J-COMI is an attempt to release free, legal, out-of-print manga for download as a PDF file or for reading through mobile devices. Apparently, the mangaka are paid through the ads that are placed around the site.

Also, there apparently will be a feature added soon that allows translation of the text into other languages through Google Translate.

They are currently in their [b]second beta release[/b]. Manga currently on there are the entirety of:

Apparently, in the first week after the last 2 releases I listed there, they made the following amount of money:

After School Wedding: 525000 Yen ($6,551.19/£4,088.75)
Traffic Accident Appraiser Kan Rin'ichirō: 1065000 Yen ($13,288.51/£8,293.042)

Personally, I'd like to see a better selection and actual English translations, but this is only in the beta stages, so not having stuff like that is to be expected.
