The background is pixelated.
The 'lightning' on Rai-Oh looks like crap. Or were you going for a plasma feel to it? cuz it still looks bad.
And the card zones look HORRIBLE. And i don't like the words... If you don't know where to put your monsters and spell/trap cards, you shouldnt be playing YGO.
And if you do, you don't need the names.

And I put my deck in different places from time to time, depending on where it feels comfortable...

Oh, and i dislike the logos btw


I was originally going for a psychic attack, but decided i liked it B&W more than purple.

You are looking for bad reasons why is his mat bad. He didn't have enough time. It's much better then yours. You dislike the logos? Your mat doesn't even have any,and it would be right if it had. You don't like the words on the zones? Your mat doesn't even have any, and it would be right if it had.

Now...about your mat:
Tho, the render is nice. It would be better imo if it was centered on the mat.
Card zones look good, but they don't look like IRL zones and they don't have any text.
The background is...boring. Just some grey wires and some lightning.
The text and the render doesn't really fit with the BG.
Generally, this mat needs a lot more details.

Card zones and a render slapped on a BG does not equal mat. And if you think this was the best I'd hate to see your others. And your anti-rip makes it look horrible, it's kinda hard to judge otherwise.

And also, the render is supposed to be behind the zones, not on top.

And yes, I can do better, and I haven't even tried making one of these before. Ever.

How did you made the BG. It looks like it was just smudged or something like that...so it's boring. The render is, like Chilly said, LQ and bad.
1st mat is better then the 2nd and it looks like IRL, but again, you don't like it with the logos and card backgrounds on the zones.

the background is Black Whirlwind used with a blur filter
and some contrast/brightness work
