Spoon
First club I ever join... but this one looks like it's worth it. I'm just a sucker for video game music Name: You can call me Spoon *cough* Favorite Video Game Series: Final Fantasy Favorite VGM piece:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxZlJGtFGcw&feature=related
Favorite VGM composer: Nobuo Uematsu (Yes, I know, it gets boring... but if you ask for favourites, you have to expect that) Any trivia on VGMs?:
"'Rose of May' is written in a natural minor scale. Its initial notes are actually the progression of the first four pitches of any natural minor, making the theme a convenient way of learning how to play such scales for any given key."
Will you be active?: As long as my scedule at the university allows it, hell yes Even if it doesn't sound like it: I know more VGM than just Final Fantasy... though a lot are still japanese RPGs. It's the sound that lets us remember key scenes, tunes that are inseperably bound to certain events that make us love, cry, shiver in fear. It's pure atmosphere, and does so much to make it worth keeping them in mind. Certain tunes like the Super Mario Bros. Theme or Tetris Music are known all around the world, something that connects, as music always did. As I said, I'm a sucker for VGM, a game without good music can still be a good game, but it can never reach hights like those which have. So long, Spoon

Headmaster Monokuma
Name (optional): Professor Hershel Layton Favorite Video Game Series: ...Well, that's a hard question. The Professor Layton series of course. Favorite VGM piece (Can be put into vid format):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_3HtzKjgd0
Favorite VGM composer: This actually a hard one. For me, Tomohito Nishiura, is certainly high on the list, but we can't forget Koji Kondo. Any trivia on VGMs?: No trivia. I'm not much for looking up random trivia. Will you be active?: Of course, video game music is excellent for activity. Name (optional): Professor Hershel Layton. What is your level for VGM appreciation (good, great, awesome, outstanding, amazing)?: ...Okay, a little odd wording you used there, but I'm not sure how I would have worded it. Generally, my respect for the music goes deeper then plot. Amazing music is something amazing to me.~ What work have you done for VGMs on this site: Well, Dark though about having me handle the music thread, but it was handed to Clair and Alfred, although Clair couldn't do it. Generally, whenever I find a good song I post it in the Mushroom Kingdom. Beyond that, there really isn't much you can do for it here.
Shradow
Name: Shradow Favorite Video Game Series: Fire Emblem; it's an awesome strategy RPG with some damn good music. Favorite VGM piece: Here's an example of FE's damn good music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL79isTPIJU Favorite VGM composer: Koji Kondo Any trivia on VGMs?: In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the music that plays during Mario and Luigi's final battle with Fawful is the same as Popple's battle theme. However, the Japanese version's music is the same as in the battle against Cackletta. Will you be active?: Yup.

Shradow
8-bit music!
Spoon
8-Bit was before my time Still, it's impressive what you can pull off with a bare minimum of options. The tunes get more iconic that way too. Everybody knows the Super Mario Bros. Theme... in an instant. Proove of that was taken during "Symphonic Legends" in cologne (I was there, live). When the moderator asked if the audience knows that tune, 2000 people responded in unison. Today, you have those whole orchestras that make some epic tunes, but nothing is better than the good old bleep-bloop-bleep if you want to create something for everybody to remember
Shradow
It was before my time, too, (I think it was before most everyone here's time) but that doesn't mean we can't talk about it. You just can't beat the classics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jQRGLoiiek http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWhyH4338Mk
Mehmani
Co-Leader App What is your level for VGM appreciation (good, great, awesome, outstanding, amazing)?: High. I listen to VGM almost all the time and play VGM on piano. What work have you done for VGMs on this site: Former Host of the Video Game Music Station. Contributed a lot, I might add, until inactivity killed it. Name (optional): Alfred Favorite Video Game Series: Pokemon. Has such nostalgia for me. Favorite VGM piece (Can be put into vid format): Song 1 Song 2 Song 3 All piano. Can't beat the most emotional instrument. Favorite VGM composer: Junichi Masuda, Kondo and Yokota. Any trivia on VGMs?: Koji Kondo claims that Vangelis inspired him. Will you be active?: Yes. I think Uematsu is overrated, although he undoubtely a genius and very influential. Final Fantasy fans just rant about how brilliant he is and ignore everything else. Except for that piece of junk up there Maybe it's just not my taste (which can happen in music), but I don't like it... and you can't argue that THIS is the one and only Megaman tune anyway Skullman Stage is also pretty cool, somehow those guys of Capcom always knew what good music was. To my shame I have to admit that I don't know the name of the composer(s)... but hey, it's awesome nontheless. Even in the newer games (Megaman 9 and 10) they not only kept the graphics how they were, the music also has the same style... kind of epic if you ask me. 8-Bit was awesome, even though I wasn't really there when it was big

The Star Ocean franchise is one of my personal favourites (This song is so insanely awesome, it'll burn your ears out), and don't get me started on Resonance of Fate, those rocky themes are just plain awesome and are perfectly fitting for those action driven battles.
I personally like Solar Man's music the most out of the 8 Robot Master themes from MM10.
From those choices, I'd agree. This dark, edgy startup, and this feel of an 80s gangster movie, then the shift into the more "trance-like" version... builds up the tention quite well, and prepares you for this [s]cool[/s] hot boss. Mehmani
I love how Spoon chose the most overrated Megaman song ever released as a favourite. Megaman is famous for having a multitude of wonderful songs, from the poetic to the driving. I would share but it's getting late here in England and I'm going to the market tomorrow morning (to buy retro games, actually).

I just recently downloaded the demo of Megaman 10 via Xbox Live... and discovered that I'm unable to play the game. I could not defeat the boss (I think it was that Baseball Man's Stage you could play), hell, I could not even face him! 2D is just not what I'm used to. I like Gex and Spyro, but I hate the old 2D Marios (well, not hate, but I'm just unable to play them), I love Tekken (and I'm fairly decent at playing it), but I'm unable to do a halfcircle-back-punch in Street Fighter... you get the idea. @Reset: Ahhh... finished the game not too long ago... I shed some tears on that song... so... wonderful.
Mehmani
In terms of console quality, Nintendo are supreme. Sega were good too, but the only non-Nintendo/Sega console that ever meant anything to me was the PS2 (for Shadow of the Colossus, Okami and Rogue Galaxy). I will always remain loyal to Nintendo for the nostalgia, the glorious moments of my childhood they have given me.
