Βyakuya
A classic. I'm reading it currently, and it is turning out fine. How do you all think about it?
WTFauKorean
romeo and juliet... stupid young people... this has only one theme and thats stupidity, anyone who thinks this is about true love and not about the insolence of youth probably should rethink their lives.... Glоrious
It paved the way for most love stories today. I loved the ending, hated the rest (I loved Tybalt though. Too bad he *SPOILER*)
Blake
One of my least favorite pieces of literature I've ever had to read. And, no, I do not hate Shakespeare. I love Hamlet and like Macbeth. It might be that it is so built up by culture that I expected more, and it fell short. I'm a romantic, and, for me, it just did not cut it. The Holly and the Ivy
I cannot really make an opinion on the original text because my English teacher made us read the first scene and then got us to watch the original film, the the one with Leonardo DiCaprio (terrible film). I've also read a manga version which was O.K.
Yang Xiao-Long
I've also read a manga version which was O.K.
You have the manga version of Romeo and Juliet as well? I had friends of mine (major otakus btw) who begged me to borrow my manga Romeo and Juliet. They were only disappointed in that it was Americanized. Stupid left to right >.> Romeo and Juliet was actually quite fun to read. That is, until your English teacher makes you memorize multiple passages from different Scenes and Acts and puts it down as a Quiz grade.

GenzoTheHarpist
overrated. Its good but I don't understand how this got to be one of Shakespeare's most famous works when imo he wrote many plays surpassing this one.
Phantom Roxas
How was that a bad movie?
"Fetch me my longsword, ho!" *He reaches for a gun himself* I have to admit that I see no problem with trying to modernize it, but I think that they really have to stick to the script and have it make sense. Case in point, the Kenneth Branagh version of Hamlet. Anyway, I understood that the play was a commentary that one should never fall in love to quickly. It worked the tragedy fine, and I felt that having the characters make stupid decisions was the whole idea of it. I agree that it's overrated though. Hamlet is so much better, but this really just gets popularity because it's by William Shakespeare and is a tragedy of love.

This is like taking a bugs bunny cartoon and turning it into a boring lecture. The filming was absolutely terrible (so much zooming). The characters had no clue how to speak Shakespearean. The 2 families, Montague and Capulet, were basically gangs. They tried to make it look cool, but helplessly failed to amuse me. And the balcony scene in a pool? I don't think so. Βyakuya
Meh the movie is not bad. I like it. But in the play itself, so far Romeo is kinda acting like a dickhead.
Quiksilver
I absolutely HATED Romeo. After everything that goes down, he tries to pin it all on fate. Stupid fool, you got yourself into this mess by yourself.

GenzoTheHarpist
Macbeth is another one I never really saw the appeal in. Personally, I think he was a better comedic writer than a tragic writer.
Alastar Rainford
Romeo and Juliet was okay reading through Macbeth now but don't really like it as much. what got me to like it better was RomeoxJuliet not the sucky Romeo+Juliet movie

crashedwin
the problem with romeo and juliet was that they felt TO MUCH! it is good to love and be loved in return, but you can't let it take control of you. if either of them just took a moment to cool off and make a rational decision... well... it would be a very uneventful and long story... it makes a good story, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth with the characters... Juliet was supposed to fake her death on the wedding day 2 days away and the pope was supposed to send Romeo a letter explaining what was happening. Juliet goes and appeases her dad, who then moves the wedding up a day, leaving no time for error in the plan. Then the letter the pope sent got returned, never making it to Romeo, so he actually thought she was dead, couldn't handle it, then killed himself out of depression. Holy crap how do I know that
it wasn't the pope, it was friar Lawrence, and he sent the letter with friar John, but he couldn't get through to the city Romeo was in because he was accused of having the plague. If Romeo could have kept a level head after Tybalt killed Marcutio, then he wouldn't have killed Tybalt and been banished from Verona, and if Juliet didn't cry so much, then Lord Capulet wouldn't have made her marry Paris so soon. They should have been more rational. I know that because I love english class.
