Spoon
And a ton of people agree with you, too. I've been brought up that video game music has no lyrics (with the exception of One-Winged Angel or the Galaxy Final Boss Themes, which just use a choir for dramatic effect), and that "actual" music has lyrics. I don't care if Still Alive and The Poet and the Muse were made FOR video games, they have lyrics nonetheless, and I will never consider them video game musics. Then again, I guess we can agree to disagree. Also, what video game was Space Oddity used in? I've been playing it a ton on RB3 and I'd love to know. THIS IS GROUND CONTROL TO MAJOR TOOOOOM~
Yeah, I guess we can agree on that part Ground Control is played during the End Credits of Alan Wake... it definitely fits and gave me goose bumps while hearing it. In my opinion, the game was at least Game of the Year, and one big chunk of that did go to the soundtrack, the other chunk to the story and atmosphere. I mean, seriously, if you want to connect gameplay and an awesome and original song, you can't go much further than this: DANGER, could contain SPOILERS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-09plCa530 (Starts somewhere around 3:10; Link for Chilled ) Easily one of my favourite scenes from the game... so... epic! Headmaster Monokuma
Sorry for my lack of activity. I haven't been very active in general.
I loved FRLG's Champion battle. I personally hated DPPt's and RSE's music, but FRLG and HGSS have to be my all-time favorites. And as much as this'll shock you, I do not have music from Gold/Silver/Crystal. Not a single track. Nor do I want it.
I can't blame you. As much as I like the music in that game, I can't really say it was great. Now the HG and SS tracks are pretty good, but whatever. Anyway, I am going to start compiling video game music, and eventually make a list of my favorites. I meant to do it a while back, but never did, so I figured I may as well, until then, I leave this. I think Shadow Hearts is one of those. Really strange organ tunes, choirs, weird voices and things that sounds like monstrous, out of sync beating hearts... it's strange, but it fits the game so perfectly that you forget everything around you. One of the best RPGs for the PS2 (at least the first 2 of the series), with grown-up humour, disturbing imagery and an interesting cast of characters. Spoon
Yeah, the Tales of... series had some pretty fancy music themes, even though I only played Tales of Vesperia and watched Tales of Symphonia. I already stated that Motoi Sakuraba is definitely one of the industry's best, though he lacks a bit of variets here and there (especially in the newer games). @Dark: Can't keep up with that, you even got DuckTales and Eternal Sonata (and by that a very good taste)... but you're lacking the most important song of all of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Zz30HFFNDI Unbelievably funny everytime you listen to it... I did hold one of those fat scientists for 3 minutes just to hear the full song Humour in video games should play a bigger role, just like back then in those good old Adventures... we need more games that don't take themself serious, just like Twisted Pixel shoots them out all the time

However, Eternal Sonata, I have and I adore. I'm always glad to see someone else who does as well. May I suggest you look in Tales of Symphonia if you want more VGMs?
Eh, give me some game titles and I'll think about it. Mario Party [franchise] and Ghost Trick were added to my queue list, though. I'm about to listen to the two Ghost Trick songs Ice posted to get a taste of the soundtrack. They better be good. And I may have a lot of games and a lot of music, but I still think Clair is a bigger addict than I am. I'm her awesomesauce apprentice, though. EDIT: Ice, that is a pretty sick soundtrack. I'm going to have a lot of fun listening to that.
Clair
I like to think that I'm the biggest VGM nut here, tbh. I might be wrong, but I doubt it. My videogame list is way too long, but I think Dark has it, For instance, I just had to get rid of some Okamiden tracks to make room for Ghost Trick on my iPod. Damn you, song limitations. D': Oh, and I agree with Dark in saying that Okamiden's tracks aren't really that good, still looking forward to the game, Also Dark, check out the Tales OST. I really recommend it as well. Dark
I need some game titles before I can check the OSTs. If it is RPG music, it kind of HAS to be good, or at least from what I've noticed. And you definitely are. You got me into video game music. Changing my opinion about ANYTHING is a feat in itself, but you've made me absolutely obsessed. And I still don't know how, but I'm glad you did. :

Î’yakuya
Epic Mickey? It reminds me of Kingdom of Hearts. Kinda puts the exaggerated and epic version of Mickey Mouse.
