Yeah, I watched the first few episodes and he is constantly referred to as a genius.

He seemed to be generically flawless and thats just blah.

That other dude, the kendo guy? He would have made a better protagonist with Taiki as simply The Ace who he is trying to overcome.

Sigh... The only problem I see with Taiki is that he is competent, most people want to see an underdog who rises up and becomes great but it is so over done that most of the time people find another character to like more, Taiki is a great character and works great with Shoutmon no one would pick and underdog to save the world and the growth of someone competent into someone great is something that makes Xros Wars perhaps the best digimon anime there is. Taiki was the perfect protagonist for Xros Wars because more than a burning spirit that should get you killed every time they went with someone with ability who can way the options and make the correct decision for the situation, it is kinda the opposite of the reason I stopped watching frontier the main guy there just seemed like an idiot who has the golden apple of luck shoved up his butt.

Why? It's a good series. Sure it's very different to the others, but that actually makes it stand out.

Becuase i consider Data Squad/Savers the end of Digimon... since it was the last season i watched and the last to be dubbed in America.

to me it was the perfect end to a great anime series.

and i despise watching anything with subs so unless it gets a dub im not going to watch it

No dude, he was like, every cliche anime character, ducktapped into one.

He was like what would happen if you sawed Wesley's legs and gave him a digivice.

Hes super smart, super kind hearted, the thing about characters is that they usually need a flaw and that flaw can't be that they are simply to great.

A thing that Taiki instantly assumes when you learn that he is pretty much this super genius who is super helpful and is not only able to pretty much do everything but do it better then people who actually work and practice at it.

Its hard to make me want to punch someone 5 minutes into the first episode, but well, congragulations Taiki.

Besides the whole not an underdog thing is completly shot down when you acknowledge that Shoutmon is pretty much a random villager who wants to protect his land.

So even with his super genius and blah blah blah he still has the underdog hero traits with him.

You don't need to be an idiot, their are a lot of really smart main characters that work just fine.

They just you know, also have depth?

Like Kujou from En passant, super negative genius with magic powers. He's competent and he's interesting.

Or the famous chessmasters of Lelouch and Kira who had moral failures instead of normal flaws.

Hell if he was even just unnaturally naive but still a super helpful genius it would have been fine. But no, that would have been interesting.

He is pretty much Superman without the character depth, or the superpowers.

Unfortunatly thats mostly conjecture since well, I stopped watching in a few episodes so maybe I missed some things but well yeah.

I kinda think a chessmaster who suffers from being so hopelessly optimistic that (while he is able to craft extremely handy plans easily) he pretty much will fall for any trick because he believe in common decency so much that he is overtly trusting would actually make a really interesting character.

I had a FREAKING 22 PARAGRAPH ESSAY HERE ON WHY TAIKI WAS A GOOD MAIN CHARACTER.

And then...

I NAVIGATED AWAY.

GAAAH. GAAAH. GAAAAAH.

...I'm going to need a moment.

The only good thing to come out of Data Squad/Savers, was Gaomon(my favorite Digimon....besides Veemon).

Savers is my absolute favorite season, and I will write a 44 paragraph essay on the matter if necessary.

1.) A 22 word paragraph...wow...impressive.

2.) I don't really think that's necessary ^^;
