Time Core [IC] [Started]

Alex gave Aiden a kind of "are you stupid" look, then quickly changed his look to something of that more apologetic. "Demons don't do well with holy grounds. This was one of the few holy cites available in our area." He then looked straight ahead. "Groceries are here! Remember; we MUST make them last, people!" Alex then began putting them up. He wasn't much of a people person, but he still was able to tolerate them. Having said that, it wasn't his favorite thing to do...

"Attention everyone!" Alex said loudly, trying to catch everyone's attention. "P.A.S. Meeting, now." Alex's voice was stern and worried. He wasn'ts ure how he was going to tell the group the news.

bryson watched as the rest of the demons fled away from the barrier

"yeah you cock sucks cant houch this b****!" he shouted as he was dangling a bag of cheetos from his chip box when alex silenced him and called a meeting..

*when was the last time a meeting was called? maybe never?* bryson thought
Bryson knew meetings we're called every now and then but they were quite rare to be called, because alex was person who kept much of his thoughts to himself.

He was unofficially appointed sort of like a leader being the first to find the church he accepted others who seeked refuge.
Due to the small amount of people in the community (some people came and went) everyone was pretty involved during these rare meetings, no matter how unimportant of unintresting the topic was to bryson he still took part.

he pulled up a chair and put his feet up slipping casually out of his blade runners with out his hands. box of chips still in his hands he passed around a bag to each person. as he opened his own bag of cheetos...

"finnaly... sfo wotszahp?" bryson quized mouth full

Leon ground his teeth. He was right. He was really starting to hate being right. He followed them inside and helped pack away the groceries that they had managed to bring back. Alex looked a bit stiff in his movements. He noticed the scar across Shade's cheek. Wait were those... stitches? They were. Band-aid stone ages.
"God, save me from these people and their recklessness." He pointed at Shade. "You. Unless you want that scar as a memento, let me take them out and put some real medince on them." He popped his kit and drew out the sterilizer and sealing cream. "Next they'll want me to sprinkle some herbs one their foreheads and shake a few bones to chase away the demons," he muttered. "And Alex, I'm coming for you next."

Alex laughed at Leon. "Relax now. I have something that greatly concerns us all," Alex said. "First off, may I introduce Aiden. He saved my life, and is in need of a home. Considering we're the only safe place for now, I gave showed him here. Which brings me to more important matters at hand...We are the only safe place. For now."

Alex's face went grim. It darkened with sadness, yet anger. "The barrier that protects this church is fading. We have three months to find the Time Core..." Alex said, a bitter taste in his mouth he coulnd't swallow. "Oh, and Leon...I think you might be able to use this." Alex then handed a peice of Demonica flesh to Leon. "Might come in handy for one of your inventions one day."

Shin was sitting down in the supermarket. He was in the produce section. It was a big supermarket and some lanes had additives that would keep it fresh longer. So there Shin was, munching on a carrot. He had just found one of the many back doors and this one lead to a whole stock of produce still fresh. So that was why Shin had a basket of vegetables plus other items, to make some vegetable soup later. But he always liked carrots and had to stop to eat one. He was just glad that the Demons hadn't decided to search the wilderness. He knew there were other survivors out there, and Shin's emotions told him to find them. But his logic told him that finding them might lead Demons here, and then his place of peace would be destroyed. So he has been waiting here. His carrot was finished and he started to walk back to his ship. He had decided to name it, The Survivor.

Leon shuddered. He had been fearing that would happen. But he had hoped that it was just him being negative. But Alex managed to but his fears into words. If the barrier failed, they were screwed. Where was the next closest church? Churches weren't common in the cities anymore. Would there barriers be failing too?. Now he really need to finish that detector. Or find a way to make the holy ground portable. Maybe land could be consecrated for a short period of time. But did that require a priest? His breath started to get short and shallow.

Alex handed him the piece of flesh. It was a lifeline. He quickly switched his line of thought from the bleak future to something he knew well. Science. He could always fond solace in science. He gave it withering look. What in the world would he do with a piece of meat? Cook it? He took carefully on a strip of bandage. The medical part of his knowledge kicked in.

"Let's see," he muttered. "It looks... human." He shuddered a bit. "Appears light skinned, possibly Caucasian. Slightly discolored." He tipped it over. "Odd coloration to the blood and flesh. It stinks too. Where in the..." he stopped. "This is demon flesh isn't it? It's demon flesh!" He grinned widely. "Do you know what I could do with this? This is just what I needed!"

He stopped himself and carefully wrapped the sample in the bandage with reverence. This little scrap could save some lives. Later, he would but in the freezer box to preserve it. With the barrier failing, it was imperative that he finished the device. Or at least had a working prototype.

after explained the enitire danger of the barrier of the church going down, bryson had only one thought in his head.
*what exactly is the timecore? i mean how do you know we found it, when we find it?* bryson asked himself as he threw away his empty chip bag out of the church
*if we dont know what it is then whats the point on looking for it when we can just try to look for another church that wasnt destroyed? Im sure there'll be another one intact if we just move out atleast maybe 40-50 miles? wouldnt it be worth the risk to look for new home before we find a complete solution that we dont even know, if it exist or not?"*

he didnt know who to ask becasue alex seemed really keen on finding the time core not a church maybe aiden? or leon? he wasnt sure who to ask but he needed some answers

On the way to The Survivor, Shin saw a Cat lying down near the entrance of the store. He said, "Hello Cat. Have you seen any Demons lately?" It was a black and white cat and looked very skinny. Shin took out a can opener and got out a can of tuna. He had planned to eat this tonight, but how many cats still existed. Well, lived. The cat ate it all up and Shin smiled. He went over to his plane and Cat fallowed him. When he went inside, Cat fallowed. He activate the flight program and went up into the sky. He only had less than half a tank of gas left and needed to find more.

For the past few days, he had been loading as much food as possible because he knew that he would finally need to look for people, and that meant he would as much as possible. This supermarket might not be able to be safe in a few days. He went up into the air. On the ground his scanners picked up movement. Shin was right. Those Demons could somehow sense his movement and were moving toward his supermarket. Shin shut off his sensors because he didn't want to see what would happen.

His scanners picked up other signs of life and buildings a few miles away and so Shin started to head in that direction.

Aiden was sitting near the barrier staring at all the demons going bye. He was watching them while he cleaned his beam pistols. Once he finished he heard Alex's announcement about the barrier failing. We got three months to live before demons have nearly complete control of the world. For some reason this just sounds like a good book. He completely forgot that his sword was still covered in demon's blood from earlier. "I wonder if that Leon character could use this along with the demon's skin that Alex brought back. Aiden took out a bottle from his bag, and slowly pushed the demon blood into it. He walked back inside the church looking for Leon. "Leon I have this demon blood that I recovered from my blade from an incident this morning, and I was wondering if you could use it?"Aiden said holding up the bottle.

Shin started to fly by the building when he saw an unusually large amount of demons surrounding a church. Perhaps the demons couldn't enter the church. But how could Shim enter the church when there were Demons surrounding it. So he started rotating around the church. And then he activated his weapon systems and targeting system. And then he only had so many weapons. So how many Demons would he kill. Five. So he fired his weapons. And then again.

The first wave hit 4 Demons and the second hit 1. They Demons collapsed to the ground and the other Demons fled the area. But one of his shots hit the roof of the church. "Drat!" There was no use worrying. He couldn't change the past. But he decided that he might as well make use of the hole-it was big enough for The Survivor to land on the roof and Shin could drop down into it through the hatch in the bottom. But he didn't drop inside the church yet. First he yelled out.

"How is everyone doing? I'm sorry for blowing a hole in your roof. But the Demons are gone now."

Faced with the possibility of solving the chief problem with his detector and putting over Alex like a mother hen, Leon took his price to the Leon-Cave. Alex probably preferred it that way. With a packet of Cheetos gripped securely on his mouth, he carried his first aid kit cradled to his chest. True, nothing was likely to happen to on the short walk to the room, but still...

Medicine wasn't his focus. He fixed machines and software, not bodies. But to learn how to fix the tools, he had to learn how they worked. He unwrapped the hunk of flesh and ran one of his verifiers over both it and his hand. While it was made to check the composition of metal and plastics, but it was not that different from the scanner doctors used. The good news; there was a difference between his body and the demons. The bad news; it was in mostly in the blood and the his sample was a bit lacking in that department. He frowned. Maybe that was for the best. He would not have appreciated a blood chunk of flesh. Thank God for small favours.

Aiden brought the bottle. Thank God for large favours too. "Yes!" he cried out, dashing out to grab the bottle before dashing back inside. Again, he lacked the proper equipment, like a blood analyzer, but those water purifier he found would work, after he rigged it to prevent the purification process. Cut the inside of his arm and collected a few milliliters of his own blood to run through the other purifier. Before his results could start to scroll across the little displays, the whole church rocked. In an instant, his Voltcutter and Flux gun were out. He wasn't about to kick the bucket yet, not when his research finally had a positive direction to head in. Heads were gonna roll. It just wasn't going to be his.

Alex smiled as he saw Leon getting excited. This was good. This meant he was on to something. Which meant they might have an adventage.

BOOM!

A hole in the roof of the church appeared. Not good. That definitly would screw with the barrier. Alex could feel it. He saw someone flying above. The Demonica could fly now?! He quickly pulled out his gun. He normally hated resorting to guns, let alone violence, but what choice did he have? He aimed when he heard the voice say "How is everyone doing? I'm sorry for blowing a hole in your roof. But the Demons are gone now."

Demonica were ruthless, merciless, people. This had to be another survivor. That seriously pissed off Alex. "What the hell do you think your doing?! Get your ass in this church, NOW!"

"Leave him out there!" Leon said venomously. His fingers tightened around the grip of the Voltcutter. Seriously, blasting a hole in the roof of someone's shelter and announcing that you got rid of the demons. Who did he think he was? He was like that spy character from one the classic movies. What was his name again? Double-O-seven? He pointed his Flux gun at the hole in the roof. Now, someone who knew him causally, like most of the other P.A.S's, would think you was reclusive and nervous. Those knew him better knew that walking out into a swarm of demons was a cleaner death than messing with his projects.

"Give one good reason why I shouldn't shoot you now and use you in my experiments?" Small fragments of roof tumbled down from the hole. The main sanctuary, the place most of the P.A.S tended to gather, was littered with chunks of roofing. One of the large pieces had crushed a bench. He was lucky no one was underneath that mess. The dust that made his eyes water weren't helping his mood either. "If I find out your little stunt messed with my project, so help me I will sever your limbs, flay your skin, gut you, then cut off your head and mount it and your assorted remains on a stick as demon bait. God forbid you caused any damage to my equipment."

Aiden started to laugh a little bit as he saw everyone getting so upset. He is now starting to realize that everyone in the church are not properly equipped with weapons to battle the demons. How could he have found 3 guns and a sword, but they have found nothing. As he looked up, and saw the hole in the roof from the strangers attack on the demon. Some people just don't care. Aiden stood up from his nice seat with a great view of demons, and climbed on to the top of the church. He was looking for the tarp he got from the last town he was in. Then, He began to cover half the hole to provide some shelter if it started to rain.

Shin looked down at the people. He was worried. They all appeared to be angry. But Shin calmed down and called out, "Has a Demon every talked? In my attempted slaughter of Demons, I accidentally hit the church. If you look outside, you will see that there are 5 Demons destroyed, unless their bodies disappeared." Shin paused and then said, "If you will listen to me, I can give you supplies, but if you will not hear me out, and will not see the hole for what it is, then I will leave." Cat jumped down from the hole and fled into a corner of the church. Now I have to come down. Let's just see what their answer is.

"Demons speak when they spread their fear," Leon countered. His gun lowered. Just a bit. It wouldn't be too hard to snap it back up and take the shot if he had to. "The church is holy grounds, dedicated to God, and it is protected by a barrier demons cannot pass." Leon all but spat at him. He took a deep breath to cool down his anger a bit and forced himself to holstered the gun. The worst of his rage shimmering instead of flaring, he continued in level tone. "If you had waited a bit before going all gun hoy on them, you have seen that they disintegrate if they touch it. The rest of them loiter around the gates hoping we come out. The ones we don't pick off from the windows generally leave in the morning."

Leon sighed. In the end, the interloper was still human, and better than a demon. He had just better hope the barrier was still sound after all damage. Maybe he should just go test out his theories with the detectors in peace. Electronics were more predictable. The cat made a plaintive meow from the corner. "Just get down here and talk to Alex or something."

Shin looked down at the crowd of people. They looked hungry and scared. The man who spoke to him didn't look like he wanted to kill him. But a barrier? That was news. That was the reason the demons hadn't attacked. How did the barrier work? Shin didn't care. That was never his job. It had been... "I will need someone to stand down there as I toss down some supplies."

One of the people went down as Shin threw down some cans, carrots, meat, but no unhealthy products. He called out, "I have more food, but it will take time to retrieve. I would like to speak to this Alex. He is your leader I imagine? Well I would like to speak to him." He threw down a ladder and continued, "If you wish, you can bring one other person with this Alex. You can bring weapons if you wish."

Shin figured that they wouldn't bring weapons and if they did-well, he could defend himself if they attacked. But he didn't think they would.

Alex stared directly at the stranger. His blood was boiling. He could feel the barrier weakening after that. "Do you realize what you've done!?" Alex cried out. "You've endangered us! This place's holy barrier was weakening already! You've hurt it even more!" Alex was pissed. This was NOT good. "I'm Alex, and whoever the hell you are, get your ass down here, NOW!" Alex had never once went off like this. His anger at this incident seemed to be much worse then an encounter with a Demonica...

Shin thought about this for a second. This person, this Alex was angry. Apparently, the barrier was fading. And he just wrecked it more. But how? Why? "What is the barrier?" Shin asked, "How does it work? Why is it fading and how come a hole in the roof is progressing it?" Shin's logic told him to leave, or at least pull up the ladder-but no. He would remain calm. He said, "My name is Shin. If you want to work together, that's fine. If you want my supplies, well" He shrugged, but the people probably couldn't see it, "That was my job in the past anyways. If you want my ship, again, a problem. I came here because my ship is running out of fuel, energy. It will only last a week at the rate I was going. So my ship isn't really hijack able. Though, I suppose, you could keep it here as mounted turret. If you have any scientists, maybe they could use some of the Demons I killed, as long as they aren't destroyed. I suppose I am rambling now." Shin looked straight at Alex, "Though I would like answers to my original question."

"The barrier is the only thing keeping us alive. It's a holy barrier that no Demonica is aloud to pass through. It's power is withering like a rose. In other words, it's power fades over time," Alex answered. "It'd be nice if you helped us clean up this place. We could use some supplies, but we won't need your ship. And as for scientists, we don't have any. We do, however, have a young inventor. By the way...he's the jumpy one who hates you more then I do at this moment. So good luck getting on his good side."

"Come now Alex," Leon called from his cave as he took a quick inventory of the damage. "I do not hate this young interloper. I merely harbor an intense feeling of dislike that borders on loathing with just a tinge of disdain."

His projects had indeed been disputed. The purifiers were okay; merrily whizzing the blood samples he diluted in pure water as findings danced happily across the small screens. The wiring for the sensor matrix he was toying with got scrambled and would need reworking. The barely functioning cooling unit he effectually found to store the flesh sample had toppled over. Crashing into said matrix. At least the Cheetos were speared. It they weren't, he might actually have killed him.

He stalked out of the room, tapping at a hand-held device, working some calculations. "You realize that your stunt may have set me back several vital hours? I actually planned on sleeping tonight. Now I will have to forgo essential and rather pleasant REM sleep instead to try and get back on track." Leon gave him a withering look, his eyebrow raised. "Getting on my 'good side' will not be easy."

What supplies would you need, I have just about any normal supplies. I was hiding out at a supermarket and have lots of food. I also have sleeping bags and other items of interest. As for the inventor, he can use the Demon bodies, but I should think you both might want to come up here and we can talk civilly. You can look through my items to find things you might want." Shin responded to alex. He seems less angry now. Of coarse, his anger makes sense. But he never explained why the barrier exists. There might be others somewhere. I might have to check out other places of worship. Perhaps another can hold demons back. "if you do come up here, please bring Cat with you."

through all this mad ramble between the newcomer, leon and alex he realized asking them abou the time core was not the best idea so he went to aiden for answers

"pst aiden, i feel like im in the dust here... i think you know about the time core more than i do, what is it exaclty? how do we know we found it?" he asked silently to him not wanting anyone else to know his curiosity or his incompetence.

Shade sat back on one of the pews, watching everyone bicker between themselves. The fight between Leon and the newcomer proved interesting. Alex won't hold grudges, so he's no fun. He rubbed the cheek that had been slashed open, stitched and then given a bandage around the rest of his head. It still hurt like the mother of all Demonica, but it was lessening. But this stupid bandage! It itched all over! He resisted the urge to scratch - just.

Bryson leaned over to the guy who helped him earlier - Aiden, I think - and whisper something - but Bryson being Bryson, it still sounded like an antique racer's engine, back in the days of diesel fuel. It was blurred with distance, but Shade still managed to pick up the gist of it. "What is the Time Core? How do we know if we've found it?"

That got him to sit up straight. The Time Core was probably one of the most - no, the most avoided subject in the church. Leaning forward towards the pair, his ears set themselves on precision listenening mode.

"No, no," Leon tisked, shaking his head. "You see, when you are attempting to make amends for seriously damaging someones home, you don't insult their living conditions," he started counting off on his fingers. Shin really rubbed him the wrong way. "You don't insult their manner of reproach you for your grave mistake. You also don't risk their lives by trying to force them to leave a place of safety. I is also a good idea to repeatedly apologize until they except." He nodded at the tarp that Aiden had partially covered the opening with. "Helping Aiden cover the hole would have be a nice plus for you too."
