Frybread002
Long story short, this is an manuscript from an manga that I'm creating. This is one of the characters background, and I got creative with. So please enjoy it. Enjoy. Rate. Comment.
Past: Part 1 When I was only16 years old, I belonged to the Fireseed family - Who were capable bending the earth out will. Although I technically belonged to a much more bigger family -The Apache. As a tribe we were known for our fierce reputation to fight. Our velocity on the battlefield was so fierce, that we were giving the nickname “Apachu”, literally meaning “enemy” for some by most of our enemies. However, after years of fighting the government of Yam, a country that came to our land, and constantly demeaned more land. The Apaches finally agreed to move on a reservation, a strip of land where we could live in peace. In all honesty, it was more of a political scheme. To steal more of our land, and too admit victory over us. At the time, we desperately needed peace, and most of our people were suffering fatigue from many years of war with Yam. As a result of fighting a superior military, and number, Yama was mainly concerned about having much control of land, maintaining it, and building a bigger army. So the reservation system was the only choice left compared to fighting them to extinction. After turning 14, I proved myself as a “Man.” I was out hunting with the other boys, and after returning with nothing but a field mouse, I was told “You have a chance to prove yourself. Do it now, or regret it.” I could never forget that day, or moment. It was winter, my people were facing starvation from the lack of deer or elk disappearing from the prairie, and hills - A result from people of Yama over hunting, and their construction of roads. In that entire of hunting, we only got enough to last us throw the seasons, but when we needed the food the most, it was gone. My “chance” was to raid our nearest rival tribe, The Ken-yuen’s (Ken-You-In). Ever since we were put on a reservation, we were placed more than 100 miles from the nearest tribe, and settlement. “To keep the peace among your tribes, and our own citizens of Yama.” was the reason. Leaving the reservation without permission was punishable by being held in the stockade, and depending on what you did while you were out, proper actions were taken. Sometimes executions. Suffering from food shortages, and the game being hunted to extinction itself, we knew we had to raid the nearest settlement. However, we feared…I take it back, MY people feared what would happen if we left the reservation. So the question came “Why not get permission?” I personally scoffed. First of all, Yama looks down on us, and the only time we ever do leave, is when we have to do “official business” with them. Other than that, we’re left on our own. Second, when we settled down on the reservation, we were promised to receive daily rations, and other supplies. But that was an empty promise. So we don’t bother with asking Yama for anything. So as I was saying, our only choice was to secretly leave the reservation, and raid the closet settlement more than 100 miles away. The only problem, is that Yama sends a scout regularly to check on us. So as a ploy, we told them that we left to go hunt again, and we’ll be back within a week. Hehehehe…That was the biggest understatement we made. “Please!! Don’t go!!” my Mother begged me. At the time, I took her for granted, and all I ever do when I think of that day, was how much I never left a proper good-bye. “Enough Mom! You know as much as I do…This is something I must prove to myself!!” “Who?! You know as well as I do, your father would’ve made you stay!!” replied my mom, who started to weep. “If only he were here, he would’ve take you’re place instead…” “But he’s dead!! And standing there crying won’t help us get through this winter!! Would it MOM!!!” I shouted in all my hatred. “Especially mopping about his worthless dead carcass!!” I shouted again, and for the last time, I saw my mother’s face. Crying. Crying because of the words I said. But most of all, crying because I made her cry. This happened on the morning we left for the raid. Our plans were simple; lie that we’re on a hunting trip, travel more than 100 miles to the Ken-yuen’s, raid them, and take as much food, and supplies we can, and travel another a hundred miles. All within week. So as anything raiding party I seen as a kid, and as ‘Men,’ we had to say our prayers to our family and loved ones. I already blown my mom off, and my dad was already dead. So much for my family, but I still had to say ‘farewell’ to Sophia. To put it simply, she’s my child hood sweet heart, and we’ve been together for…well I haven’t counted the years, but that matters is that she’s mine. But our conversation was short. I told her watch over my mom, and the village (as she was the strongest girl in the tribe, and could even kill a deer with own hands ß---Not kidding!!). We made progress, but the storm impended our original plans. It took us 3 weeks to get there, and when we did, and the storm was letting, so it was a good sign. So it was safe to say, that the raid was successful. Killed 4 men, and stole 2 horses. Unfortunately, I had to kill a woman. She was being rather stubborn, and stabbed me in the stomach. At the time, I thought I seen her hugging a pouch, but it was her son. Today, he tries to kill him, and who could blame him. But that’s a story for another time. Since it took a week to get back home, I should explain some things. Truth is, my father was actually the ‘Chief’ of our tribe, and he handled most of the political affairs with Yama, while our elders handled warfare. But I wasn’t born yet when he died, and all I’m told was that he died from illness. And if you remember the conversation with my mom, how I said ‘It was the last time I seen her’ or whatever. The only reason I said that, was because when we came back to our village. All we seen was smoke and fires coming from it.
