I was prompted to develop my own game mechanic in a contest, and after some thought (and a lot of trial and error), I eventually settled on monsters that would treat the RFP zone as another Extra Deck of sorts - Shift Monsters.

The main problem however, was which total it would belong to, if they belonged to the Main Deck, it would be too easy to Deck-Out or lose an awful lot of variety. If they were to add to the Extra Deck, the ability to choose between Synchro/Fusion monsters would be limited. In the end, I settled on the idea that Shift Monsters would belong to the Side Deck total. This would allow them to be easily accessed, but draw back also in that including Shift monsters would harm the option of siding in different cards during a Match. I have had mixed responses on this so far, but I believe it is the most practical way.

Now, Im sure you want to understand how Shift Summoning actually works. At the moment I have a basic list of rulings and mechanics which I'm sure need developing. If you can see any flaws with them, please point them out so that I may improve upon them.
- They are placed in the RFP zone at the beginning of a Duel. They are "Shift" Summoned by removing from play a monster whose Level is equal to that of the "Shift" monster.
- Material consists of only 1 face-up monster that is exactly the same Level as the Shift monster you are trying to Shift Summon. For example, you cannot use 2 Level 4 monsters as material for a Level 8 Shift Monster.
- Any effect that would return them to Deck or hand returns them to RFP zone instead.
- You cannot use a Shift monster to Shift Summon another monster.
- While in RFP zone, Shift monsters do not count towards card effects that rely on RFP'd monsters. Examples being Return from the Different Dimension, Golden Homunculus, etc.
- Shift monsters can only Shift Summoned. Can't be Special Summoned by any other means.
- Shift monsters do not count towards Main Deck total (and are not added to Main Deck at any point), but Side Deck total. Therefore, including 15 Shift monsters means you can't "switch out" cards inbetween Duels in a Match.
- As you may expect, you can only include 3 Shift monsters of the same name in your Side Deck.
- Shift Summoning is a variation of Special Summoning (in the same way that Synchro Summoning/Fusion Summoning ect are variations of Special Summmoning)
- All Shift monsters are Effect monsters.
- Shift monsters can be tributed or used for Synchro summons when Shift Summoned successfully.
- Shift monsters are sent to the graveyard normally when destroyed. They must be RFP'd if they are to be Shift Summoned again.
Interesting Idea. Already with a new card type and the cards are all pretty playable ;)

Neo Prophet will be a useful way to get out higher level monsters.

Dimension Mecha... might possibly be OP'd depending on the variety of the levels you will make Shift monsters from.

Overall 9/10 nice approach to a new concept :D

EDIT: You are going to have to make some changes, due to Evan's combo

I think I may have made my first completely broken card. Will nerf it immediately.

Thanks for commenting. Glad you think they're playable.

One side comment: If it is a new Card Type and not a Sub-Type (like Tuner, Spirit), shouldn't you have /effect in there?
I'm unsure. Due to the fact that they're all Effect monsters, I don't see the need in adding "/ Effect" I also point out in the Mechanics that all Shift monsters are treated as Effect monsters.

Also, the Dimension Mecha problem should be just about fixed. "Once per turn" restriction should keep it playable, but not as broken as before.

Hm... Good Idea...

The Card Idea You Came Up With Is Intresting...

If You Don't Mind, I Would Like To Make Shift Monsters Also...

Since I'm Making A Story Later On (It Is Called "Yu-Gi-Oh! The Future") I Would Like To Include The "Shift" Monsters In My Story, If It Is Okay With You...

Overall Score 10/10 They Seem Playable From What I See (But The Lower The Level is Just Like The Higher Levels... Their Hard To Get Onto The Field!)

I liked the concept a lot.
The cards also seem awesome to their "category".

If you let me, I would also like to make shift monsters.

Neo Prophet is better, the other one is pretty hard to summon(as its a Lv 1)10/10 and a +REP.
I'm glad you like them, and thanks for the 10/10.

I'm not sure about other people making them, though. I'll give a definite answer when I've thought about it a bit more.

Another 10/10? Thanks for the high rate, but again I'll have to think a bit on the prospect of other people creating them.

Great Concept, want to see more, especially high-level "Shift" monsters. :)

Also, this could really support level trick tactics (cards that change the levels of monsters)

10/10, +rep

Thanks for the 10 and I'll get round to making some high-level monsters soon.

Thanks for the positive comments everyone, nice to know the idea is appreciated.

Infinity Champion Alpha is slightly abusable.

Grinder Golem to your opponent.
NS Summoner Monk, SS Karakuri Doorkeeper/Flamvell Magacian/other level 4 tuners that are not restricted
Synch for Collasal
Shapeshift Colassal into Alpha
RFP your (their) Grinder Golem.
Opponent takes 3000.

Attack for 2900.
5900 damage and two tokens.

Not actually good combo, but just one way to use this Shift.

Omega is slightly abusable in this OTK:

SS Grinder.
NS Summoner Monk, grab a Tuner again.
Synch into Collasal.
Shapeshift into Omega.
Take control of Grinder.
Shapeshift Grinder into a Shift monster of whatever level it is.
Attack for gaammmee

...Evan.

You can't NS Summoner Monk after you've played Grinder Golem.

To quote Grinder Golem's effect:
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned from your hand to your opponent's side of the field by also Special Summoning 2 "Grinder Tokens" (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) in face-up Attack Position on your side of the field. If you Special Summon this monster you cannot Normal Summon or Set a monster during the same turn.
Really like this concept, although it might make certain cards in your main deck 'fillers' that are never intended to be used themselves, but for the purposes of shifting. But I love the card examples and the mechanics could work. Dimensional Mecha has a really cool effect, the 2 Level 8's have badass abilities, but have fairly specific summoning requirements so not too overpowered.

I also really like the colour and template, which shouldn't make any difference, but I'm a sucker for appearance. ^_^

Glad you like it, but when it comes to fillers, doesn't the same apply to Synchro's, Fusions and in some cases Ritual monsters?

Emerald Shift Dragon is added.

Nice to hear good things about the mechanics too.

If these cards existed, I would be playing Mecha Exodia or Omega Combo

OMega combo now requires you to hold out one turn. With the tokens, that's not hard.
I'll take that as a compliment. After all, if they weren't any good, you wouldn't use them right?

True, but it wouldn't just be low level fillers, it could be fillers of any level, which might increase the usage of fillers, given that only 1 monster is needed for a summon, not exactly an issue, just a point I make.

And yes, your mechanics look good, I could imagine using one of these cards, and it really wouldn't take long for people to learn how to use them, simply, than say, excess appears to be.
The only very little thing I might say after rereading is that it could be a bit annoying trying to keep the removed from play cards and shift cards separate, as they both go in the same area. If the shift cards are all kept together its not an issue, but I guess it could create slight confusion, but thats just being picky. :D
