The American Civil War, a five-year war which began in 1861, was, as per the name, a civil war in America, between the Southern Confederate states, and the Northern Union states. Multiple factors led to the buildup of the Civil War, such as Harriet Beecher Stowe publishing her book [i]Uncle Tom's Cabin[/i]. But the event most commonly perceived as the starting point is the election of Abraham Lincoln as President. The South, believing he was an abolitionist, began to secede from the Union, starting with South Carolina, in 1861. The South continued, and elected Jefferson Davis as the Confederate president.

This RP begins on April 12, 1861. Confederate forces are attacking a Union military installation located in South Carolina. You are either a Union or Confederate soldier.

Personality: Ryan is a very curious person, and wants to explore the world. Ryan is an alcoholic, and has been since he was 16. Ryan has an issue dealing with people who talk about him behind his back, and those who make jokes about him. Is capable of being outside for hours on end. Believes that if he dies he must have deserved it. Rarely goes to his Church because he feels embarrassed by his past actions. He is a mother's boy, and trust her to keep all of the secrets he has told her over the years. He supports slavery, but not to the extent in which slaves are beaten for not following orders.
Bio: Ryan was born on December 4th, 1842 in a small town just East of the Mississippi River. Ryan grew up on a farm with 4 brothers and 2 sisters. When Ryan turned 15 his father passed away leaving Ryan to manage the family farm. In the Spring of 1859 Ryan's family got hit with scarlet fever. Two of Ryan's brothers died from it leaving the Holmes family shorthanded. As this happened Ryan began to drink, and within two months was labeled an Alcoholic. Ryan tried to get people to come work for him at the farm, but most quit within the first week since he wasted the money on Alcohol. Ryan watched as the states began to leave the Union, and citizens of the states were asked to sign up for the army. So, Ryan chose to sign up for the Confederate Army hoping that what he would experience would teach him a lesson.
