Paradise, a Vocaloid fanfic.

This fic was originally meant to be a oneshot, but I've decided to split it up into chunks because I'm lazy. I haven't written for recreation in a while and I thought this would be a fun place to start, with Vocaloid. This is probably an awful idea for a fanfic, but why not give it a try?

NOTE - This fanfiction contains a bit of Miku/Rin. Just letting you know.

Where am I?

The yellow-haired girl simply stared at the clear-cut hallway that was sprawled before her in a vast expanse of whitewashed emptiness. A bright light shone at the end of the corridor, and the girl began to run towards it, not feeling, not knowing. Her black shoes clicked across the clean tiled floors as she sprinted towards the source of the luminescent glow, a diminutive bow bobbing in her hair.

She skidded to a sudden stop as a window appeared to her left. Peering in, the girl could make out a human form, hooked up to various tubes and machinery. Squinting her eyes in concentration, she could also discern other qualities about the mysterious being. The form had long, powder blue hair that was dressed elegantly in twin pigtails. Moreover, she was donning a wrinkled hospital gown that looked like it hadn't seen a washer in quite some time. The mystifying female’s blue eyes suddenly slammed shut as she was wracked with an apparent blast of silent pain, muffled by the window that the horrified, yellow-haired bystander stood behind. The frightened girl pressed both hands against the glass as the bedridden form struggled against her machinery.

“Please! I want to help you!”

The girl with the long locks suddenly lay deathly still, and the blond youngster quickly dropped her hands from the glass in surprise. As she looked on, the patient slowly tilted her head towards the window, her pale cheeks streaked with sticky tears. For a moment, the two girls made eye contact, and then the tormented lass mouthed four words, unheard through the clear barrier of the window.

“Take me to Paradise.”

As the confused girl in the hall tried to mouth back her confusion, the forgotten luster down the hall flared up, engulfing the entire passage. The blond youngster protested as she was pulled away from the glass, her screams unheard in the white expanse. The light reeled her in like a fish, and before she knew it, the girl's petite form was streaking down the hallway, out of her control.

There was a bright flash of radiance. Then, there was nothing more to see.

Rin Kagamine sat bolt upright in her bed, her orange pajamas clinging to her sweaty form. Had that escapade all been a dream? She looked around her quarters expectantly, as if she was going to recapture the ashen hallways that sleep had brought her. Finding no such luck within her memory, Rin quickly adjusted the bow in her hair and thought deeply of the girl she had found behind the glass, tubes and all. The machinery had obscured her natural beauty, and Rin could still hear her silent speech.

“Take me to Paradise.”

What had that meant? Who was this girl? Rubbing her head vigorously, the blond Vocaloid started to get ready for a fresh day, thoughts
of the patient racing through her brain.

Miku Hatsune lay limply in bed, her scratchy hospital gown wrapped tightly around pale skin. She didn’t want to open her eyes, because she knew she’d still be in the same place.

This white room.

Windowless and dingy, the pallid enclosure did nothing to excite or entertain her. Her only companion in this proverbial cell was her machinery, which beeped her awake in the morning and lulled her asleep at night. The entire expanse was empty, stifling, and hollow. The only thing that kept Miku sane was the vain hope that someday, she would be able to flee from her prison.

Unfortunately, Miku Hatsune was sick.

She had been overcome by a mysterious illness at age four, which then proceeded to ravage the girl without mercy. It took years for remedial experts to fight off her disease, which left behind a limp shell of a human, a pale specimen for medical eyes. Miku’s ailment spread to her family roots as well, as her mother fled, unable to bear the burden of a bedridden child. Her father visited her sporadically, but never stayed for long. How could he?

Until she was deemed healthy and strong, the tealette was maddeningly confined to her white room. The illness that had afflicted her long ago had torn apart her immune system, and if Miku contacted any infections, any one of them would be fatal.

To make a long story short, the days seemed to blend together into a long stretch of monotony for the poor girl.

However, today Miku didn’t want to begin just “another period” in her cell. She had had a wonderful dream, about windowed rooms and a cute blond girl, with a white bow in her hair. What had she said to that particular girl again? It was all so confusing.

Miku Hatsune kept her eyes shut.

Across the town of Crypton, Rin Kagamine released a messy sneeze as she stepped into a shining outside world. The sun shone brilliantly through the clouds, and the blond girl was suddenly reminded of her dream, and the mysterious light that had pulled her away from the sickly tealette.

Shaking her head roughly, the flustered child started towards the local park. Maybe Len would be there.

The park just happened to be located near the Crypton hospital. Straightening her socks, Rin scampered off, her bow flapping loosely in her hair.

Miku Hatsune couldn’t take it anymore. Throwing off her gritty covers, she carefully removed her mechanical tubes from her skin and laid them carefully on her bedspread, wincing in pain. She could feel her sanity slipping away within these whitewashed walls, but she couldn’t care less now. Standing up shakily, Miku weakly knelt down and extracted a wrinkled white sundress from the confines of her bed.

Escape clothes. Her only casual clothes.

Shedding the scratchy gown only to replace it with a creased sundress felt simply exhilarating to the captive girl. It was as if Miku Hatsune was no longer a special patient at Crypton General. No, she was a normal teenager, about to taste the outside world for the first time in what felt like an eternity.

Taking a deep breath, the unsteady teen carefully cracked open the door to her proverbial cell and stepped out a pale hallway. Miku glanced around the deserted corridor, panicking a bit when she realized that she had no idea what she was going to do next.

Eyes darting around with calculated precision, Miku Hatsune soon found a solution across the hall. There, standing like a gateway to Heaven, was a corroded door. Upon pushing the mystifying entrance open, warm air hit the stunned girl’s face, nearly blowing her over from its shock alone.

She had found the fire escape.

Miku Hatsune began to totter down the steps, holding onto the railing with every foreign footfall. It was like learning to walk again, but by the second flight of steps, Miku finally felt confident enough to let go of the steel railing, her safety net.

When her feet finally hit concrete, the tealette let out a huge sigh and brushed errant hairs out of her eyes. Looking across the street, she saw Crypton Local Park, its innocent play set and swings looking very appealing. With a shaky breath, Miku carefully stepped out onto the crosswalk, her senses overloaded by the clamor of reality.

Three stories above her, an attending nurse decided not to check on the bedridden girl in the extended-stay ward. She couldn’t have gone anywhere, after all.

~

Rin Kagamine sprinted across the crosswalk leading to the park, jumping a bit as a cacophonous car horn sounded off behind her. She thought about sticking her tongue out at the driver, but decided against it. As she ran out onto the wood chips of the local park, Rin froze.

There was a stranger on the swing set. A stranger with powder-blue hair and a white sundress.

I probably won't stop writing this. I'm only doing it for fun. ^^
