What's up with these star thingies below your profile?

You know how it says like "New Member" or "Member" below your profile when you post a thread and there are these stars? How do you, like, gain stars or whatever?

They're posting ranks. I've been a member since 2007 and I'm still 3 stars

You can change your comment below your profile pic in the settings

They're post ratings. Your number of stars increase as you post more. I don't remember the exact numbers, although I do remember that 6 stars = 5000 posts.
