The wikia page for Rei says that Rei is in alliance with the Barians.

The first of the 2 episodes is one I want to see becuae DARK MIST! The second has "pointless filler" written all over it.

Dark Mist's next ep is just awful sounding.

I mean, he's a Bakura-esque villain, but he goes out of his way to be a dick to Astral, just because. There's no reason to attack him RIGHT then, and Bakura was actually willing to put the protagonist's goal ahead of his own if it was going to aid him or save him some trouble, whereas Dark Mist just appears randomly to give Astral a hard time at awkward moments.

But maybe it has Obomi and/or Orbital dueling. I'd like to see that a bit. Plus, it might be actual character interaction outside Yuma and the barians. Which did happen in the Kastle sibling episodes but nowhere else in the season.
And yes, more plot advancements otherwise.

Considering that Obomi has a deck, it sounds possible. It would be hilarious to see Orbital 7 summon himself though.

Last episode did make it very clear Rei is odd in some way. There's been a lot of hints throughout the season so far, but yeah...

Black Mist needs an actual goal to be a real antagonist. His first appearance was excellent, his second appearance was attempting to be inconvenient to the extreme for Yuma, but Astral still managed to send Hope to Yuma, making it kind of pointless. That appearance also implied Black Mist is the memory of Astral's goal to destroy the world, but since Astral doesn't believe it, Black Mist just tries to possess him again, and absorb the power of the other Numbers, which had the added side effect of the other Numbers but Hope being "evil" (ugh, stupid plot idea).

There's no point to keep doing this, though. Maybe more of Black Mist's goals and motives will be clear in this appearance, but if not, they're just trying to say "Hey, 96 is important. Proof here!"

I remember watching the original anime series and I knew Bakura was going to be significant by the end of the series because they had used his character and laid some foreshadowing (him putting part of his spirit in the Millennium puzzle, which had the added benefit of having him not be destroyed completely when looking to Marik). I have a similar vibe with Black Mist, except Black Mist isn't incredibly cool in every appearance, and his goal is so vague as to be non-existant. Bakura at least was hunting Millennium items (I think).

Here's how I see it: Bakura always had a goal, from the start.

Everything he did was to get the items and lure Atem to their end game, at least from Battle City on. He was clearly a villain, but I remember thinking how neat it was that a villain would willingly help the heroes without siding with them, when I was younger. Like helping Tristan in DK. Yes, he had an ulterior motive, but he was willing to at least temporarily help for his plan. Another example is Yugi v Brain Washed Keith.

He also was willing to let himself receive major harm rather than risk Bakura, which gave him a degree of depth, even though he was still quite clearly evil.

There was no doubt that he'd backstab Marik hen the time came. That's who he was. A conning villain with a degree of interesting depth.

Dark Mist just comes off as a once per major arc douchr that hates Astral.

*reads Black Mist is coming back*

Everything thereafter is irrelevant.

Well, no, I agree with all of the above on his use as a character. Hopefully there will be proper plot this time to fulfill on some promising early potential.

As for the other ep... ugh... as much as Orbital has grown on me as a sidekick/comic relief, do I really want to watch an episode dedicated to him, which will probably end up with him duelling Yuma who battles to save Obomi's honour by using another new non-Number Xyz in a dreadful no plot or character devloping rehash of the YumaxAnna storyline when she debuted? Do I?

Easy now. Yuma DID use a Number against Obomi. Granted it WAS Hope, but that does mean he's willing to use Numbers against her. Though, it is also possible that the only non Number Xyz he had at the time was Baby Tragon.... My point is that if Yuma does duel, there is a small chance he will use a non Hope Number. Besides, it seems the episodes have been removed.

no but you'll watch it anyway

I've already refused to watch 2 episodes this series - vs the school discipline guy and the sports day episode... :(

Yes, but Obomi was going to explode. AND ONLY THE LIGHT AND VIRTUE OF HOPE COULD SAVE HER!!!

Yeah... past me the gun I'll do it myself.

Bakura was interesting because he had his own interests that he always was consistent about.

Zork with no memory? He just remembers that he hunts Millenium Items. He doesn't know exactly why, but he knows that that memory alone must mean something, and he DID remember after they were gathered.

Helping Tristan? Why not? He is after the Eye and the Puzzle there present. Pegasus is more greedy than Yugi, so odds are, he'll be harder to target if he wins, and capturing Mokuba and Tristan would only give him hostages to use to his advantage.

Helping against Bandit Keith? The potential new item just revealed itself, and promises to be around later on, but it's not present in the place, better save Yugi's butt so that I can physically see my target eventually.

Helping out his host survive Slifer's attack? Well, he needs a body and is aware Marik and him are not exactly best buddies that think about each other's interests so, yeah.

Helping out Marik to try to recover his body? Marik is already giving the Rod away, and Bakura just found out about the God Cards, something ought to be good there.

Goal as Zork Necrophades? His entire city, with family, friends, and all, was slaughtered in front of him, and he really didn't know that the pharaoh at the time wasn't aware of it. Being raised in the enviroment he was, things like forgiveness are not going to be priorities, and to be fair, who could blame him even if it was?

Thinking about it.... Bakura is better than I thought o.O"
I always thought of Black Mist as one of the better aspects of ZeXal, but analyzing it well, I see how flawed it is in comparison. Hmmmmm

Depending on how they handle the Orbital episode, it might be fun to watch if you disregard the need of a plot there. I'll give it a chance JUST because I like Orbital.
Some of the poinless filler sometimes turns out to be ok. It's one of the reasons I quit GX back in the day midway through the first 10 or so episodes, but now find it sort of fun to watch pointless episodes like the Dark Scorpions duel so, who knows?

I agree, alot of GX's filler was utterly pointless.

The tennis episiode and the submarine thing. Need I say more? Something else I never figured out is why all girls atoumaticlly get to be in the best dorm.

You don't, but I can add to the list, like the episode with the Golden Eggwich, the episode with the Love Maiden, etc.

At least Blair/Rei was an interesting charecter. In fact, Blair is kind of like a more sane Anna. Has a crush on the hero. Had a crush on someone else prior to their crush on the hero. Shows up enough for her not to bit a useless side charecter.

On a side note, I don't know why but I have a feeling there is a Rank Up Magic Astral's Force or something.

Speaking of Anna, even though she appears in the ending for Zexal 2, she has yet to appear. Hmm....

Side note, since I've been watching older Zexal episodes recently, just random ones, too.

Episode 23/24 (Astral vs Kaito), early on, Astral chooses not to Xyz for Hope because he's worried about Kaito's facedown (which establishes that Kaito bluffs opponents, as he's Set a card but never used it in just about every Duel since, including episode 22 vs Shark).

But after looking at the Duel further, I realized that, knowing all the information in retrospect, had Astral brought out Hope, not only would he have won, but he'd have won EASILY. Like, absolutely annihilated Kaito with no problem whatsoever.

Turn 1: Astral Sets Gogogo Golem and Battle Break.
Turn 2: Kaito Summons Reverse Buster and destroys Gogogo Golem. He Sets Photon Hurricane.
Turn 3: Astral plays Gogogo Giant and revives Golem. He Xyz for Number 39 and attacks. Kaito's Spell is a bluff. Kaito LP: 3500
Turn 4: Kaito's hand has Photon Circler, Photon Leo, Armored Back, Galaxy Storm, and Photon Spear. There is nothing he can actually do to fight Hope. He could maybe play Circler and equip with Spear and set Armored Back to revive next turn and Tribute for Leo, but Leo can't beat Hope, either. Even with halved damage from Circler, there's just very little he can do.
Turn 5: Whatever Astral does
Turn 6: Kaito draws Galaxy-Eyes. Yeah, lot of good that'll do.
Turn 7: Astral should probably have won by now.
Turn 8: Kaito draws Photon Shock. That won't do crap, either.

Granted, the writers could EASILY tweak what cards get drawn, but based on what actually did happen in the Duel, Summoning Hope and not being swayed by Kaito's bluff would have made Kaito get absolutely curb-stomped.
