Catterjune
I remember playing Kingdom Hearts 2 and thinking "wow, this game is REALLY easy" in comparison to the first game. I sold my old copy, so I didn't know whether it was the Nostalgia Glasses talking or whether I was just a nublet at video games back than and I got better over the four year time frame since the games came out. Recently, I, oh let's say... acquired... the original KH and decided to give it a spin. Firstly, has the camera always been this bad? R2 or L2 to rotate? That sucks. >_> Once that initial shock wore off, I eventually made my way to Traverse Town (which is where I'm at right now) and damn, the Guard Armour is kicking my ass left and right. I set it to Expert Mode (fairly certain I set KH2 to Proud Mode as well) and even the shadows and soldier heartless are giving me a run for my money. KH1 is much more difficult than KH2... in my opinion.

Catterjune
Need help with it?
Not... particularly. I mean, I beat it when I was 12. Shouldn't be too difficult... On that note, I've continued my epic multi-world, quest today. I tore through the Guard Armor and made my way to Wonderland. I don't know what it was, but I don't recall Gummi Ship flight being so terrible. Yeah okay, nostalgia glasses for that, possibly. But I remember the Gummi Ship flying being fun in KH1, and felt the flying in KH2 was rather... I dunno... too fast and seizure inducing. But the way it is now is just awful. Too slow and shooting is terrible. So, after swearing at the Gummi Ship I arrived in Wonderland. I liked it overall. The platforming was kind of a pain in the ass though. I remember trying to land on the mushroom there for like, four times and having it not work. Still, it was okay. I like challenges... for the most part. Speaking of less challenging, I noticed the game is much easier with Goofy and Donald helping me out. So yeah. Fought The Trickmaster. Won. I noticed a bunch of treasure chests lying around. I don't remember if I can get them now, or I have to come back when I get the High Jump or the Glide ability. >_> Just trying to open every chest I see and activate every trinity mark. Off to Olympus Colosseum now.
Phantom Roxas
I think that in Kingdom Hearts II they fixed the controls from the original, which is why the game was easier. However, they made the AI terrible, but I thought that Donald always had a worse AI than Goofy.
Catterjune
I don't think it was "fixed controls" that made it easier. If I recall correctly, KH2 was just way more linear then KH1. Everything was in a straight path. KH1 had you explore and re-explore, with worthwhile platforming sections to make the jump button slightly more useful. In 2, you could beat the whole game by holding down the "forward" analog and button mashing X and Triangle. Granted, you just hold down X in KH 1 too, but still, the movements and jumping and getting from place to place made it much better overall. And yes, Donald dies a lot more then Goofy does, I've noticed. >_> I think it's just his HP is naturally lower, and Goofy has higher HP and defense. Not to mention all Goofy does is attack, as opposed to Donald who should be using his wand to cast spells (and he doesn't, due to no MP after... any battle.) Also, I still haven't figured out how to fix my Gummi Ship. I don't think I ever did, and just stuck with the default one. It didn't matter once you got the Warp Drive anyway... speaking of which, does anyone remember which world you get it in? On an unrelated note, it turns out I'm heading to Deep Jungle. I didn't even remember Tarzan was a Disney movie, let alone in KH1. One last note. As I recall, there were a few permanently missable things. Like, you might miss a Dalmation in Monstro or a Trinity mark in Halloween Town, and they'd be gone forever. Any decent list to know what can be lost forever? Kiyo
From what little I've played of KH2, I'd say it's because the game involves more button mashing. Seriously, I just mash /\ and X during battles and 90% of the time I win without even having to heal myself. In KH1, it feels more involving. You actually have to move, dodge, read your opponent's attacks... I mean, compare the two Sephiroth battles. In the first, you have to move around, dodge and anticipate his moves (Descend Heartless Angel, oh god...), or you'll die in 5 seconds. I've watched the battle in the second game, and honestly, it looks like the guy's just mashing buttons >.> I know for sure, you can miss a ton of stuff at Oogie's Manor after the second battle with him. I also remember some chest at the Coliseum disappearing after a while...
Phantom Roxas
I think you get the Warp Drive after you rescue Kairi, but you have to talk to Cid in Traverse Town.
Kiyo
No, you get it at least as early as after the first ring of worlds are completed. (Wonderland, Coliseum, Deep Jungle.)

I'm certain it wasn't that far. >_> Anyway, I got stuck at some "Black Flower" in Tarzan's World. Guess it's off to GameFaqs... but Physics homework first. Some you'll need High Jump, some you'll need Glide, some you'll have to keep an eye out for. There's this one chest in Hollow Bastion I could never get. It's on top of a platform that's impossible to get to.
Catterjune
Okay well, I figured out the flower. I shot stuff at it it, tried setting it on fire, swung my key at it, and nothing worked. Turns out I just had to KEEP doing that. >_> Beat the Jungle Book world or w/e. Locked the keyhole. Got a Gummi. Returned to Traverse Town. FINALLY got the warp drive. o_o Now I'm off to faceoff against the Opposite Armour.

Catterjune
I need to replay KH1. Hollow Bastion was the worst world of the game.
You mispelled "Atlantica". ON THAT NOTE! I headed towards Agrabah. I don't know what it is, but it seems SOO much more linear in KH2, and Days, and Re:Coded. I could have sworn the map was different in KH1 then it was in KH2, but nope. Same exact map. I dunno, maybe the fact that the level makes you swoop around so much makes it much more involved. Start on the bottom, open a keyhole. Fight your way back, go through the door you just opened. Unlock the next one. Go all the way back. Same in the Cave of Wonders. Doing the stuff in the water parts opens up later parts in the upstairs area. I dunno. Made it's because I enjoy puzzles and mazes as opposed to action and fighting... *shrug* Okay so... beat Agrabah. Went towards Monstro. Annoyed by Riku. Fought the parasite. Those chambers bugged the hell out of me though. Without high jump, they were way difficult to figure out. So yeah. That dick Riku got away. Something about Kairi. Pegasus Cup which I easily beat. Which brings us to the aforementioned actual worst level of the game! Atlantica! o_o Terrible controls. Not even that plot relevant IIRC. Traverse Town is the "hub" town. Wonderland and Agrabah have the Princesses of the Heart. Monstro advances the story. Even though Olympus Colosseum doesn't move the plot much, at least it's action packed! Yeah, Jungle Book or Deep Jungle or Tarzan or w/e sucked too but at least the controls weren't terrible. Atlantica. TERRIBLE world. Why they included in KH2 only to make it a rhythm section (that had the same plot of the first movie) is beyond me. Then again, I like to pretend Return to the Sea never happened.
