Ep. 5 is up on Youtube. This episode brings a few things I want to point out.

1. WHY is there a little kid in middle school?
2. WTF was with Yuma doing something he had no idea of doing.
3. Baby Tragon is sooooo cute. I noticed that after it was Summoned, it looked like it was crying. ;(

These 2 are middle schoolers in a different series. Specifically 9th grade.

Obviously the person's just short.

Why did Weevil Clonederwood think his brilliant strategy of giving people a useless Exceed Monster would work?!? Who (besides Yuma) would honestly fall for that trap?!?
Is the future really just that stupid, or-
Oh.
My.
God.
I figured it out! I know why the people in ZEXAL have regressed to using crappy cards! It all comes together! The stupidity of the characters! The automaton of the entire city! The awful pastel combinations!
ZEXAL is Idiocracy!!!

The real reason for this is meant that it's a refresher, and is targeted towards the younger audience.

To tell the truth, I actually like the overalls of ZEXAL, as in: Yuma sucks, Numbers, Soul Hunter (Main Antagonist), Shark, Astral, and most of all, Astral's adventures.

No, Shark hasn't been seen since episode 2, but he's referenced. I assume similar to Kaiba post-defeat, he won't show up for a few episodes, but then return. He's shown in the opening, alongside the card Black Ray Lancer or whatever, so he's still important.

I got the impression Soul Hunter is probably going to be a major character, before I even looked him up on Wiki. Why? Because he's the only character in the opening, aside from the protagonists/neutrals, to be seen more than once, and one of those times he's fighting Yuma in close proximity. And Wiki indicates he's after Yuma's key, so...yeah.

I insist Zexal be given some time before passing judgment on the series. I think it has great potential still, even if some of the plots are slow-moving right now.

I hereby declare myself to be using the Astral method:

Observation #1: Zexal is secretly Pokemon.
Observation #2: Yuma is unworthy of having amazing things like Gogogo Golem!
Observation #3: YUMA IS TEH TURB NOOB
Observation #4: Exceed Summons are badass.
Observation #5: Astral is amazing.

I think they are attempting to get the numbers part of the series done fast

You would expect it to take like 200 ep at least though they are attempting to shrink it to 100-150
I'd think that, unless they start pulling out 1-episode duels that have 3 new Numbers cards in them, the whole Numbers thing will take the entire series to resolve.

Speeding them up to 2 per 2-3-episode duel won't be enough if they intend on continuing for long enough after Yuma gets all of the Numbers.

Oh, and the previews hint that Yuma CAN use them against anyone if Astral is there. He just seems to choose not to in his rematch against Shark.

Yeah, I gathered that the No. monsters exist if Astral is present, otherwise they're not. Astral was in that strange Key world when Yuma faced the class president, but they reappeared when Astral emerged against Ukyo. Similarly, Yuma didnt have Hope until Astral appeared. Being parts of his memory, this makes sense. It also explains how he could have Hope stolen from him if his opponent doesn't have a No. Assuming, he doesn't have a No.

I have a hunch that Shark will be the first rival to legally defeat the protagonist in a rematch, based off episode previews (specifically, episode 11). In which case, he's badass.

Astral could be a psychic.
ASTRAL IS DIVINE!
[/Plottwist]

Anyway.

I watched 1 episode of Zexal. I vomited.

Reasons I don't like it:

1) Yuma's Catchphrase. It's annoying. Even "D-GAZER SET!" would be better.
2) The Characters are seemingly single-layered. Yuma is a Dumbass, Shark Is The Atypical D*ck of a villian. That Fat Kid(Forgot his name) is the Joey Wheeler of the Series and The other one is the Tristan Of The Series. And Astral is your Yami Yugi.
3) The No. Cards are just Plot Devices. All they do is fuel the plot.
4) The HAIRSTYLES. WHAT THE HECK. PINK AND PURPLE HAIR?
5) The First episode is pretty much a Tutorial to the card game.
6) The art style. All Of It. The characters look like they are 5 years old.
7) CARD GAMES IN VIRTUAL REALITY!
8) The Opening Only Shows Yuma. Nitpicking here.

This Opening Shows:

Yusei
Crow
Jack
Vizor(He also gets hit by Stardust Dragon if you look closely enough.)
Aki
Ruka
Bruno
Ushio
TheOtherSecurityPerson(Sima or something? I forgot)
Carly
Sherry
Lucciano
Placido
Jose
Z-One

Yep. That's a hell of a lot more than the ZeXal Intro.

9) The naming. ZeXal? What does that even mean?

Yu-Gi-Oh
Yu-Gi-Oh Generation X
Yu-Gi-Oh 5 Dragons

These all mean something. ZeXal Means?

10) They all have scouters. Yes, I know they are "D-Gazers" but what.The.Hell.

So... Yuma apparently isn't allowed to duel? Weird.

The Opening Only Shows Yuma.
You obviously weren't paying attention:

Yuma Tsukumo
Akari Tsukumo
Haru Tsukumo
Kotori Mizuki
Tetsuo Takeda
Kathy
Professor Ukyo
Takashi Todoroki
Mr. Tsukumo
Mrs. Tsukumo
Astral
Ryoga Kamishiro
Kaito Tenjo
Takashi Todoroki

Also, Vizor isn't the one being hit by Stardust.

Shark was already badass and didn't seto kaiba
I said "legally" for a reason. Kaiba cheated with his whole "I'll kill myself if you dont let me win" shtick.

@Invalid:

1) It is overused in episode 1. It gets less shoved in our face later, though.
2) It's the first episodes. Character development doesn't start immediately. And GX was hardly better with character parallels.
3) Um...yeah, at the moment. The plot has to do with the No. monsters but that doesn't mean they're all worthless.
4) The hair styles are weird, but some of them are awesome.
5) It's theorized that Zexal intends to not only show viewers how to properly play, but will follow RL rules more. The fact the first episode showcases an entirely new GAME MECHANIC may have something to do with it.
6) And no remark on how characters duel entirely over-the-top? That's MY gripe.
7) That's a complaint? It seems practical to me.
8) You're comparing a mid-season 2 opening to early season 1 Zexal opening. Be fair and compare the first 5Ds opening instead. Also, there are several more characters featured than just Yuma, although yes, he and Astral consume a lot of screentime.
9) No clue, actually.

The X isn't pronounced, so it's clearly Zeal:

zeal /zēl/
Noun: Great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective: "his zeal for privatization".

---

Who else here expects Yuma to attack directly with Gagaga Magician using Baby Tragon's effect?

I so totally do. I think Baby Tragon is somehow going to win the duel.

Every series has character parallels

Yugi=Jaden=Yusei=Yuma
Kaiba=Chazz=Jack=Shark
Joey=Hassleberry=Crow=?
Yami=Yubel=Yusei's Father=Astral
Tea=Alexis=Akiza=Kotori

Now that is probably all wrong though thats what i think about the parallels
The Joey equivalent is obviously Tetsuo.

And I'd place Syrus over Hassleberry. Hassleberry took too long to get introduced, and only had a handful of duels.
