Wait. Wait. I just realized a few things...

1.When Yuma summoned Ganbara Knight in ATK mode, Astral states that their chance for a counterattack would have been lost if it had been in DEF mode. Face-up Defence Mode monsters can be Overlaid.
2.The first time in the series when a monster is played from the hand in DEF mode, it was set.
3.The show wants to teach people the rules of the game.

It's possible, but note that Astral also announced in episode two they would Summon Gogogo Golem in Defense (which Yuma didn't do).

I don't think they'll always Set when playing in Defense. Bugman X just had 2000 defense and a good strategist would set it, concealing the strategy and the stats.

He clearly said "set".

In any case, I'd have subbed the episode myself by now, if I knew Japanese.

And here I was thinking that they explained Tribute Summoning and Exceed Summoning because the observer doesn't know the rules and the mechanic is new, respectively.

I found that, too. Unfortunately, my computer's display driver does not like that site/video and will repeatedly crash until the computer itself crashes. So...unless someone's willing to copy the script for me so I can watch the raw with the script, I can't watch it.

Is it me or did they copy Rockman.EXE battle network in episode 3? With the whole, bugman x and virus taking over street lights?!

D-Gazer = Virtualizer

Later in the Zexal series, we'll see CARDGAMES ON RADIO WAVES!

My only problem with the subs here is that the subber chose to translate iinchou as "Committee Chairman" instead of the more common, and more logical translation choice of "Class President".

Nice to see that someone finally got around to subbing it, tho.

Episode 4 was hilarious in how incredibly stupid Yuma is with his "I'll do the exact opposite of everything you say" routine. It took him a little too long to catch on, too.

What's especially hilarious is that it cements Yuma as an absolute noob. He's so unwilling to listen to any advice he'll SABOTAGE himself out of spite.

Astral took a HUGE risk with his advice (granted, Yuma's a moron). Zubaba Knight could have destroyed Super Bugman with its effect, and allowing Yuma to Exceed Summon Revise Dragon could have backfired spectacularly if he hadn't predicted Ukyo's Set card.

Episode 5 is...weird.

I didn't see it subbed, but I believe that set card (the one that recovered effect damage, yes?) worked like Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, and so it was the same card he'd used to negate the damage from Achacha Archer.

...

God Yuma needs a new deck.

No, it was a second copy of the same card (Damage Vaccine Omega MAX). Astral assumed that since Ukyo wanted a "perfect victory" (which he stated at least twice and got annoyed that his LP was touched) that if he took damage, he was bound to use a card to restore his LP. He completely guessed and just ended up being right, allowing Yuma to win. If he had been wrong on the card's identity or purpose (LP gain), they'd have lost on the spot.
