Greiga
Zexal is Yugioh done right. It invites new viewers unfamiliar with the card game, stars a hero that a hero that fans can relate to because he's terrible at the game and is learning unlike past leads who were already masters (hopefully, the viewer grows with him), encourages smart plays over "power of friendship triumphs over playing smart" B.S. (so far,) and teaches viewers bits of the game while selling new cards. THIS IS HOW YOU USE A TV SERIES TO SELL A CARDGAME. The bad guy reminds me of Dr. Wily from Battle Network. The series so far feels like the Battle Network/Star Force.
Cept Starforce anime sucked for season 2 (Tribe) and EXE anime usually made no sense. Silly problem of the week involving villain with unique power/theme (Numbers) The D-Gazer acting like a Virtualizer Younger cast Overweight friend like Dex/Bud Bison. Obvious love interest like Mayl/Sonia. Goofy-looking villains who act serious. Dr. Wily-looking villain. Rival who comes off as a jackass at first that will become a friend similar to Chaud. A smarter, otherdimensional partner like Megaman EXE/ Omega-Xis. Acquiring villain-of-the-week's card like Megaman EXE/ Starforce getting the boss' summoning Battle Chip/Battle Card or Double Soul/Cross/Noise. Merci
Gameplay of the Starforce series is the only one in thousands of games that I find interesting. Starforce 2 was much more horrible than 3, but the gameplay's always cool.

evilfusion
Let's face it, there's no way around that in high-stakes duels. Yuma vs Shark (second duel) had moderately low stakes and so Yuma could lose. Any duel with Numbers is a high-stakes duel. Yuma vs Kaito HAD to go that way. Kaito is much stronger than Yuma, but if he actually wins, Yuma would lose his Numbers and soul. That would put an end to the series, period. So he won't officially win. That means either Yuma has to win (and take all of Kaito's Numbers) or they have to get a draw. Obviously, Kaito is meant to be a recurring threat or at least a major one, so Yuma's not going to win on their first encounter. And to make Kaito a genuine threat, getting a draw is way too contrived. So, the result: Kaito curb-stomps Yuma, but leaves without winning. It's stupid, but that has to happen in order to make antagonists serious threats. Somehow, the protagonist has to not win, but they cannot suffer the consequences for defeat. Or, the consequences have to affect someone else (Yugi vs Rafael).
That's because in Yugioh, the police are idiots who think trading cards are more effective than guns when stopping a criminal. Remember how Sector Security had Kalin at their mercy with the duel, but were helpless when he physically attacked them? CRIMINAL: EVERYBODY FREEZE! THIS IS A STICK-UP! *Waves salami* SECTOR SECURITY #1: PUT DOWN THE SALAMI OR WE WILL DUEL YOU! CRIMINAL: I don't have a duel disk or cards. SECTOR SECURITY #1: ...Damn. What do we do now? SECTOR SECURITY #2: I think he has us. We should just...give him what he wants? SECTOR SECURITY #1: But he has hostages... SECTOR SECURITY #2: He has a salami and all we have are these trading cards. We're at a tactical disadvantage. SECTOR SECURITY #1: If only we had guns. SECTOR SECURITY #2: No. That's a stupid idea. Who would be more afraid of a police officer with a gun over a guy with lightning bolt hair and trading cards? Seriously, let's spike up our hair and shout "BELIEVE IN NEXUS" over and over and ramble on about "roads to tomorrow." He'll think we're crazy, and let the hostages go. SECTOR SECURITY #1: ... SECTOR SECURITY #2: What? SECTOR SECURITY #1: I say we tackle him. SECTOR SECURITY #2: Tackle him? We never had physical training in the academy! We only learned Priority!
