Althemia
Silent Hill 1 and 2 were the only good ones. The rest lost the scare factor for the stupidness. Silent Hill 1, to my shame... I never played. Which is a shame. I own every other Silent Hill but the 1st, meaning that I'm getting irritated by the fact that I can't seem to find a copy of the 1st anywhere. At all. The 2nd was amazing. Pyramid Head has to be the best horror game creature ever made. No exaggeration. The feelings that Pyramid Head gave, of lost hope and desperation, truly made him something worth remembering.
Spoon
I heard so many great things about the series, I love the soundtrack, even without ever being able to connect it to the games... it's just, I can't play it. I'm quite literally unable to play horror games... probably goes back to Resident Evil 2, when I was just about 9 or 10 years old... it was definitely not my most beloved gaming experience Anyways, if I ever get the chance (read: If a remake get's released in any shape or form), I'd like to pick them up. Just to know what I missed
Saturn of Elemia
The first 3 Silent Hill games were the best. It got kinda bland and stupid from Silent Hill 4 onward. When I played the first game for the first time and walked down that alley, it freaked me OUT! The nightmare world has the most fitting music that sends shivers down your spine. One of the freakiest moments in Silent Hill (for me) was in the hospital in Silent Hill 3 when the blood comes out of the sink and starts to consume the room. Eventually, your reflection in the mirror stops - which gives a good indication of what's going to happen to you if you stay in the room too long. What sucks is that you cannot leave the room until the blood hits the door - and touching the blood drains your life. Freaky.. Oh, and don't forget - Room 204 is for lovers! XD XD XD

I never found that moment to be that freaky at all tbh. I don't see how that can be considered more freaky than when Maria supposedly "dies" in Silent Hill 2 when she's about to get into the elevator and she's impaled by Pyramid Head, and the next time you see her she's perfectly fine. That scared the f**k out of me.
MarbleZone
Pyramid Head is the best videogame character ever and he doesn't even speak. Silent Hill 2 is one amazing game. Personally, the part that freaked me out the most was one small segment in which I get into an elevator with Maria, and the radio starts emitting static all of a sudden, and there's just the two of us that I can see. Then the door opens and the elevator music starts playing - it wasn't even the radio to begin with. I didn't get the concept of "psychological horror" until I played the game, but it's incredible how the designers made nothing happening at all a fear factor. The player is kept tense the whole time, when actually harmful things only happen occasionally.
Saturn of Elemia
@Kokonoe - This was back when the game first came out. I will admit that seeing Maria get impaled and come back was freaky - especially when it happened TWO more times.
Canadian
NOTE: ***Never played any of the SH games*** BUT, from what I've seen in the past few hours of watching gameplay and the movie I've come to this conclusion. All the games look the exact same. Why don't they just make a really good one with one storyline and stick to that? What is it at now... 8? ?someone?
The mist really freaked me out.. couldn't see anything 'till it came up in your face. You don't need good graphics to make a good, scary game... in fact, being able to see exactly what is chasing you, beyond the initial "yikes" factor, isn't scary. The fear of the unknown is very important to tap into.

You didn't see much of it in the third game; only when you actually went to Silent Hill. What freaked me out in the games were the radio and the changing of worlds.
