Well, V-Salamander is FIRE, so the burn and destruction effect is fitting. And yeah, the V- cards are almost definitely Varian versions of ZWs. I hope they're not Utopia specific, though. Really, Limited Varian's Force could have a lot of potential with other Numbers.

Of course, Limited Force only works on Rank 4s specifically in TCG/OCG, while it's Rank 4 or lower in the anime. That could be obnoxious if writers are trying to create more CN-Vs that would actually function in the TCG/OCG.

And now I've watched the episode raw.

That was fast. I'm getting quite amused by the way Astral reacts any time Yuma seems to obsess over using Varian cards. Because seriously, look at how enthusiastic Yuma seems to get when he can play them, and how upset he gets when Limited Force gets sealed. Astral is understandably bewildered at the most obvious aspect: "Where the hell is he getting these"?

Why has ZEXALII been such a train wreck when it comes to the execution of plot ideas and character development?
A few examples of what I am talking about:
1. The plot made a hard right at the start of ZEXAL II, straying completely off of the Number hunt, which was half-completed.
2. Yuma is oblivious in moments when he should clearly not be, such as when Kotori and Cathy were brainwashed, as he didn't seem to pick up on the fact that the reason for that was his TAG PARTNER, or that the aforementioned tag partner was acting completely contrary as to what he said earlier.
3. The Barians are not as threatening as they should be, and most of them have lousy personalities. Alit is basically Yuma (though he's the best of them so far), Gilag is a coward, Misael is a flashy fop, and Vector's just psychotic.
ZEXAL was alright, and could have been better, but ZEXAL II seems to have missed the mark completely.
What gives?

Well Zexal II has a couple things going for it. Even if I agree 150% with EVERYTHING your saying.  Espicially Vector being crazy.

1. Yuma used 4 non Hope Numbers so far, and we aren't even 20 epsiodes in. ( 6, 34, 61, and 96 )

2. Rio.

3. A decent new Number. ( Number 66 )

4. Kotori ACTUALLY dueled.

5. Rei becomes kind of cool once we find out he's an alien cop.

6.........Charmer copslay.....? Ok yeah, I'm grasping for straws now.....

Plus you have to realize Yuma and Astral have 50/100 Numbers at the start of Zexal II. The Varians had at least 1 of Astral's Numbers, but lost it. Its highly likely they have more. Maybe 9 or 10 more at the most. From the sounds of the spoilers, we'll be seeing a few new Numbers soon ( lets just say 3 for now ). That would be roughly 63 Numbers. Meaning that there are 37 random people out there with Numbers OR are Blank Numbers that have yet to be found by someone. Still quite a few though.... Which brings me to wonder. Do you think Rei may have any Numbers? I'm sure he's got to have at least 1.

1. He should have been using his other Numbers more often, and why he chooses when and when not to use his non-Hope Numbers is never explained.
2. Who mainly serves as fanservice and a plot device, and has little personality outside of that.
3. We should have been getting new Numbers all this time instead of branching off to deal with Chaos Xyzs and Rank Ups.
4. Yes, but she used cheerleader monsters. CHEERLEADERS.
5. But we had to endure his utter stupidity all before that.
6. Face it. There are more cons that pros this season.

Kotori's dueling wasn't really progress at all. She went back to not duel, and decided to fight with a pan against Gilag's brainwashed minions, and the time she WAS about to Duel, got brainwashed by RUM and didn't even play on her free will. Even if she had, the Duel revealed cheerleaders and cute Fairies filling her Deck.

Rei still looks kinda.... I have this feeling that he has more of a chance with Yuma than Kotori, Cathy, and that other girl actually have combined.

Other than that, yeah, I agree with you and with the comment you quoted xD

5. But we had to endure his utter stupidity all before that. True. I would say Bruno did something similar to hide his identity, but Bruno was a genius.
6. Face it. There are more cons that pros this season. Just trying to be optimistic....

I think they just want to make the show last as long as possible side by side the card game. They secured an audience after the usual mixed feelings at the start of a generation, so they probably allow themselves to lower their quality.

Though that doesn't really excuse some of the worst points of the series.

I sort of liked Misael though, it was nice to see he actually cared for his fallen comrades, because from his personality and first impression, one would think that Alit and Gilag were just disposable minions to him. That was probably his one decent point that got to me. Being part of the "bad guys" and all.

The only thing that redeemed Rei as the single most worthlessly annoying Zexal character (and this is competing with YUMA) was how badass he was the moment he flipped over Shining Reborn (also cued by the fact this is the moment his voice changes to its serious, not-a-moron tone). Seriously, that is the only good moment he has in the series thus far. In that vein...he still is the most worthlessly annoying character, but this is now known as a DELIBERATE facade.

On a brief side note, during the Duel with Gilag, he seemed prepared to lose and told Yuma to stop protecting him (Yuma did so anyway). But during that turn, his expression changed when he drew his card. That expression is always used for seeing a key/crucial card. I think he had drawn Limited Varian's Force that turn...which makes it look even more like he was willing to lose without accomplishing a damn thing.

Zexal II has its pros and cons, but it really is more con. Zexal I's villains were pretty good. Kaito was amazingly threatening without being evil, Dr. Faker seemed typically evil, but also had more depth and seemed like an extremist. His backstory was more sympathetic, almost to the point of bad writing (inconsistent with portrayals up to that), and so-on. Tron was interesting and offered a new dynamic of a villain whose motive is to fight and defeat the other villain, and the hero just happens to be an obstacle to those goals until it gets more personal.

III had SOOOOO much potential. But what bugs me is you never really found out his backstory. He got really emotional when he Dueled Yuma, although that triggered his upgraded crest's power and everything went to hell. I wanted to know what caused him that level of pain.

IV was similar. He started out really badass, and even when he was being a dick during the tag Duel, there were hints that he and III had suffered a lot because of Dr. Faker. But when we get down to his duel with Shark...he has a breakdown, claiming it was only because of Tron that he committed the sadistic acts, and while I can conceive of the notion that his desperation to help Tron pushed him to committing evil and sadistic acts, it contradicted EVERYTHING that had been portrayed about IV before that. His sadistic streak seemed to vanish and was replaced by anger. Maybe that was the point, but if so, it's too subtle. If IV tortures his opponents to vent his anger at his past and Tron's lack of faith in him, it should be clearer that he wasn't a sadist at all. And then his personality changes when he loses, which to me implies that the Numbers and/or his crest changed his personality. But III and V don't have that issue (III's upgraded crest not counting), so it seems like a cop-out.

V...we learn Tron's backstory. That's it. And the backstory in itself was a bit anti-climactic.

And now Zexal II shoved annoying gimmicky duels and concepts at us, making an absurd number of Xyz. Not only do we have 107 or more Numbers, but some more Chaos Numbers, random Xyz, random Chaos Xyz...sigh...

Gilag was a dumb character up until recently, when he became visibly distressed about Alit's goal to Duel Yuma fairly, and ESPECIALLY when Alit was ambushed. It took so long to make him have a credible motive and be a threat. Misael was better at being a threat than Gilag and Alit, considering he pretty much was going to own both Yuma and Kaito with ease.

Vector is entertaining, much like Number 96. But there's still the issue of so few Numbers being found, and the fact Yuma has like...12 Numbers that we don't even know the identities of, and he rarely plays non-Hope Numbers. This was always the gripe of Zexal 1: His obsession with Hope. It wasn't until the WDC finals that he even Summoned a Number that wasn't Hope or Revise, and he only acheived that because of Sphere Field. Waste of all his Level modifying cards...

evilfusion is right. The least they could have done is made the Chaos Xyz Chaos Numbers and the random Xyz regular Numbers. That at least would be SOMETHING. What REALLY bothers me is I read a while back Akia ( the girl Rio dueled ) WAS SUPPOSED to have a Number. If that info is true, I have no clue why they changed it...  I'm sure we'll see III again someday. We saw Anna again after all, and she played a much less important role. I understand why they might do the Over 100 Numbers, still not fond of them though. Though, Zexal II DOES have something interesting that I noticed. Durbe and the Barians Lords are the people who Tron worked for. Dr. Faker worked for Vector. Its probably safe to say the Barian Lords knew Tron wanted revenge against Dr. Faker, and we know they knew of Vector's deal with Dr. Faker based off how Alit said "We won't waste time like Vector did". Why would Vector and Durbe not do something about their "pawns" fighting when Vector and the Barian Lords BOTH want to get the Numbers and destroy the Astral World? My guess is they play the roles of the Arclights ( the Barian Lords ) and Dr. Faker ( Vector ) this season. Simply put, Vector and the Barian Lords are enemies. That is, if he isn't a Barian Lord himself.

EDIT- Ladies and gentlemen, Durbe's Number. http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Number_102:_Holy_Lightning_-_Glorious_Halo

I haven't even been following the anime, and it's painfully obvious that Rei is either Vector or Vector's brother. Haven't been watching to know if te former was disproven.

They LOOK the same, they use Shinings and Umbrals (Roughly translated, Shades/Shadows), Bector knew to lock up Limited Force, and Vector uses a card named MASQUERADE Magician - SHINING.

This isn't foreshadowing. This is just bad.

Vector and Rei are 2 different people. Rei dueled Vector and Vector kidnapped Rei. They might be related though. Also, I think Yuma will use Number 66 eventually. Maybe....

Nothing will make sense if he doesn't, because we could clearly see that Vector pretty much intended to lose that Number.

Much like Dark Mist lost on purpose back in it's debut.

Though it could also be that Vector wants Yuma to collect the Numbers much like Bakura benefited from Yugi getting the Millenium Items.

Or 66 is the one that will influence Astral to become evil again. Considering its number…

If Master Key Beetle is what makes Astral evil, it will confirm my theory.

96- Evil.

69- Evil and unstable.

6- Slightly unstable. III had a hard time controlling it, but Yuma was able to control Atlanthal.

66- ???

6 seems to be associated with bad things when it comes to the Numbers. Might be a coincidence.
