Your Top 5 NDS Games

MarbleZone

Recommended Posts

I thought of doing this in Videogames, but Flame Dragon requested in his section's rules that this sort of threads be made here.

Anyway. The DS is my favourite console and I don't even own a physical one. What I'd like you to do is post which are your 5 favourite games for the DS (and justify each pick briefly if you can).

I plan on spending most of my indoors free time playing it starting next month, seeing as my younger brother monopolized the PS3, so I want suggestions for some good games. ;)

Obviously, if you don't play the DS, refrain from posting - starting this thread in my own turf gives me some privileges. :P

~ Chrono Trigger

Yeah, you've probably heard of this game for SNES. However, they ported it to this lucky handheld, meaning you get to experience one of the best RPGs of all time... anywhere. I love this game because of the soundtrack, the extensive story, and the interesting battle system. Check it out!

~ Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

Another RPG game, but unlike the serious nature of Chrono Trigger, this game is hilarious. It's a bit childish, but I strongly suggest you pick it up if you are a casual RPG player. Fawful alone makes this game worth purchasing.

~ Rhythm Heaven/Elite Beat Agents

Two of my personal favorites, these games revolve around keeping the rhythm via touch-screen press and the like. The music in both is very catchy, and I definitely recommend them for a quick pick-up. You don't have to get these games if you don't want to.

~ Kirby Super Star Ultra

Classic Kirby platforming, in over seven "sub-games". This game oozes classic Kirby, and is basically a port of Super Star, with some added features. It's easy, but Kirby is always good fun.

~ Mario Kart DS

You need this if you don't have it already.
That is all.

I like this thread. Normally I would put all three Layton games in one spot, but I won't do that this time.~

1. Professor Layton and the Unwound Future: Let me just say this game was well done. I wouldn't say it's for everyone, but puzzle fans would love it. Thanks to the type of gameplay it has, the story is able to flow easily, and I have to say that it is easily my favorite in the series.

2. Mario Kart DS: I don't know, despite how insane the AI can get, I always have fun playing. It's a game I love, and probably will for a long time.

3. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky: Now, I wasn't a huge fan of Sinnoh, but this game is one of my favorite Pokemon games. I just really like it, the story is nice, and the gameplay works.

4. Mazes of Fate: This game isn't really a great game, but I like it. It's a nice little RPG game, and it's easy enough to control, even though I think the enemies can be a little unbalanced at times.

5. Kirby Superstar Ultra: This game was a well made port, with one of my favorite additions to any port ever. Plus it's a Kirby game, and Kirby is fun. :D

Bowser's Inside Story would be on the list, but just wasn't high enough.

1.) Pokemon - meaning, any Pokemon game. Pokemon is easily one of the major selling points of any Nintendo handheld console, the online play is pretty sick, and it never leaves you bored unless... well, unless you get bored. =P

2.) Super Mario 64 DS. If you loved Super Mario 64 on either the N64 or Virtual Console, this one is better. Improved graphics, more Stars, minigames, but most of all, BETTER CONTROLS. <___<

3.) Mario Kart DS. Nothing else needs to be said.

4.) Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. It's an RPG game, sure, but one of my favorite games of all time. On my recent vacation, I beat the game in roughly eight to ten hours of gameplay, and it was a serious blast. If you like Paper Mario, you'll LOVE PiT.

5.) Kirby Squeak Squad. Need some non-Mario games, right? The only Kirby game I own, and it's really fun. It's kind of short, but after you have 100%ed the game, you can challenge yourself by beating all the levels again with only a certain power-up, or do a no power-up run, et cetera.

• The World Ends With You - Brilliant story, and a diverse cast of characters. Gameplay is demanding, but fun. Shows off what the DS is capable off.
• Final Fantasy IV - One of the few Final Fantasy games I have ever beaten. Excellent story, wonderful cast, and great gameplay. It was probably one of the few games that showed me how cinematic that DS could be.
• Pokémon SoulSilver - Diamond and Platinum are fun, but I feel that HeartGold and SoulSilver can be called the definitive Pokémon games. They keep the feeling of the new games, while still returning to the old regions. Unlike DPPt, it developed the menu to take advantage of the touch screen, and that was a change I hope is continued for quite some time.
• Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days - This was a game I felt that managed to keep me interested when it needed to. It helped tie together parts of the story of the series, though I will admit the gameplay was a bit uneven.
• Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - I want to be fair and say one game per franchise, and while I haven't finished it, I'm enjoying it. However, the changes from Wind Waker give me mixed feelings. I love how easy it is to sail, but picking up treasure is annoying and the awesome Ruto are discarded for some lame mailman. Other than that, I enjoy it a lot.

- The World Ends With You - Read Phantom Roxas's
- Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - Easily the best of the M&L games. Playing in both overhead view and 2D sidescroller is fun. You'll easily come to love playing as Bowser much more than M&L. Like the other games, they're funny and have a good plot. And there's Fawful. The last sentence should be enough to make anyone want the game.
- LoZ: Phantom Hourglass - Read Phantom Roxas's
- Magical Starsign - It's your standard RPG, but it's good characters, plot line, I can't say anything exceptional about it, but it's definitely fun.
- Scribblenauts - You get to use your creativity in the game, make almost anything you want to beat every challenge. It'll keep you entertained for sure, and there's plenty to do if you're a completionist.

- Pokemon Games. Hellyes. I lost my SS recently, it only had every single Pokemon I've raised and trained since Ruby/Sapphire came out. A good 1800+ hours... gone. FML bro.

- Legend of Zelda: PH/ST. Both great games. I love Zelda. ;D

- Kirby: Squeak Squad. It got a bit boring after I got everything. It was still fun as hell though.

- Final Fantasy III. It was really hard. I liked the challenge though.

- Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. Just my personal preference, it wasn't spectacular but it was hella fun to play another Golden Sun game after all these years.

1. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. It made me literally cry at the end because of the story. Unfortunately something happened to it when I was on a trip and it's now MIA. FUUUUU-

2. Pokemon. Especially SoulSilver/Platinum. It's fun to play when there's nothing to do but beat the snot out of little trainers on the side of the road.

3. Spectrobes. Quite fun actually. It got me addicted by mining/excavating.

4. Dino Master. Space filler actually, as the first three are the ones where I actually had quite a fun time. Don't get me wrong, this game is still quite fun.

5. Brain Age. Filling space again. However, it makes sure your brain is still working. It's quite the smart game xD
