[spoiler= My reason for Warhammer pwning them all]
Warhammer won due to the fact of it's races.

Races such as the C'tan (Necron for Star Gods) are large beings made of a metal like material that allows for self repair. They had consumed entire stars and known to have a huge hunger for souls of sentient beings. Hell, one of them, the Nightbringer (A.K.A. the Grim Reaper) loves killing to the point that when he was first found by the Necrons, he eaten nearly their whole species. The Necrons are made of the same material and had WAY more tech then all the races known. Their only weakness was psychic powers (Brotoss and such would win against them, but not Jedi or Sith) and such, they had to seal off all sources of psychic powers (Which in Warhammer, was the Warp also known as HELL) in order to be unbeatable. They failed badly due to another race known as the Enslavers. Necrons are equipped with Gauss rifles that strips it's target of it's molecules. Not to mention they are immune to biological, psychological, or electrical warfare. They have advanced teleportation tech that allows for rapid deployment and retreats. Their "Monoliths" or bases are also made of the same thing as them and teleports any fragments of any Necron unit for repair. As long as theres are scrap of a Necron left, they'll teleport it back for repair and to regrow that unit. Not to mention, they go om nom nom on peoples' souls. They were forced into stasis by the Enslavers after they ran out of chips.

The Tyranid would surely be the toughest foe the Empire, Dominion, and Federation would ever face. They so far had stripped neighboring galaxies of bio matter in order to feed it self. It takes them 100 days to EAT everything on a planet. Each planet being eaten by a "Splinter" of a Hive fleet. So far, all the races in Warhammer had troubles with the Scouting fleet. Their units were known to evolve and adapt to enemy weapons within a day or two. Not to mention, for races with a society, they would send "Genestealers" to make a infestation. The children of the Genestealers would mate with regular citizens, and make their way up the chain of command and then BAM! Create chaos on the world and try to weaken it in order for the Hive Fleet to take over. Though this has taken about a few decades to do. They all use biological weapons and created to last until the battle is over and the planet conquered. Once the planet is conquered, the units take a swim in Reclaimation Pools (POOLS FULL OF STOMACH ACID) to be taken apart and fed to their Hive Ships. Not to mention, they have DNA of ALL the things they eaten and take the best tid bits to augment their race. Their only goal is to go om nom nom nom on any planet that is tasty. Plus, as long as one spore is left, they can return.

Chaos. Damn. This race would f*** over anyone. They have demons, gods, and corrupt evil units. Their four gods represent war and bloodlust (Khrone), death and disease (Nurgle), madness and change (Tzeentch) and pleasure (Slaanesh). They feed on anything that is psychic, ether pocessing them or turning into gateways for more demons to come into our realm. As long as there is bad things in the Universe, they can survive. All their troops (Chaos Space Marines) had sold their souls to these gods, in return for power. But if they die in combat, they get their soul eaten. Also, if they recieve TOO much powers or augmentations, they turn into a mindless beast. Basically, ether way if your serving Chaos, your f***ed. Plus, they can easily bring anyone to their side. It takes someone with will power to resist their temptations. Plus they have the Enslavers, a race of flying purple jellyfish that pocesses anything that has a mind. Once they control their victum, they can make them into portals for more of them to flood our world, or they can make them go on a crazy killing spree, destroying whole worlds. Did I mention they nearly wiped out the whole galaxy and forced the Necrons and their gods back? Their strongest units are Daemon Princes. 1 Prince could destroy a whole Hive world (A world containing people in the 100 billions).

Orks..... Always fear and love them. They are the most brutal and ignorant race ever. They are the ultimate fighting machines. Peace and diplomacy doesn't exist when your dealing with them. They were created as a warrior race to fight, win, and survive. Hell, they built a submachine gun that fires 100 caliber rounds out of a silver spray painted shoebox with a pistol grip on it. If they think it'll work, it usually does. They number in the lower trillions, are possibly the strongest race in the game, if only they weren't stupid. Plus, once you can't kill them as long as their head is fine, other wise they can sow it back on anything and go back to business. Even if you do kill the head, it'll release millions of spores that'll grow into more of them. They worship 2 Gods, named Gork and Mork. Difference between them is that one will hit you while you look, and the other when you don't. The arguement has lead to mass genocide, only to be forgotten. But dear god help you if they enter in a WAAAGHHH!!!!!!!!!. A WAAAGHHH!!!!!! is a mix of pub brawl, genocide, and holy crusade. Anything that isn't a Ork is found and then killed by the Orks while a WAAAGHHH!!!!! happens, plus it's the only thing to unite their mass bloodlust.

Humen. One of the dominant races in the game, they face extinction from many sides. From within against heretics that wish the death of the mighty God Emperor, to aliens that want them dead. Their Golden Age was known as the Dark Age of Technology. During that time, they built Iron Men. Yes, Iron Men in order to be their slaves. The robots got pissed and rebelled, only to be slapped and told to go back in the kitchen to make their supreme masters a sandvich. Then they spread across the galaxy. Anyhow, they made giant robots. Citadels that wore fortresses as party hats. Machines to much giant suns to where ever they wanted. But then the Eldar just had to f*** it up with everyone and create a rip in reality and releashing Hell on every living being. Thus, psychic humen became gateways for demons to come out and rape the humen. Then the God Emperor came and fixed everything, and then united the whole humen race (who was spread out among the galaxy) into 1 giant Puritan empire that didn't sucked. Then his son Horus (Basically a clone of him) betrayed when convinced by Chaos to go against a man who UNITED the whole humen race under 1 banner of gore and glory. He killed his son but suffered massive damage and reclined on his chair and took a huge nap which he still hadn't woken up from yet. Even when he is asleep, he eats 1000s of souls of powerful psychics,and he protects the whole humen race with his massive psychic powers. The Imperium of Man spans the whole galaxy, having millions of worlds that make Coruscant seem a back water village. They produce over 5000 ships a hour, and can stand to lose billions and billions of lives without facing a stortage of help. Their elite soldiers, the Space Marine, are created from the toughest gangs and criminals, undergone massive experiments, given a dozen more vital organs, under go gene therapy, hypnosise, indoctrine into the Imperial Cult (Official religion of man which makes the God Emperor protecter, father, and god of the whole humen race, did I mention he was created from 20 of the world's most powerful/Gar men's souls?) and then goes into training.

Eldar. I prefer to call them the Space French. Their just a bunch of dying Space Elves (With hot units!) that knows when the last of them die, a new god of Chaos is born that'll close the rip they created and kill Slaanesh for spawn camping them, back then when they were having a massive BDSM session and repent for what they did. In the begining, after the Necron are forced back and the Enslavers leaving, they took over the whole Galaxy. They then decide it's okay to have massive BDSM sessions even though it'll create a god that'll kill them all and rip a hole straight to Hell. So they do it and screw everyone over. They are willing to sacrifice a whole planet of people to just save 11 of their people. They have ninja swords, and molecule thin shuriken that'll cut through most things. They can also jump in and out of Hell to teleport, but that's only for their elite units. They can live for thousands of years and have massive psychic powers. Oh yeah, their also arrogant as the French. But they make up for it for having hot Seers.

[spoiler= Part 2 of my rant]
Sure, Warhammer is the second largest one in here, (1st being Star Wars, 3rd being Starcraft, and 4th being Star Trek) but due to their fluff (All official canon is allowed here) has allowed them to fully show most of their universe.

The main weakness/blessing that they have is the Warp.

The warp is basically a sea of emotions/thoughts by ALL things in the universe and had become a Hell. The races in Warhammer travel through Hell to get from point A to point B and is their FTL travel method.

The dangers is that they might succumb to being pocessed by demons, never come out of the warp, or time travel ahead to a battle that they had lost*.

* Now, this is a mixed blessing. The Warp allows for Time Travel rarely, but can send them back or ahead to any time period. So let's say a Emperor class ship is sent through the Warp to support a battlion in the Armageddon system. They could possibly time travel to before the war on the Armageddon system had ever started, thus preping for defense.

Not to mention, the fact that the forces of Chaos feeds on psychic and psionic powers put most races under great tension.
