So Kaito wins...but Misael doesn't get turned to energy from the duel, and Kaito up and dies from the duel?
ZEXAL writers, you do realize you just made the noble sacrifices of the Vetrix Family ENTIRELY POINTLESS, right?!?
Not really, since their point was to let Kaito unlock the key to the Numeron Code, which he did (Number 100). Not so save Kaito, but to save the whole world from the Barian threat.

And it's kinda working since now Mizael is joining the frontier against Don Thousand, armed with No. 100.

THEN WHY NOT HAVE KAITO, WHO SACRIFICED SO MUCH TO GET HERE, DO THE DAMN JOB?!?
ESPECIALLY SINCE HE'S A DEUTER-F**KING-AGONIST?!?

Holy s***......just holy s***. Kaito is dead, #100 is revealed as the Numeron Dragon, and he trusts Mizael as the next Dragon Master?

Strange....Kaito didn't get absorbed as energy into the Barian World. So he's...legitimately dead. Exhausted and Asphyxiated? Now even though they let off a main character being dead, they did execute the scene very well. I hope Yuma comes to his senses he won't let anybody die in front of his face. Now that Mizael is on their side, will he meet up with Yuma and set fourth to the Barian World as planned?

So ZeXal can't do something unexpected and have a main character die?  Kaito was taking a huge risk by dueling in space to begin with, and it was all just to get the key to the Numeron Code so that the others could use it to finally put an end to the Barian threat.

I did have a feeling Kaito would die. I just expected it to be in the form of Barian World absorption (and thus, not permanent), rather than outright DEATH.

I had that hunch due to their rocket exploding, when I noticed that regardless of the outcome, Kaito had no way off the moon. The twist would only be dumb if Kaito LOST, though.

It's not a bad twist, though. Kaito's character development road is over, and near the end of the episode, it seemed like he was having similar reactions to when his Photon Mode overuse was killing him. The theme of this arc has been sacrifice for the greater good, which fits Kaito's character, considering he was willing to overuse his Photon Mode to collect Numbers for Haruto. Giving up his life to help Yuma and Astral unlock the Numeron Code and stop the Barians for good would be his act of repentance for capturing souls.

I wish I could understand the dialogue though. The vibe I got was Kaito acknowledged Mizael as a dragon tamer who could do more than he could.

Rough translation I got of about the last few minutes of the episode:
Kaito: Mizael, why did you become a Dragon user?
Mizael: What?
Kaito: I don’t know anything about you.
However, you didn’t believe in people, yet believed in dragons.
Those desolate eyes of yours.
They resemble those of the dragon depicted on the stone monument.

Baby!Miza: Mother… father…

Mizael: Don’t you dare pity me!
Kaito: I’m not pitying you. You are the strongest Dragon user.
I want to save my younger brother and father.
With that in mind, I used my dragon. The power of the Galaxy-Eyes.
Since I first laid my eyes on the card, it’s guided me until I’m as strong as I am now. And on the guided path of Galaxy-Eyes, I’ve been able to meet Yuuma, Astral, Ryoga, and several other comrades.
And then, I met you.
They taught me, who used to be lonely, and refused to believe in anyone… they taught me how to believe in others.
Hey, Mizael…
If we’re able to meet again someday, can you tell me about yourself?
Mizael: Kaito…

Dr. Faker: Kaito… Kaito, that’s enough, stop this! You’ve done enough, so…!
Haruto: Nii-san, don’t do this… I can’t…

Kaito: I activate Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon’s effect! During the turn it is Special Summoned, the card’s Attack is multiplied by the number of Overlay Units it had when it left the field!
Mizael: An Attack of 8000!
Kaito: Go, Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon!

Mizael: That’s the true form of the Galaxy-Eyes?
Kaito: Numeron Dragon…
O7: Kaito-sama…
O7: You’ve done it… Kaito-sama…
Kaito: Orbital, excellent work too.
O7: I’ve finally… been praised. I really like you… Kai…

Obomi: Darling, thank you.

Yuuma: Kaito! Hey, Kaito, get yourself together! Oy! We’ve yet to duel! We’ve yet to settle a conclusion between us!

Kaito: That’s true, but… looks like it’ll have to be postponed again.

Yuuma: Stop joking! Stand! Stand up and duel me!

Kaito: Don’t cry, Yuuma. You’re our last hope.

Yuuma: Kaito!

Haruto: Nii-san!
Dr. Faker: Kaito! Don’t die you are not allowed to die!

Kaito: Tou-san, I don’t have anymore regrets. Haruto, I’m depending on you to take care of Tou-san.

Dr. Faker: Kaito… forgive me.
Haruto: Nii-san! Nii-saaaaaaaaaaaan!!

Kaito: Mizael… go, towards the path you believe in.

Kotori: It can’t be, even Kaito…

Yuuma: Kaito… Kaito…
Yuuma: Kotori, Astral, I’ve decided. I won’t cry anymore. Not before this fight is over.
That’s my kattobingu.
Astral: Yuuma.
Kotori: Yuuma…
Yuuma: Let’s do this! Vector! Don Thousand!

Just as I thought. Yuma is getting his act together and Kaito places faith in Mizael, having confidence he will choose the path that he, as the true Dragon Tamer will help Yuma and co. to stop Don Thousand/Vector. Now we look forward to Nasch as one of our only hopes left. As for now, being Kaito is the only one who actually and literally died, may he rest in peace until the miracle deus ex machina ending comes.

Those fake previews looking more and more legit. The only inaccuracy so far is that it said Mizael fights Don Thousand with No.62.

And I guess now we know the connection of the dragons better. It kind of explains why Jinlong, Mizael, and Kaito wanted each others' dragons: All 3 make No.100. Interestingly...the sum of Kaito's Numbers = 108. No.107 is the other piece.

Zexal has been surprisingly full of deaths these past few episodes.

Definitely, especially since some of the cooler characters are amongst them (Kaito, IV) Though, I'm not gonna lie, I also shed manly tears watching that episode. (Even moreso than when Antinomy died)

R.I.P. Kaito Tenjo

Episode 13 - 135

YCM's favourite Galaxy-Eyes user and a true badass. You will never be forgotten.

It was a very poignant scene. Unlike pretty much every single Yugioh show ever where a character dies or "dies", the body vanishes in some form, even if the death is permanent. Kaito's body didn't do that. It showed his life support (while in space) fail, and then freeze over, and his body continues laying there.

Watching Kaito's life support fail once and for all was very sad indeed and if Kaito's body had vanished somewhat after his life support failed, it wouldn't seem as real, thus I preferred it this way, though I don't think I can watch that scene and not shed a tear.

I hope they don't, though. It'd ruin the impact.

Besides, all the other "dead" characters were given potential "Get out of death free" cards by being absorbed by the Barian World. Kaito did not.

Speaking of which, if it's anything like the Earthbounds-
X souls return when Y is destroyed/removed/etc

Although the Earthbound Immortals were a case that the Immortals THEMSELVES absorbed souls. With the Barians, it seemed to be not only everyone who picked up a Fake Number, but all the Duelists who are defeated by a Barian. So far, Nasch is the only Barian who defeated someone and hasn't lost/been absorbed since (Mizael too, but he did lose).

Odds are, most of the characters will return when Don Thousand is defeated. After all, the Barian World fusion and Fake Numbers were both orchestrated by him specifically to increase his power, as is absorbing the Barian lords.

It could end up being bittersweet since technically all the Barian Lords are people who are already long dead, so while the Arclights and everyone else who got taken by them will most likely return to life, the Barian Lords might actually get to "pass on".
