protect you and fight." Judas had come back down to that floor, and had joined in the conversation.

Asmodeus walked over to DK, Kris and Grey, "I'll go with you guys then, but don't expect me to do much fighting, because I am better at picking locks and breaking things like firewalls than I am at fighting, or adding locks and creating firewalls if I have too."

Grey smiled at Xel. "Don't take it personally," he said smoothly. "I don't hold much faith in anybody's ability. Not even my own. Skeptic is one of my middle names. Along with Snide, Cynic, etc." He paused and thought about it. "Okay, I have faith in Vicky. She has that whole gravity going for her. And Broken and that taser hand of his." He started counting people off on his fingers as he spoke. "Kris... not so much. He's sporadic. No offense, but Cough syrup and grenades? Judas and his alchemy are useful too. Me, I just refuse to die easily. Not much else to it. So my plan is to run like a bat out of hell, if it come to that."

He turned and pushed DK towards the door, his tail tugging Kris along with him. "But that is enough talking from me. If you don't mind, we will be taking our leave here. Between me and Asmodeus, we might attract too much attention as it is. Yo, you might want to get a move on yourselves." He tossed a radio at Xel. "Stay in contact, will you. Don't push shiny buttons and don't talk to strangers. Cherio!"

"Oi! Quit yer shoving or I'll chop yer tail off cat boy!" DK yelled at Grey. He then turned back around and took a quick look. "I say we go in that direction!" he said as he hefted his axe. He looked around at the other two groups. "Good luck to ye all." he said to them with complete honesty. Then he turned back to the people with him and said "Alright lads! Keep up!" and began walking in the direction he pointed out earlier.

Broken finally stopped worrying about his injuries enough to get into a sitting position. His chest was still a little raw from the burn, but nothing that couldn't be healed with time. Not feeling like speaking much, he took to listening to the others. They all seemed to be talking about exploring, then Grey made a quizzical remark. 'Taser hands?' he thought, regarding his own hands thoughtfully. The eyes on his hands seemed just like small paint patches, but he didn't give it much further thought. 'I am content to go with either group' he decided to say.

Xel caught the radio, examining it closely. "Will do," he said, still looking down at the radio. It was an older model, not exactly clean, but it worked. Glancing at it one last time, he noticed that there was a substance on the back. It was tape resadue, you know, that sticky crap on the back of tape. Anyway, he remembered how labels use this same substance, and that gave him the question, why, and who, would label the old thing? He overlooked this and proceeded to look at the one who wanted to join him. "Why not," Xel responded, knowing well that more firepower was always good. He began to walk the opposite direction from Grey's group, walking into the darker areas of the facality.

"I dont decide what I get. I just write down something, and the book decides. Sometimes I can get something amazing, sometimes something pathetic. Once I wrote down 'Something sharp' and it gave me Excalibur!" Kris said, unwrapping himself from the tail. "I probably have the most Fluxing power. Once second it can be all powerful, one second it can be utterly useless, so I dont really blame you for the distrust." Kris said, laughing, before following them. He decided to stay at the back, mainly because he had no doubt that any creatures they found would be near the front, and partly because D.K seemed to not like his Journal. And who could blaime him, it creates things from thin air. Atleast, Kris thought it did.

"Ya know, I'm beginning to regret tagging along with this one," Grey said in a perfectly calm voice. He trudged along behind DK and cocked an ear back to catch Kris' protests. "You got Excalibur? the real one? Did you keep it?" Grey wasn't sure what Kris' book did with the things it coughed up. The syrup got crushed by Wraith, the grenade exploded and the steroids wore out. Hmm... medicine, grenades, drugs and radio's. Maybe DK was on to something. That book was weird. "What would happen if you wrote 'Excalibur' in the book?"

"I say we don't find out!" DK yelled back at Grey. "Leave that book be until we need it! I don't feel like dying right now!"

DK went back to looking around at his surroundings. Everything was dull, bare, and dusty. It looked like nobody had been in here for quite some time. Yet there had to be something to find in this place. DK just hoped it wasn't something that could over power them and kill them. If push came to shove though, he would do everything he could to take down whoever tried killing him. And, well, he might helped out the guys with him. Maybe.

Grey grinned but hid it behind a cough and a fist. So the dwarf didn't like weird books. If he put his mind to it, Grey could find a perfectly scientific explanation to the phenomena the book performed, but this way was more entertaining. But they were sopposed to be exploring. "And what's behind door number 1?" He opened a door an looked in. "It's a brand new tunnel," he whispered in a game show announcer's voice. Another passageway, this one clean and new looking, with glowing panels set in the wall for light. Grey sniffed the hall. Not much traffic, though he could tell this was the path Broken's victim's drones took to reach them. Maybe they could follow it out. "You guys up for taking the new tunnel behind door number 1? Or would you rather wander in the dank dusty one for a bit longer?"

"I dont know. Maybe I'd end up with a Pin." Kris answered, looking down at the pouch with his book in. He'd never really questioned it - it had saved him many times so why should he - but now that Grey'd brought it up, it was very Intriguing. "As for Excalibur, I think it was the real one. It managed to cut through everything. It faded though, after a while. Some things fade, somethings dont. These clothes, for example. Just summoned them out of the book, and they've stayed ever since." Kris said, wondering about it. "I guess it must take things out of the real world. Maybe King Arthur existed? And I think that If someone needs it, then it must reappear in the real world. So the Cough medicine would stay here, but a one of a kind Spear would vanish after a while." Kris stated, before looking at the tunnel. "Well, it's got lights. We take this tunnel." Kris stated, allowing the dwarf to go first.

"New tunnel it is," Grey commented. They moved from the old tunnel to the new one. The door swung shut behind them and vanished like reflection in a disturbed pool of water. Grey stared at it. Then the groped at where he handle was. "Okay... this is different. Note to self, don't close door." He shrugged and turned to ask the others their opinions when the floor tilted almost a full ninth degrees. Maybe seventy, seventy-five. In any case, they all slid down the suddenly smooth and slick tunnel turned chute. Abruptly, it widened and they fell out of the tunnel into a wide room filled with tall book shelves filled with books, landing in a disorderly pile on the ground.

Broken had decided to follow Xel and his group, as it seemed the other one was already too far off, so he tailed behind them.

Broken had been observing the facility somewhat, it seemed to be some kind of factory or maybe some kind of other production facility. He had only glanced at the terminal before it had been busted by the virus, too bad to, as it appeared that there was a mysterious benefactor called 'Messenger' that they needed to find. Darn, it appeared Xel's group had gotten to far ahead, causing Broken to jog a little in order to catch up.

As they tumbled down the shaft, Asmodeus managed to get to the back of the group and use his wings to avoid crashing with the rest of them, instead hovering in the air above the room safely, and out of the now closed off shaft. "This was a trap then, to lure us in and dump us here. Whoever these Collective are they know where we are." Asmodeus landed on the floor of the room, and picked up a few books from the floor, having a look to see what was in them. "These are all RPs and Fan Fiction, based on the a few of the same worlds but on different times and stories, do you think they have some relation to this place, and where we are trying to go."

Judas was bored, he had been following Xel for a while now, and there was still no sign of any terminals or a way out. "Are you sure you know the way back, because this place is just getting confusing, and we still haven't encountered any terminals." Judas looked behind to see Broken following quite a way behind them, lagging behind and having trouble catching up.

Xel glanced behind him, finding that someone else had tagged along with him. While he wasn't supportive of having another person in his group, he didn't want to have to escort Broken back, so it was best to just let him stay. Xel answered, slighty offended, "I know where we're going." That wasn't a lie. He had been paying close attention to the details of each room he walked into, knowing the way back easily. Each room, however, was just a broken down mess of corrupted data, until they got into the next room. Xel scanned the data of the room and it seemed suprisingly.... complete, although the room was rather empty and dank. "Guys," he whispered," we might not be alone."

OOC?: The funny thing about life is that when it screws with you, it tends to screw hard. Okay, that sounded wrong. But when life is ruled my me, I don't just play around, I mess with you and **** you up. Big time. But it's all for a good cause. Maybe.

Broken didn't need to worry about catching up anymore. Three holes opened in the roof and sucked them up like a set of giant vacuum hoses. And Broken, Judas and Xel were the dust bunnies. They were pulled up and around and over before being spat out into a plain room. Much like the one they first arrived in, but cleaner and better lit. The holes closed with a soft glow. Directly across from them, Beacon stood silently. Alone, with no drones or any other sign of the collective. "Hello again Broken," he said calmly. "We... I need to speak with you."

Broken regarded the beacon coollly, the child was just really, REALLY creepy. 'And I don't; if you want an apology, then know that I'm not sorry for what I did. I you want another helping of the Heart Shock, then I am free to give one. Otherwise, we have nothing to discuss' to answered coldly. He pushed himself up and gazed around the room, looking for a way out. 'You used I; since when did one who claimed to be a part of one supermassive conscious use a term that signifies individuality?'

Since you linked with me Beacon said directly to Broken's mind. "You where not aware of that fact, were you? When you used your heart shock on me, I inadvertently probed you. Our abilities are somewhat inverses of each other. Probe draws memories from the avatar, your Heart Shock forces them in. When I and my unit awoke, we realized that while the Master's presence was still in my mind, we were isolated. I... I was alone. But I found you Broken. Not quite like how the Master whispers in my mind, But ghosts of you haunt me Broken. Your memories, your personality. Your soul."

~~~
Grey pulled a book from the shelf. "After Dark?" he read. "Why does that sound familiar?" He pulled more. "War of the Worlds? Darts? Bakugan? Pokemon? What the hell is this?" Grey was confused. He was still randomly pulling books from the selves when something burst from his pocket. It was his notebook. But it was different. Larger. He picked it up. On the front, which was previously blank, a title appeared. 'Critical Failure.' He had no idea what it meant, but Messenger mentioned something like that, didn't he? As he opened it, four small cards fell out. And the first chilled him. The second had him worried, and the third confused. The last? That was just gibberish.
Xel wasn't expecting what that complete data meant. Too bad five seconds later he found out. When sucked through the hole he didn't struggle, in fact, he was wondering what was up there anyway. As Broken talked the boy, Xel just sat back and watched before subtly taking out his walkie talkie and whispering, "we're in an unknown room with a Collective. Don't worry." He didn't care much that the enemy was right in-front of him, the floor's data was complete! It would be easy to escape, so easy,... too easy. There was much he could've done there and then, yet he attempted none of the choices. He figured the Collective considered him a pawn in their game so, why not surprise them?
"Really?" Kris asked, looking around the Library like room they were in. "That means that the Collective just dropped us into the Database. AKA, an armory." Kris stated, grabbing the nearest book. "I guess I'll just grab a.....Torch?" Kris said, confused. He picked up the strange Cylinder object and flicked the small switch on the side, causing a massive blast of light to come from it. "I guess it could be useful in the dark places. AKA, the whole of this world." Kris muttered, placing the book back on the shelf. "Infact, I dont think we should open these really. We could end up summoning a monster from one of these RPs. Some kind of super villain person." Kris stated, looking around with his new source of light for an exit.
DK was wondering around the "library" trying to calm down. The fall made him grumpy, and books always calmed him down. He was just about to open a book and read it when he heard Kris. He quickly stuffed the book back on the shelf. "Eh, yer probably right." he said to Kris. Then he noticed the four cards that fell out of Grey's book. "Oh!" he yelled at Grey. "Maybe it's a card for each of us and has our prophecies!" He sprinted towards Grey and began examining the cards. "These cards are weird. I can't understand this purple one, this Messenger one creeps me out, and this Sadistic GM one is weird. Wait a second! This one has your name on it Grey!" DK read the card more closely. "Oi! Does this mean you can give up one of yer nine lives to save someone?" he asked surprised.
While waiting for Grey's response, DK walked over to the nearest shelf and looked at the books. Two books immediately stood out to him. One was titled "Operation: Survival" and the other was titled "Werewolves". "Weird." he thought to himself. "I wonder why those two books stand out to me?"
