Abel was sitting on the side of the road with his Eevee, stroking its fur gently as he pondered where he should travel to next. He'd been to the small town called Sienna and knew he wouldn't be able to challenge the Umbra Town Gym with only his Eevee.

"You know," he remembered his friend, Gerard, the Gym Leader of the Umbra Gym, telling him years back. "An adventure with a Pokemon is a journey of the soul. Just take you where your heart leads and you'll find where you're meant to be."
Though it was sappy and completely unlike Gerard, he was right, so Abel stood and looked down to Eevee. "Come on, bud. We've got to go through the Red Forest to get anywhere close to being in Russett City for the first Gym. And I've heard Fernando is a specialist in the Rock Type. We can find Grass and Bug Types in the Red Forest!"

Eevee walked down the path with Abel, walking toward Route 1 and the entrance to the Red Forest, hoping to catch some rare Pokemon.

As Abel headed into the forest, a faint buzzing noise could be heard. Just then, a young man with spiky brown hair with a yellow patch and goggles ran past him in the opposite direction, with electricity shooting from the yellow patch at a swarm of irate Combee, led by a Vespiquen. "For the love of Arceus, I only wanted to collect some of your honey! I thought I did the introductory dance correctly and everything!" He screamed. He finally turned around and cried out. "Alright, Chu! Let's do this! ElecNet!" A web shot from the yellow patch and hit the entire swarm, which look weakened from the repeated electrical attacks. Then, a pulse of electricity ran through the web and zapped all of them, including the Vespiquen, who retreated with what was left of her swarm after shaking off the web. However, a little female Combee had gotten stuck to a bush and had been paralyzed. The young man frowned and pulled out a Pokeball, throwing the device at the Combee and catching it. He then set his backpack down, pulled out some healing items, and sent the injured Combee out. He tenderly healed her wounds, and the healed Combee gave him some honey before she went to go check on her hive one last time.
The young man noticed Abel as he put his stuff up. "Hello! I'm Daniel Andrews, also known as 'ThatGuyWithThe Goggles' on TGWTG.mon." Daniel reached out his hand, but as he did so, the yellow patch in his hair started to move.

Abel stared in awe at Daniel's yellow patch of hair for a moment before shaking his hand. "I'm Abel Ezell. Also known as Abel Ezell. I've never heard of a 'ThatGuyWithTheGlasses,' sorry. Are you important or something?" Eevee looked up at the yellow patch and barked tenderly, thinking that it wasn't exactly as much of a part of Daniel as it seemed.

"I'm just headed toward the Red Forest to get to the Rocky Pass into Russett City. But I have to cut through Umbra Town first," Abel said, picking up Eevee. "Me and Eevee here are from Umbra Town, so I was thinking about stopping in and seeing Gerard, the Gym Leader. We were inseparable as kids, but he grew up to become a Gym Leader and I'm just a beginner Trainer!"

Abel was really excited about meeting other trainers since he was only a beginner himself, and the League was brand new, so he really wanted to explore the region with Eevee.

Daniel noticed Abel was looking at the yellow patch, so he looked up and said softly. "It's alright, girl. He won't bite." He whispered to Abel. "She's a bit shy, especially around strangers." He put his hands in a cup where his hairline started, and a little yellow fuzzball crawled into it, causing his hair to flatten out and look normal. The fuzzball opened her four blue eyes and uncurled her four blue-tipped legs and looked up at Abel and his Eevee. "Bachu?" The little Pokemon wondered, looking a bit nervous. "This is my partner, Chu, my Bachuru! We recently entered the Lotus League too! I'm from Castelia City, the biggest city in the Pokemon World! That's in Unova, in case you didn't know. Anyways, I was challenged a few months ago by a user on my website by the name of 'GLJV' to come here, so I decided to hold a contest on what Pokemon I would use, and little Chu here won! I am, obviously, a big fan of Bug Pokemon! I collect them and keep them in my flat, alive and well, of course, but I've never actually been on a journey with any of them, so here I am!" Daniel suddenly gets a great idea. "Hey, I know! Wanna be traveling buddies?"

"Sure! I've got no one besides Eevee here, and he's pretty energetic too!" Abel said, Eevee bouncing playfully in his arms. "There are some really rare Bug-Type Pokémon in the Red Forest, or so I've heard. I actually was going in to catch some Grass-Type Pokémon in preparation for the Russet City Gym!"

Eevee bounced playfully out of Abel's arms to attack a falling leaf when a boy with jet-black hair and golden eyes stepped out of the shadows.

"Made a little buddy, have you, Abel?" Rylan laughed, pulling out a Poké Ball. "We're all big boys here. Let's battle, here and now, you two against me. Double battle?"

Daniel replied to Abel. "Oh, I just came from the Red Forest! I've been catching the Bug Pokemon there. In fact..." He pulled out a Pokedex and showed him his statistics. "Not meaning to brag, but I have seen 39 Pokemon, caught 17 of them, and have 5 Pokemon, including my new Combee friend, in my party. Plus, I have 9 in storage. Three of them evolved, so that's where the 17 comes from." As Rylan came into the clearing, the Combee returned. "I'm gonna name you...Beatrice!" The Combee, now called Beatrice, was very happy about her new Trainer, and so was Chu, who chirped happily at the new addition. Daniel returned Beatrice to her Pokeball before noticing Rylan. "Sorry, I was nicknaming my new Combee. What were you saying?"

Rylan's eyebrow raised a quarter of an inch from annoyance. "We're all Trainers here. Let's battle, two-on-one. You're little bugs and his Eevee against my Hitomoshi and Pikachu!" Rylan threw two Luxury Balls up into the air and out popped Hitomoshi, the Candle Pokemon, and Pikachu, the Electric Mouse Pokemon. "Let's go, here and now."

"Pika-a!" his Pikachu cried, charging the air around it with electricity.

"What?" Abel said, turning toward Rylan. "Does this really need to happen right now?"

Daniel grinned. "Well, this sounds like fun! Go, Percival!" He tossed out a Pokeball, which released a little blue beetle. "Kabu Kabu!" The beetle cried out, psyching himself up for the coming battle. Daniel turned to Abel, leaned close, and whispered. "Don't worry, buddy. You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours. Besides, the dude doesn't realize he's outnumbered. I have 5 Pokemon, and you have 1, so that's 6 against his two. Plus, I have a ton of Potions and Full Heals. You can count on me to help you out against this little prick!" Daniel turned back to face Rylan, going back over to his position as well so Abel and Daniel formed an isosceles triangle with Rylan. "Alright, ya little punk!" Daniel cried out as he put on his goggles and his headphones, setting the music for a good fight song. "Time to teach you not to randomly creep up on people!"

"This isn't exactly a fair fight, is it?" A voice said, climbing down from a nearby tree. "And you've frightened away the Chobomaki I was chasing. Two weeks of hard work and 1000 Pokédollars worth of Pokéballs all gone to waste now." The boy said, jumping in the middle of the pokémon battle. "So should I even this out. Or would you like me to be a ref?" The boy asked, stepping out of the way. "Oh, and My name's Lyle. Lyle Clement, younger brother of Karen Clement of the elite four of Johto." Lyle said, looking from one sidde of the battle to the other.

Daniel quickly inspected his inventory and his Pokemon. <Hmm...> He thought to himself. <I have plenty of Potions, a few Super Potions, a couple dozen Full Heals, assorted healing items, and a batch of my grandmother's delicious Lava Cookies, all the way from Lavaridge Town in Hoenn! Yum! Plus, I have enough Pokeballs to help out my new comrade catch some Pokemon. However, Beatrice isn't fully healed, so she isn't ready for battle. Bubbles would be useful against that Hitomoshi if that Pikachu wasn't on the team! However, Bubbles does have a very useful move for the Pikachu...> Daniel heard Lyle, and got a great idea. "Hey, Lyle! After this battle, I'll help you catch a Chobomaki if you help me evolve my Chobomaki and Kaburumo!"

"I don't need your help," Rylan said, glaring at the new guy. "I'm perfectly capable of handling these too lackeys on my own. Do you know how many Pokémon are on this Route, Abel? I do, I've caught all of them!" Rylan burst out laughing, and Eevee charged at the Hitomoshi, but flew straight threw.

"Now, now," Rylan said, "Control your Pokémon, Abel. Don't you know Normal-Type attacks are ineffective against Ghost-Type Pokemon like Hitomoshi?"

Abel glared at his rival and pulled out his one other Pokéball, looking at it. "I didn't want to use you, considering your so low in level, but come on out, Mudkip!"

Daniel prepared for battle against the strange annoying prick who randomly decided to challenge them. "Well, since you have decided to be irritating about this, how about we try something different? Percival, Horn Attack on his Pikachu!" The Kaburumo charged at Pikachu, and swiped his horn at the electric mouse. Daniel suddenly asked Rylan. "Hold on a second. If you think you're so superior, why are you wasting your time battling a middle schooler and a Bug-loving nerd when you could be doing other things, like, say, fighting a Gym Leader and actually making some measure of progress in the League?"

Abel and Rylan glared at each other for a moment while Rylan's Pikachu dodged the Horn Attack. "Pikachu! Use ThunderBolt!"

Abel yelled to his Eevee, "Blind his Pikachu with Sand-Attack!"

The two Trainers had hated each other from the first moments they had been around each other. They were always neck-and-neck when it came to anything, whether it be Pokémon training or a literal race. They were evenly matched, even if Rylan did have a Pokémon more or two than Abel did. It infuriated both fo them that they were often compared to each other, and it made them strive to be even better.

Daniel didn't care about their rivalry. He only wanted Bug Pokemon, and currently, this twerp was preventing him from making some trades to evolve his Kaburumo and Chobomaki into a Shubarugo and an Agirudaa. Percival took the attack, but he kept going. "Alright! Time to concentrate my forces on that Pikachu! Percival, use False Swipe! Bubbles, attack his Pikachu with Mud Shot!" Percival charged at Pikachu again, this time trying to hit him with his tiny fists, while Bubbles gathered up some mud in the air and aimed the mud ball at the Pikachu. The little blue bug then lobbed the mud ball in Pikachu's general direction, hoping it would hit her target instead of her ally.

"Hitomoshi! Use Fire Spin and knock the mud out of it's trajectory!" Rylan called out strategically, Hitomoshi obeying orders and slamming the ball of dried dirt back onto the ground where it exploded in a cloud of dust, though Pikachu broke the cloud, being thrown back, knocked unconscious.

"Good job!" Abel said, looking over to Daniel before calling out to Eevee. "Quick use Helping Hand!"

There was no denying, in Rylan's mind, that these to would be a nuisance if he continued with the battle, but he wasn't going to surrender to Abel or admit defeat quietly, he would go out in a blaze of glory.

Percival received a boost of power from Helping Hand, and prepared for Daniel's next orders. "Now that the Pikachu has been dealt with, let's focus on the next target! Percival, attack Hitomoshi with Peck! Bubbles, use...well...Bubble!" Percival leapt up into the air and dived down towards the purple candle while Bubbles fired a large bubble at Hitomoshi. <Good thing using Triple Battle tactics is working!> Daniel thought to himself. <Since he has two Pokemon, he is outma-> Daniel suddenly realized something. "Umm...Abel...Where is his third Pokemon?"

"His third Pokémon?" Abel said, counting the number of Pokémon Rylan had out. "That's a good point! Where is your third Pokémon, Rylan?"

Rylan opened up his backpack and pulled out another two Poké Balls. "Right here. Now, just to choose. Hmm, I think I'll choose Meditite for this little battle!" Rylan threw the Poké Ball into the air, the Meditate Pokémon, Meditite emerging for battle.

"Use Hi Jump Kick!" Rylan commanded, Meditite dashing toward's Daniel's Percival.

Daniel gawked. "How does that Pokemon even know that?!?" Before Percival was sent flying. The little beetle tried to get up, but he just went back down. Glum, Daniel solemnly returned his Pokemon. "Alright, girl. You're up." Chu grudgingly hopped out of Daniel's hair and headed onto the battlefield. The tiny Pokemon shivered a bit as she looked at her opponents. "Now, to finish off that Hitomoshi! Bubbles, Aqua Jet!" Bubbles charged at Hitomoshi on a spout of water. "Chu, Thunder Wave!" The little Pokemon sent out a pulse of electricity towards Meditite.

Rylan withdrew his Pokémon and looked into the trees to his right. "I forfeit. Abel, I am not going to stop challenging you. I'm going to become the Lotus Region Champion, don't deny that. Obviously, I need to train more, but the next time you see me, I will be stronger, and I will defeat you."

"Wow, dark side much?" Abel laughed, withdrawing his Eevee. "I guess I do need to catch some more Pokémon though. I'll just take a stop at the PokéMart in Umbra Town before I meet you up at the Red Forest, Daniel!"

Abel walked off toward Umbra Town, hoping that Rylan wasn't going to get even stronger. He had had a hard enough time fighting him in a Triple Battle with Daniel, but Daniel seemed much more experienced than he was. He, like Rylan, was determined to become even stronger as a Trainer, but Rylan was already leaps and bounds ahead of him, so he was going to get stuck in a rut if he didn't train hard.

Rylan was pretty angry about having to forfeit to Abel of all people, so he dashed off in the opposite direction of Abel, toward Sienna Town and the Shadow Cave, a large expansive tunnel that sprawled the entire Lotus underground. There were rare Pokémon said to live in the cave, but the Pokémon that were the rarest lie in slumber deep within its depths. "I need to get stronger," he mumbled to himself as he lit up the cave with his Meditite's Flash.

Daniel was amazed that not only did he just win a Triple Battle, but his opponent surrendered. "Yeah, ya big pansy! Go home to your mommy and cry! That'll teach you to interrupt people when they are talking! You can't de- WHAT?!? Why are you going to keep challenging us?!? You just gave up!!! Besides, what gave you the right to burst in during the middle of our friendly conversation?!? I want some answers-" Daniel was appalled that Rylan just ran away. "What a little prick! I man, really! He doesn't even stop to talk to me! How rude!" Daniel then turned to Lyle. "So, you up for that Chobomaki?"

Abel stopped at the PokéMart to pick up some Poké Balls and Potions before heading to the Pokémon Center where he healed his Eevee before heading to the north end of the town where the Gym was located. Gerard was sitting on the roof of the building and he called out to his younger friend.

"Hey! Abel!" Gerard yelled, jumping onto a smaller roof and onto the ground before running over. "You're finally getting a start on your journey with Pokémon, huh? It's a pretty hard time, but you and your Pokémon will develop close bonds and grow together throughout your journey. It's amazing. I'm glad you've decided to give it a shot. I'll be waiting to battle you, but only after you get the first four major badges in the Lotus League, or else you'll be no match for me."

"Yeah, I guess it was about time I broke free," Abel said, "Rylan is headed out too, but I don't think he was coming through this way. He challenged me to a battle, but he surrendered. He would've won if he stuck with it, though."

"Yeah, I'd really like a Chobomaki. I'd trade you yours for anything you like. I have two Dustox's and quite a strong Beedrill at home, but I think that's kind of cheating, seen as though I'm starting another journey." Lyle Explained, Sighing. He shrugged. "It'll get me noticed by my parents at any rate, if I defeat everyone in this region, It's something my Sister hasn't done." He muttered to himself. Realising he was muttering out loud, he explained his sister was Karen of the Johto Elite four. "So I'm trying to do something she hasn't, which is why I'm here. And I've always wanted an Agirudaa, so I'm trying to catch a Chobomaki. If you can help me then great, because you seem to be an Expert on bugs." Lyle said. "And sure, I'll help you train your Pokémon. If your going up against gyms, then you could join me, as I'm doing the same thing?" Lyle asked.

Daniel started walking towards the nearest town so they could execute the trade, and motions for Lyle to follow him. "I'll tell you what. I have a spare Chobomaki and Kaburumo in my PC. I will trade you those, then we can both get an Agirudaa and a Shubarugo! What else do you have besides the Beedrill and the Dustox? If you have a Trapinch and a Skorupi, I would be more than happy to help you out! Furthermore, what Type are you trying to become a Trainer of, or is it just any, because Abel and I would love another traveling companion!"

"Any really. I would much prefere to catch one myself, because I reckon that would be better, as I am starting from scratch. But I have a Trapinch if you really want a trade. I dont have a Skopuri though, as it evolved a while back, and I'm too close to it to give it away. But I'll trade Trapinch for Chobomaki!" Lyle said, following Daniel to the nearest town, which was Russet City. "So, where are you from? I was born in Ecruteak City. Oh, and I didn't even Introduce Myself. I'm Lyle Clement, younger Brother to Karen Clement of the Elite four of Johto. I specialise in Fast Pokémon, which gives me a variety of Choice of type really." Lyle said. "Your Daniel, right?"

Daniel grinned as he headed for the PC. "Daniel Andrews, also known as 'That Guy With The Goggles'. I lead 'ThatGuyWithTheGoggles.mon', a website dedicated to helping out Bug Catchers everywhere! I love all kinds of Bug-Type or bug-like Pokemon, which is why I am interested in your Trapinch." He withdrew a female Chobomaki and asked Lyle. "Before I trade you this Chobomaki, would you like to nickname her anything? I mean, I love nicknaming any Pokemon I will keep on my team, and this Trapinch will be a keeper. In fact, could you nickname the Trapinch 'Flitter'? It won't make sense now, but it will when the Trapinch evolves."
