Booster Pack/Gimp Troubles

[font="Impact"]I need help I got some pictures off the internet and ive been wanting to get rid of the background so i can put just the image on a booster pack? take image of the pokemon pikachu for example if i just want an image of pikachu and nothing else of the the saved image how do i do that with the gimp 2.6 and or paint?[attachment=31681:Pikachu.jpg]

How would i just get the picture of pikachu and not the background

In this case, you can't, because the background goes over Pikachu (the lines and stars go over it's lower half). But there are plenty of Pikachu renders on the internet.
