Your Favorite Non-Metal Bands (Part Deux)

Gospel.

Recommended Posts

Well, the first one withered away and died a horrible, painful death so I decided to make a new one. So guys, broskies, homies, dudes, sons, brothaz, chump diggity dawgs, what are your favorite non-metal bands? I've discovered many a new band anyway, so updating now seems good. There are some genres that I can't stand and would never listen to. Chances are those are the ones that will be missing. Herrp de-derrp.

Rock
1- Set Your Goals
2- Paramore
3- A Day To Remember (sue me)
4- Coheed And Cambria
5- Shinedown
6- Flyleaf (sue me)
7- Pillar
8- nine Inch Nails
9- Fireflight (As you can see, I like my fair share of Christian rock and metal groups.)
10- Avenged Sevenfold (Yes, I like them >.>)
11- Foo Fighters

Pop
1- Madonna (80's Madonna, yo)
2- Katy Perry (yes, I like Katy Perry, son)
3- Yoko Takahashi (Did the theme for NGE...the best theme ever.)
4- Nami Tamaki... (f*** off already)

Country

Yes. I like a few country artists :P. It's a Texas thing I guess >.>.

1- Garth Brooks
2- George Jones
3- George Strait
4- Jim Reeves
5- The Judds

Jazz

1- John Coltrain (Just cool. Great improv stuff. Classic.)
2- Buddy Rich (What drummer doesn't like Buddy Rich >.>)
3- Joyce Cooling
4- Olesya Star
5- Papa Grows Funk (They are a Funk band...but whatever. It's good.)

Honestly, that's all the non-metal stuff I listen to. No rap, dub, hip-hop, techno or anything like that. Just good, soothing music that I like to listen to when I'm not in a "metal" mood. These were all taken from my collection of albums btw. I'll take some recommendations as well.

Metal will always be my passion, but I don't limit myself. I listen to a ton of music outside of the metal scene...

Vali - Acoustic/Folk stuff.
The Offspring - Alternative rock.
Secret and Whisper - Post-Hardcore-ish.
KiD CuDi - Hip-hop/rap.
OFWGKTA - Rap/Hip-Hop.
Lupe Fiasco - Hip-Hop/Rap.
Many various techno/industrial artists.
There's a ton more, but this is what I've been listening to the most lately that's not metal.

John Coltrane is spelt "Coltrane".

I've always been partial to Jelly Roll Morton and Wynton Kelly, though recently I've heard a lot of Keith Jarrett's stuff. Fats Waller is one of my favourite Jazz musicians of all time. In fact, generally the 30s and 40s have a lot of my favourites - Glenn Miller, Fats, later Joplin works, Morton etc. It also warrants mention that John Lee Hooker was born around then.

You also cast Paramore and Avenged Sevenfold as rock, that merits mention for the fact that any sane government would chemically castrate anyone who did that to prevent them from spreading such heinous lies to their offspring (if they would be likely to have any in the first place, which they wouldn't).

I also mention the fact that this thread insults the 40% of the music forum's regular posters by suggesting that everyone likes metal. They don't. Most people don't. I'm not saying YCM is an accurate representation of society, I'm just saying that it should perhaps be treated like one even if it isn't; that way everyone is catered for.

Arguing over whether Avenged or Paramore is rock or not is based on interpretation of their music, mostly.

Probably because it's outcast as a genre IRL.
