"Converting Art into Art"-Contest

Recommended Posts

It is said that art can be anything. In my opinion, even a mere card for a children's card game can be art. Your job is to prove it!

[spoiler=Rules]All YCM rules apply.

No Spamming, Flaming, Complaining about the results and so forth.

Cards are to be PM'ed to me. Cards posted here are invalid.

The cards used for this contest have to be new. You cannot use cards already posted.

[spoiler=Modalities]This will be a 5 (subject to change) round contest.

There is no limit to the number of contestants, I'll adjust the number of those who'll leave us accordingly.

I do not judge by a specific rating. I'll just look if you accomplished the target.

To join, just PM me your card for the first task. You do not have to post here, but you can do so if you don't want to make your card just now, but remember, in the end, the card has to be send via a PM.

The first task will be announced immediately, you can start with it at any given time.

[spoiler=Entry Fee]None. Donations are welcomed, but not necessary.

[spoiler=Prizes]1st Place: 500 Points, 3 +Reps

2nd Place: 300 Points, 2 +Reps

3rd Place: 100 Points, 1 +Rep

[spoiler=Judges]Only me. If you feel qualified, you can PM me, but I doubt I'll want any other judges this time.

Art #1:

[spoiler=Subject #1]VanGogh-starry_night.jpg

It's Vincent van Gogh's famous painting "The Starry Night", made in 1889. It shows the beatiful night sky of Saint-Rémy from his sanatorium room window. Your task is to look at it, and create a card. You can use the picture itself or the name of the picture, but you can also use any other picture or name you like and feel fits. There are no other requirements. Art cannot be restricted like that, "use" this painting and create your own work. In addition, provide me with your thoughts on the card (via PM), and why you think it relates to the painting (or doesn't relate at all).

The deadline for this task is the 21st of January, 23:59 (Central European Standard Time).

Art #2:

This time, you have the choice of 2 pieces of art. And no, we won't do paintings again. This time, we're digging deeper. To interpret a painting is quite easy (at least for our purposes. The next one's going to be... music.

[spoiler=Subject #2]#1:

#2:

Pick one of those beatiful, classic piano scores and make a card of it. Same as last time, no restrictions on the card type, and I want your thoughts with the card, via PM.

The deadline for this task is the 29th of January, 23:59 (Central European Standard Time).

Art #3:

Short things short, here's your piece of art:

[spoiler=Subject #3]Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

- By Robert Frost

You know what to do ;)

Deadline is... whenever both entries are in.

Good luck to all contestants :)

So card has to relate to the painting?

As long as you can explain the relationship (even if it's the complete opposite) to the painting, I'll let it count. The explanation is kind of important here, because I can't look in your brains... though I'm pretty sure I don't wanna look at that anyway.

With only 6 contestants, I don't really know if it's worth holding the contest :(

So... I'll give you some choices:

a. Expand the deadline (by most likely 1 week)

b. Start with fewer contestant, resulting in fewer rounds (with 6 it would be 3 rounds, with 2 contestants leaving every round)

c. Cancel the contest after round 1 (I'll give you the results tomorrow and we're done with it)

I'd like to join, but I'm not sure I understand what the contest is about^^

It's really simple: Look at the picture provided by me and the great master van Gogh (He did little to nothing except for making it... it's hard work to present it the right way!). Let it inspire you. Make a card. Write down your thoughts. Send that card with your thoughts to me. Done :)

Oh, and since the majority (almost) seems to favor option B, the deadline will end as planned. But don't worry if your card is a little late, I won't judge them today anyway ;)

Spoon when shadow is done posting his card pleasse judge lol

The deadline is reached in 1 hour. I'll write Shadow to the contestants.

Shadow, you have 24 hours after the deadline's over (25 horus in total) to send me your card. Once the card is in (except if it's in the next 2 hours, I could use some sleep), I'll start judging. In the case of Shadow participating, 3 players will bite the dust in the first round ;)
