Do you hold the door for people?

If it's someone I don't particularly like, then no.

I give my seat to people in the bus/train, but I can't hold open doors for people because the number of non-auto doors in Japan's public places is absurdly low.

I do all the time. You show someone one instance of kindness and it is possible to spread.

I do it when I can, but that doesn't come up very often... and sometimes I make it worse because I don't know how to stand when holding a door, and get in the way.

Yes, especially in populated places, I open the door, hold it for a whole bunch of people, which takes forever.

Most of the time yes but if the person like the wount say thank you I just open it for me and let go.

Sometimes, if someones right behind me, I hold the door open for them. Or even if its an old lady or man and they're walking slowly and they aren't close to the door, I'll wait for them and I'll close the door after they've past. Little actions like that can really help someone!

I will always hold the door for someone. Though, sometimes I'm a little awkward, and I stand there holding the door for someone who is a long distance away and I just wait there until they pass by and say "thank you". Yeah, I'm not so good with the timing of when to hold the door open sometimes.

Though, I'm polite in general too. I never say "thanks" and I'll always resort to "thank you" whenever someone does something nice for me, and in return, I'll be good to them.

I pick up things for people who have dropped things. I'll stand by someone who's standing alone. I'll offer something of mine to someone who needs it.

And when it comes to eating, napkin on my lap the first thing when I sit down. Etc etc.

I'll usually hold it open except when I'm in a rush or the person I'm holding it for is rude (which isn't that many times).

Depends on their distance from the door. If they are close yes, if they aren't... then it depends on how fast they are walking and if I think it's worth my time to hold it for them.

I don't want to be awkward, so I won't hold it unless the person is close by. Otherwise, I push the door out and hope that they can get it in time. If someone's carrying something heavy, though, I always hold the door for them, regardless of the distance.

I know the feeling. I hate it people don't thank you for it. (Oh and when they don't say thank you to Bus Driver when getting off.)
