OmegaWave
Imagine being a developer and you have to tell one of your fans that he won’t be able to play your game because he doesn’t own the right console. Unfortunately, this was the case for David Jaffe, creator of the Twisted Metal series. While answering some questions via Twitter on Monday, user Mayham_Stone050 asked Jaffe if he’d ever see Twisted Metal on the Xbox 360 since he doesn’t own a PlayStation 3. Naturally, Jaffe’s answer to the question was a no, since Twisted Metal is owned and published by Sony. Although, Jaffe made it apparent that he has no qualms with this and enjoys helping Sony “differentiate their box from other boxes.”
No, we will not be making it for the 360. The only thing we’d love more than getting the game out there to as many players as possible- via putting it on new systems- is to continue helping Sony differentiate their box from other boxes. We love our 360s and Wiis and ipads but TM is Sony owned and made just for PS3 users.
Mayham then remarked to Jaffe that he was going to now need to buy a PlayStation 3 since he loved Twisted Metal. Later in the day, Jaffe tweeted that he and Sony Santa Monica Studios would like to ensure that Mayham_Stone050 plays Twisted Metal in 2011 by sending him a brand new PlayStation 3.
There was a guy on this morning when I was doing Q/A and he was asking if Twisted Metal would come out on XBOX360. I told him it would not be on the 360. He does not have a PS3. On behalf of Sony Santa Monica and Eat Sleep Play, we would like to give him a brand new PS3 so he can play Twisted Metal when it hits in 2011.
It’s not too often that you see developers and publishers giving away free consoles so that their fans can play their games. It was Mayham_Stone’s lucky day. He not only got to speak to the creator of one of his favorite games, but he then got a sweet blu-ray playing gaming device that does everything from him. Hats of to David Jaffe and Sony Santa Monica. That was a mighty nice thing to do. It’s not the first time we’ve seen Jaffe do something awesome. As for Jaffe, I’m sure his twitter will now constantly be spammed with “I don’t own a PS3 and want to play Twisted Metal.” by people hoping to be as lucky as Mayham_Stone050.
Credit to Hot Blooded Gaming for the article. TAG
Wow, that's just awesome. Although now I'm expecting him to be bombarded with requests for a Playstation 3. Still, that's mighty nice of him to do such a thing. Kudos to him.
OmegaWave
Just as an FYI, that part at the end that says it's not the first time Jaffe has done something awsome, they were referring to an auction he was in awhile back where he auctioned off an autographed copy of the original Twisted Metal and all the money went to charity.
