anyway, I do have pretty good knowledge of both ps and gimp but I decided to use gimp for the simpler approach. (I only use gimp and/or ps to make band logos.)

While agreeing with ken you might try adding in a space-y theme...or at least sparkles to make it slightly better.

what's wrong with Unicorn Gndam? So maybe add a space stock or something?

I'd say find a slightly contrasting(Like Red or something) nebula or whatever you call them and apply it under the render and maybe some red light trails? Or maybe a white-pink smoke brush.
