Yu-gi-oh: Nightmare of the Virtual World.

Aren sighed. How much longer did he have left in his life? He didn't know. There was no countdown for him to watch. It could happen at any moment. He wondered about the Virtual World, expecting to meet sudden darkness at any moment, expecting to meet death. In reality, the sickness was tearing at him. Here, he didn't feel it, but still, he wouldn't live much longer. He couldn't live much longer. His life was ending, and yet it was hard to accept that. He checked the Montage Dragon card in his deck, his trump card. It usually saved him from tough situations, but this situation was different. It couldn't save him from something within himself. He continued to wonder, searching for something to do.

Teslarc smirked. "You can ask her when she gets here."
Rhythm, who had been watching the whole thing, ran over to Kyza and hugged him. "Kyza! I was so worried!"

Desna grinned as he boarded the platform. "I don't care about your little power play! I just want-" Desna stopped, as if he had realized something, and facepalmed himself. "Dammit! I've been so enraptured in running my colony that I forgot about the mission!"
Vicky frowned. "You sure did, you twat!"
"Like you have done anything!"
"I was turned into a virus by the same people that tricked you into gathering up anyone with fighting skills in the Colonies and leading them to the slaughter! Only V-Sec is in a position to stop Trihsder now, but he can easily take over the Colonies himself!"

Which is exactly what Trihsder was doing. He appeared on every viewscreen across the Colonies just as some of his soldiers uncloaked themselves. "Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I am Cireneg Trihsder. As of a few nanocycles, I am now your beloved leader, and, as my first act, I am implementing a massive re-education program." Several huge machines erupted from the nearby rock in each Colony and affixed themselves in various places. "All you have to do is enter the machines, and let the subroutines inside turn you from your boring self into a happy soldier for my growing empire! If you don't, then you will be taken into custody by my soldiers. Is that clear?" Soldiers started escorting programs into the machines as more machines appeared and started turning the buildings and other constructs into ships and factories.

"Wait... Vector-A is coming HERE?!" He looks stunned, like he had just been slapped in the face, barely responding to Rhythm's diving hug but patting her lightly on the shoulder, "No need to worry Rhythm, I'm fine, seriously. I feel better then ever before."

This much was very true. Despite being a little rattled, he looked prouder in his movements and actions, happier, less moody but not over the top with smiles and cheerfulness, just the same expression as someone who achieved some sort of peace with themself.

He studies Teslarc thoughtfully, his brow furrowing as he glances around himself.

"Ok, so you say Vector-A is coming here, but what do we do? Just sit and wait around for her? And how long is THAT going to take anyway?"

Desna asked Carmine. "Alright...umm...I didn't catch your name..."
"Carmine." Vicky interjected.
"Carmine. If you would load up a couple companies of your V-Sec troops into my gridship, Vorpal Blade, I would greatly appreciate it. I know we got off on the wrong footing, but I'm sure our alliance will work out, but we need to trust each other. If it makes you feel better, you can have the commander of those forces look after me and make sure I don't try anything, even though I assure you I will not."
"Before we do that, could we pick up some friends of mine? They are closer to us than the Blade."

Teslarc looked at a nonexistant watch and told Kyza. "She'll be here by the time your voice stops cracking! I don't know! But she will be coming!"

Kyza gives a rather unimpressed tut, deactivating the duel disk that was still upon his arm, letting it return back to his Identity Disk which he secured, checking his deck was safely reshuffled and re-stored with the holster on his hip. Accessing the same holster, he drew his blaster, readying himself to be prepared for Vector-A's appearence. He wasn't sure how to handle the virus's appearence again, given it was her fault Aki had been derezzed. Sure, Teslarc told him she was fine, but he still felt anger towards the virus for it.

That was the unusual feeling. He'd been angry in the past, but usually by now he was mad at himself, hating himself and wallowing in depression. This was differant.

"Alright, fine.... I'll wait."

'That's the problem with you newbies, you never think outside the box. I don't need to sacrifice my own troops for this mission. When I have my own personal army of monsters' she stated, drawing a new card and the Hacked Multiply. 'If the war strategems Sigma gave me prove anything, is that most wars in this world are averted by children's card games. So, are you ready, I can allow certain new aspects to yur cards, for a while anyways'.

Desna countered. "Yes, but why settle on one duelist when you can have a few hundred? Besides, Trihsder thinks in terms of manpower as well. We both aren't used to this kind of warfare. Sadly, Trihsder prefers to utilize the maximum amount of manpower possible, regardless of ethics. Besides, why do you have the real world equivalent of a division's worth of armed military police if you aren't going to do anything with them?!?"
"I hate to say it, but he does have a point." Vicky grudgingly added. "Plus, I think his plan is to go all Trojan Horse on the Colonists."
"Damn straight I do!"

'Then go for it' Carmine replied as her image began to appear on every holo screen in City. 'Greetings citizens, how are you on this fine day? Enough of that, my name is Carmine, and as of now I am taking command of City and soon to be all outlying colonies. I am now hereby administrating a state of emergency of City, and suspending all privilages of all current mods and admins. Now, I require the services of all military forces of City to prepare for war. Carmine out' she finished, disengaging the holo screens. 'I love the smell of napalm in the morning'.

Desna saluted Carmine, grinning happily. "Me too...Boss..."
Vicky gasped. As far as she knew, Desna had only called 6 other people "Boss" in his life, including the legendary Itsu Solace. Since Desna had no respect for authority, him calling someone else his superior officer was a grand term of endearment. Of course, Carmine probably wouldn't know the true significance behind the gesture, but it was obvious that she had had some impact on him.
"Speaking of control, where is Sigma? What happened to her?"

Brave and Harald looked up at the holoscreen that had suddenly appeared to broadcast the message to the city. When it was over, Harald frowned and touched a finger to his chin. Brave looked between Harald and the spot where the screen had once been, his expression thoughtful, although not as blatantly so as Harald's. With Dragan looking for Jack or the other Signers, they didn't have the third person to bounce thoughts off.

"Strange," Harald said finally. "The recent events seem to have this world's leaders involved, but yet they did not give specifics as to why a state of emergency's been called. Things have become more and more chaotic...and yet nothing has come to the forefront to us yet."

'The matter iof Sigma's location is not up for discussion, but know she is well protected and safe. Why, did you like her?' Carmine inquired, but was cut off by a card flickering down to her. She stared at it before adding it to her deck. 'It seems the machine finally finished Toxico, pledge and all. Excellent, I can't wait to use this in a duel' she thought. The troops would soon be arriving and this was going to be hell. It made Carmine feel giddy all over.

"Well..." Kyza says bluntly as he gazes up to where the monitor screen vanishes, looking quietly to Teslarc, "It seems things are shifting into high gear then. I don't think we really count as military, but at least we know now to be alert. Whyever Itsu dragged us here must be going down soon. First we deal with Vector-A, then the ball is in your court" He walks a little closer to Teslarc, still glancing around him to check for any signs of the sinister Vector-A, "So can I ask, how come Itsu never mentioned her sister?" pointing slightly towards Teslarc herself, "and by sister I mean that in the loosest term of how I'm her brother, etc."

Jack continued riding in his Duel Runner, but then he stopped suddenly, a thought entering his head. "I can't do it alone." he thought, as a portal opened up in front of him. He rode through it, transporting himself in front of two people: Brave and Harald. "I need your help." he said, holding his hand out, as his duel runner suddenly grew two seats. His eyes exhibited the coloring that the Dark Signers had, but he still had the power of the Crimson Dragon inside of him. He was a hybrid signer, just like Rex Godwin was. Even though he accepted the temptation of the darkness, he did not let it control him.

"Because it's time to defeat Zarkus once and for all."

Brave stared as Jack seemed to appear out of nowhere. Harald's eyebrow raised, confirming that he found the situation just as ironic as the younger member. The very man Dragan had gone to look for had come to them instead. That was sure to cause some mild problems later, depending on how long it was until Dragan gave up and tried to come back. Harald made a mental note to contact Dragan at the soonest possibility.

"I don't believe we need extra seats," Harald said, noting the expanded D-Wheel. "As we do have our own D-Wheels. But perhaps you could fill us in."

"Hurts to not be the ones in the know," Brave sighed dramatically, a small grin present regardless. "Who's Zarkus?"

"You see those moons in the sky? They are viral entities summoned by the aforementioned Zarkus. They will destroy the entire virtual world if Zarkus is not stopped. To do that, we must defeat him in a duel. However, he has several cards in his deck that grant him absurd amounts of Life Points, so we need to challenge him to a tag duel in order to even stand a chance. Zarkus is the previous main GM of the virtual world along with Sigma, but fell into the temptation of darkness and became evil." Jack said, closing his lengthy exposition.

"Any further questions?"

Brave considered what they had been told, but shrugged. "Nope, I'm good," he said. Harald nodded solemnly. The former GM of a virtual world was behind the viral moons?

"And I trust you know where he is?" the team leader wondered, studying Jack's eyes with an impassive expression. He could see, even without the power of his Rune Eye, that something had happened to Jack, and considering they had been told about him falling off a skyscraper and not dying, it wasn't too difficult to guess what may have happened. What concerned Harald was how far Jack could be trusted in such a state. Now was not the time to worry about that specifically.

Jack suddenly opened a portal behind him, and one in front of wherever Dragan is as well. "Follow me." he said, walking into the mysterious portal and entering into a mysterious cathedral like area, where a large throne could be seen, a throne that Zarkus was sitting on. "Zarkus. We have come to finally defeat you once and for all!" Jack declared, as he placed his new deck in his duel disk.

"Okay, Jack. But let's play with some... interesting rules." he said, opening up a console with a new ruleset in it. "This duel will be quite climactic after all."
Duel Type: Marathon tag duel.
Both players pick a deck master (make your own effects).
Both players start with 8000 Life Points.
The duel starts out as 1v1.
When a challenger loses, the next person tags in. They share a Graveyard, RFP pile, and an Extra Deck with the previous loser. They can also draw from the remaining deck of the previous loser instead of their own at the cost of 500 Life Points.
The person who tags in can choose to keep the old deck master or replace it with a new one.
When a person loses, Zarkus gains 8000 Life Points.
"Do you accept?" Zarkus said, activating his duel disk.

Dragan had found no sign of Jack, but soon in front of him, a strange portal appeared, far too close for him to steer out of the way. When he emerged on the other side, he blinked, spotting not only Jack, but also his teammates. In addition, they were no longer anywhere he recognized, but an odd place that looked like a church or cathedral. Harald and Brave gazed around with solemn expressions.

"Marathon Tag Duel?" Brave wondered, and upon hearing the rules, he grinned. "Just like a WRGP match, but against only one person," he mused, glancing at his teammates with an eager smirk. "I'm up for that!"

"Deck Masters, a bit of an interesting concept, but one we can work with, no doubt," Harald agreed. "I will gladly join in."

Dragan nodded in agreement. "Same here," he said. It didn't take the Team Ragnarok duelists long to decide what order they'd tag in. Their entire WRGP strategy had always worked before. The only question was where Jack would fit in with the three.

(Huh...that does sound epic)

Zarkus picked his deck master - Dark Soul Psycho General, as a stereotypical general rose up from the ground, eyepatch and all. "Now, which one of you will go first?" Zarkus said, as an 8000 appeared over his head and a red aura surrounded his body. He drew 5 cards as well as his sixth one, showing that he was going to take the first turn in the duel. Jack looked over at the Ragnarok trio behind him. "...what's our plan?" he said, waiting for their response. He didn't look like he himself wanted to go first, but was prepared to nonetheless, both of his marks emitting an eerie glow.
Deck Master Effect:
Once per turn, gain 700 Life Points for every "Dark Soul" monster in your Graveyard. Also, you can Special Summon any "Dark Soul" monsters from your hand or Deck. If you do, take 1000 damage for every card Special Summoned by this effect. The ATK and DEF of the Special Summoned monsters becomes 0 until your opponent's next End Phase. The Special Summoned monsters cannot be Tributed, except for a Tribute Summon. During either player's turn, you can replace this card in the Deck Master Zone with any "Dark Soul" from your hand, Deck, or Extra Deck. This is treated as a Spell Speed 3 effect, and if this card is Chain Link 2 or higher, you can activate the effect(s) of the replaced Monster in response to the effect of this card.

"Our usual rotation is Dragan, than me, than Harald," Brave reminded him. "We'll go in that same order, and you should probably go either before me or before Harald," he continued, grinning. "That way, if all of us lose, Harald has all the options from the Graveyards of the three of us, and can use them to their best capabilities," he explained.

Dragan nodded and stepped forward. "I'll be the first challenger," he declared, glancing back at the rest of the team for a moment. He considered very carefully, then withdrew a card. "My chosen deckmaster will be Polar Star Beast Tanngrisnir," he said.
Whenever a "Polar Star" monster is destroyed and sent to the graveyard, Special Summon 1 "Polar Star Beast Token" (Beast-Type/EARTH/Level 3/ATK: 0/DEF:0) to your side of the field. No damage is inflicted when this Token battles.
Dragan slid the rest of his deck into his own Disk and gazed towards Zarkus. "Ready!" he said.

Zarkus grinned, and looked at his hand. "Haha! Excellent! Such a marvelous starting hand~" he said, as his field spell card zone opened, and he inserted his first card. He quickly sent it to the Graveyard, activating yet another one. His body began to glow a dark purple color, as his Life Points multiplied by 10. "I activate Viral Core Alpha and Viral Core Beta." Zarkus smiled, drawing yet another card as his Life Points decreased. "I summon Dark Soul Requiem. By his effect, I can Special Summon up to 2 more copies of him from my hand or deck." he declared, as the two skeletons with bone flutes appeared.

"The Symbol of a dark lord, come forth. You will feed the souls of the dammed to the Dark God! Synchro Summon! Dark Soul - Symbol of Destruction!"

Suddenly, the 3 skeletons reappeared as they climbed from the depths of an abyss, as Zarkus' Life Points dropped by 5500. "I activate the effect of my monster, Summoning my Dark Soul Requiem's and decreasing the level of one of them by 1!" he said, the synchro summon animation activating once more. "Now I Special Summon Dark Soul."

"The Souls of the Dead will shield your allies! From the very pit of hell, show them the power of the Dark God! Synchro Summon! Dark Soul - Doom Reaper!"

Both of his monsters vanished, merging into a single, white orb as the orb flew into the sky, causing a portal to open. An angelic figure descended to the ground, standing behind the cathedral.

"Light and Darkness, converge into a single point! Bathe the Souls of Darkness in your hallowed light, and rob those who defy your power of the light of their souls! Accel Synchro! Divine Dark Soul - Light Bringer!"

The angel flapped his wings once as a truly massive amount of energy surrounded the area. "I set two cards and use the effect of my Psycho General to gain Life Points. Turn end."

Jack looked over to Dragan, holding a card in his hand. "With this, his Life Points become meaningless. Do not worry, Dragan!" he said, not showing the card to them just yet. However, he also suspected that Dragan had something up his sleeve as well, but only time will tell.

Dragan was floored, his mind working to figure out what had just happened. Not a single step in Zarkus' move had clicked, but that may have had more to do with him not explaining what he was doing. Odds are it was legal, though. Now he had a different predicament: how to get past that monster.

"It's my turn!" he said, drawing. He didn't want to admit it, but he was worried. On his first turn, Zarkus had gained an obscene amount of lifepoints and brought out an incredibly powerful monster. He looked at the card he drew and nodded to himself. "Since my opponent controls a Synchro monster, I can Special Summon the Tuner monster, Polar Star Beast Guldfaxe!"

He slapped the card onto his disk, and a beast monster appeared. (Lvl 4, 1600/1000) "Then I'll set a monster in defense position," he said, placing another card on his disk, although this one materialized in defense. Then he took two cards from his hand and slid them facedown in the rear slots of his disk.

"Then I put two cards down. Turn End," he stated.

Zarkus drew one card from his deck. "I activate the effect of my Dark Soul! Once per turn, I can Special Summon him from my Graveyard. But don't blink. I can Tribute a monster I control, inflicting 2000 damage to you." he said, as the skeleton became a white orb, flowing into the palm of the giant Angel-demon. Light Bringer tossed the orb towards Dragan, likely damaging him. "Turn End." Zarkus declared, not even bothering to attack with his monster. He knew that Dragan didn't stand a chance against him, but wanted to see what the man was capable of, even if it meant toying with him.

What a prick.

Dragan grunted as his LP dropped to 6000, but he stared back at Zarkus defiantly. "My turn!" he announced, drawing his next card. "I flip my Polar Beast Beast Tanngjnostr!" (Lvl 3, 800/1100) "When this monster is switched to faceup Attack, I Special Summon one Polar Star Beast from my deck in Defense, and I choose Polar Star Beast Tanngrisnir!" A monster identical to his chosen deckmaster appeared in a defensive stance. (Lvl 3, 1200/800)

(Response? If not...)

Guldfaxe shimmered and transformed into a quartet of green rings, and the two other monsters passed through the rings, dissolving into three stars apiece and forming a line. Thunder crackled as Dragan recited:

"When the door to Asgard opens, the Ancient War God will raise up his Magical Hammer! The very earth itself will shake as he appears from a roar of thunder! As he completed the chant, the green triangular rune glowed, replacing the pupil of his left eye. "Synchro Summon! Descend, Polar God King, Thor!" (Lvl 10, 3500/2800)

From the sky descended an enormous warrior, clutching a hammer fit for a being of its size. It stood solemnly as it descended, watching Zarkus and the more powerful monster.

"I activate Polar God Thor's effect! I negate one monster effect on your field, and Thor gains that effect!" Dragan said. Thor's eyes glowed and it pointed a finger, launching a bolt of electricity at Light Bringer.

(If no response, and assuming you don't object to Team Ragnarok using the anime effects of the Polar Gods...)

"Which means my god gains the ability to prevent you from activating effects when it attacks! Polar God King Thor, attack his Light Bringer! Thunder Pile!"

(no responses)
Zarkus looked up at his monster, wondering why Dragan would attack something stronger then his own. Light Bringer's hands began to glow a bright white color, as he reared his fist back, punching the Polar God's fist. The attack created a reaction, letting off a large amount of energy that obliterated the ceiling of the cathedral they were in. However, due to Light Bringer's superior ATK, it began to push Thor back, destroying it if Dragan didn't have something up his sleeve. "...what do you have planned?" Zarkus said, shooting a suspicious glare at Dragan.
