Is the anime really that bad ass?" Answer, yes . . . yes it is. Watch as much as there is in english, went and read all that they have in english, and began buying the manga. The good thing about having distinguishable characters is attracting curious onlookers. It wasn't the best manga I've read, but Hellsing Ultimate does it great justice.
