Warrior_Tal
-Ookami took several breaths of fresh air. Filling his lungs up with the rich toxins that was air, and then he would exhale. His gaze looked over at the man who laid upon the ground next to a tree. His right dominant arm twitched slightly; a slight pain were he had been stabbed by the kunai. Lifting his hand up he reached over with his left hand and pulled the kunai out. Blood dripped onto the ground. It seemed to pour over the Hyuga, but it also didn't seem to bother him as much. He twisted the kunai around with his fingers and threw it at the tree. A somewhat loud clang echoed through the area. Exhaling another breath of air Ookami turned and joined the others. Everything seemed a little suspicious, but who was Ookami to blame. The only thing he did was answer orders and do whatever he could to keep others he knew safe.- It's hard. -His head lowered slightly; however, just before they were about to set off; a soft voice rang through his ears. Turning slightly he saw the princess standing their with his brother's necklace in hand. She reached out to him with a palm open with the chain hanging from it. The simple words of 'thank you for protecting me' were strong enough to catch anyone's heart. A smile approached the Hyuga's face. His hand lowered down grabbing onto the chain with his fingers. Thumb, pointer, and middle. A small droplet of blood landed on her hand as he lifted and stepped away grasping the necklace firmly in his hand.- -Tucking it away into his pocket his gaze shifted over to Kyosuke who seemed a little calmer. Instead of nodding to the princess his left hand lifted up and patted the princess on her arm, before he nodded briefly to Kyosuke. Turning away he followed the others into the White Forest Pass.-
.:Blu:.
Even without an exchange of words, Ruri knew Ookami's thought just be seeing his gestures, a sign showing that Ruri has became a bit attatched to Ookami. Ruri gave a pleasant smile as Ookami patted her on the arm. She sort of looked down and her eyes were tearing up. She had finally felt a bond with someone that wasn't her bodyguards or her father. She felt a sense of pleasant happiness and comfort, the kind one would get from a dear friend or loved one. Kyosuke noticed Ookami's nod and his face showed calm surprise. Kyosuke was beginning to open up to others. Kyosuke gave a simple nod in return, one that seems to say "Thank you". Sonba noticed the two reactions and smiled pleasantly. Sonba never wanted Kyosuke to start any conflicts with the ANBU squad, and seeing Kyosuke's nod made Sonba relieved. Ruri looked at the single blood drop on her palm and smiled. She gently closed her hand as the afternoon breeze blew across the field, giving off a sense of calmness and comfort as if everything was going to be alright. However, that was far from the truth to Uyataka, Ruri, Kyosuke, and Sonba. They knew the perils that lie ahead for the ANBU squad, and only hoped that the others would forgive them for not telling them so earlier. Ruri and Sonba then head towards the White Forest Pass along with the others. Kyosuke gave a small smile and was about to walk off, however, he was approached by Yukan, and his smile diminished. "Are you suspecting us of something? Even your Captain has told you that we're not involve, and who knows why they would attack Princess Ruri. Maybe because she looked like she was a citizen of Konohagakure. You know those Ryu no Shippo shinobi hate your type of people, so it wouldn't be a surprise if they would attack Princess Ruri considering she is an easy target." Kyosuke explained. "Look, I appreciate the ANBU's help, but make no mistake that we hired you so don't question my, Sonba's, and most importantly, the Princess' role in all of this." Kyosuke warned. However, this time Kyosuke's voice didn't show much of resentment. His voice seemed rather calm this time around. Maybe he has open up a bit. Without another word, Kyosuke hurried after Ruri and Sonba. [Later that Evening] That group had finally finished setting up camp for the night. They all gather around the warm campfire to prepare for Uyataka's explaination. It was the least that Uyataka owe his squad. He wouldn't want to be the one to put up a wall between him and his teammates. Inotsu sat there, the light from the campfire intensifying the appearance of his mask. Everybody was rather quiet as they awaited for Uyataka. For Inotsu, he had mixed feelings about this mission. On one hand, he knows that he must protect the Princess with his life and is willing to do so without a doubt. On the other hand, he harbors distrust towards the Princess and her bodyguards. Inotsu usally would be the one to try a lighten the mood, but it seems he has also succumb to the feeling of resentment and distrust. Ruri just sat there and looked towards the ground. Her face showing signs of depression as how she was at the start of the mission. Kyosuke and Sonba kept looking at the campfire as if they were focused on something. Uyataka finally went out from his tent and walked towards the warming campfire. Uyataka sat down and gave a loud yawn. It was the type of yawn that could break the bleekness of any depressing situation. Even from behind the mask, Inotsu gave a slight grin hearing the yawn. "You know, this setting kinda reminds me of that one scouting mission we were all on." Uyataka started. "You mean the mission where we spent five days searching for some wild and dangerous animal that turned out to be just a small ferocious housecat?" Inotsu asked. "Yep, that was the one. Remember how on the third night we spent our entire sleep session trying to capture the alledged beast? I remember we returned with all of us being extremely cold from the winter winds and I had to find some wood to make a fire." Uyataka said. "Well anyways, I guess that's enough reminiscing for the night. Now to get on with the full mission info." Uyataka explained.
Mysterium Tremendum
Kaemon heard Uyataka's order to kill the Ryu no Shippo members, but for some reason Kaemon didn't want to do it. Instead, he decided to do something else with the mentally traumatized ninja. Kaemon grabbed the man by the scarf on his neck and dragged him down the path they'd come and decided to leave him in there. He was mentally-troubled enough that killing him was unnecessary. If the man recovered, he would definitely live his life better and if he didn't he would die. Kaemon left the silent man there still crouched in fetal position while saying a silent prayer for the man. ------------[Later that night]--------------------- Kaemon sat around the campfire with the others as they finished setting up camp and Inotsu and Uyataka started recounting some old mission story they shared. Kaemon yawned and leaned his head back, gazing up at the stars. Kaemon enjoyed star gazing, it always brought so many questions to his mind and put him in his most peaceful state. After a minute, Kaemon turned his head back to Uyataka and spoke, "So are you finally going to tell us why we're here, I expected to run into ninja here but it seemed like everyone knew those guys except me, so do you mind filling me in on these "Ryu no Shippo" members? I'm also wondering what bone they have to pick with Ruri, is it personal or just another ransom associated quest?" Kaemon finished his long sentence and looked at Uyataka and Inotsu sitting beside him.
Warrior_Tal
-Killing was never in Ookami's nature; everyone who knew this Hyuga knew well that he was not the type of shinobi who would just kill out of the thrill or the the fun of it. A simple reason for him being a part of the division of ANBU that went alone on those assassination style missions that revollved around the enemy being brought in alive. On rare occassions would he actually kill, and this was not one of those occassions at all. He already cut off the flow of chakra from that one Ryu no Shippo shinobi. That seemed to be enough all around. He was not going to kill the shinobi just because his squad leader told him to. So instead, he left the man there lieing on the ground.... out cold.- {Later that Evening} -The fire cackled and the smoke rose up through the tree line. Ookami's mask caught the slight coloration of the fire as it burned. The time of travel was fairly long, and it seemed well enough to be stopping for the night. While the others sat down next to the fire on a log or something; Ookami decided to just simply lean up against a tree. His left hand in his pocket while his right hand had a grip upon his brother's necklace. The bandages that covered his hand and arm were stained with blood and dirty from the recent battle. He was tossing the necklace up and down in his hand while waiting. His gaze shifted over to the princess and her body guards. It seemed a little strange to be performing something like this especially when the rest of the ANBU team was a little on edge about this mission in the first place. Ookami could care less of how the mission would go. His objective was to protect the princess and her guards despite the conciquences. So for now he simply waited for the explanation of their squad leader on this mission.-
BLUR
Yukan felt anger once more when Kyosuke said that the Ryu no Shippo their type of people by which he meant Leaf-nin. But Yukan knew their was truth behind this statement. Yukan's anger suddenly turned into a melancholy feeling. He didn't know why he was recently getting very impatient and angry. He realized now more than ever how hard it really is to be a Konoha ANBU Black Op. Under his mask he frowned. He felt bad for the tone he used on Kyosuke. Yukan simply walked away, not wanting to apologize for questioning him but still sorry for it. [Later that Evening] Yukan was sitting very quietly watching the fire while Inotsu and Uyataka were chatting about a mission. He was still depressed for who knows what reason. Everyone were sitting pretty quietly as well. Ookami was leaning on at tree but Yukan had no view of him since he was right behind him. It seemed Ookami was the only one in the team that wasn't questioning the mission. Then Kaemon broke the silence when he asked the same questions that were revolving around his head. He turned to look at Kaemon. Kaemon was probably completely suspicious of their clients just like Yukan himself and maybe even Inotsu. Then Yukan turned back to look at Captain Uyataka and awaited his answers.
.:Blu:.
Uyataka knew everyone was on edge and didn't want to keep secrets for much longer. "Alright, you want to know the truth? Well here it is." Uyataka then showed everyone a golden badge with a picture of clouds and a staff with a familiar orb on the stab. "What is that?" Inotsu asked as he looked at the badge with curiosity. "This is the royal badge of the Land of Twilight." Upon hearing that, from behind his mask, Inotsu's eyes widened with surprise. "Th-The Land of Twilight?" Inotsu asked. "That's correct.... Princess Ruri, is the royal Princess and future guardian over the Land of Twilight, a land said to only exist within legends." Uyataka explained. Inotsu's stare turned to the princess with utter surprise. "Y-You're joking right? The Land of Twilight doesn't exist." Inotsu proclaimed. "Oh, but it does exist and proof has been given by Princess Ruri and her bodyguards. Inotsu, look at the orb on top of the staff. Does that remind you of anything?" Uyataka asked. Inotsu looked closely at the orb, and finally, he realized what it was. "Tasogare no Ishi 'The Stone of Twilight'...." Inotsu said. "That's correct, and you know that object is quite real. Let me give you guys a brief history lesson." Uyataka said. "Long ago during the time when the Sage of Six Paths was still alive, the nations we know today have yet to exist. When the Sage of Six Paths used Izanagi to create the world, it was known that he created a land of unimaginable beauty. He called this place, the Land of Beginning. The land was inhabited by people who held the powers we known today as ninjutsu and genjutsu. However, the Land of Beggining was solely created to be a land detatched from these lands we live on. The Sage of Six Paths knew war was inevitable within these nations and so created the Land of Beginning as a place of eternal peace and new beginnings. Long after the death of the Sage of Six Paths, the Land of Beginning was slowly changing. Their leader founded an orb called Seimei no Kyutai 'The Orb of Life', an orb created from the Sage of Six Path's chakra. This orb was infused with tiny bits of Izanagi's power. The orb's main purpose was to be used for maintaining the balance of life and death." Uyataka continued. "The leader of the Land of Twilight used it as so as he was a kind and intelligent man. He knew the power of the orb must not be used for selfish purposes. However, his descendants had grew to become greedy and powerhungry. There was a struggle amongst two princes. They fought over how the power should be used. One prince wanted to continue keeping balance. However, the other wanted to become an absolute ruler using the power of the orb. The two were evenly match in combat and by a stroke of pure misfortune, the orb was damaged to the point that it seperated into two smaller orbs. Those two orbs are the Tasogare no Ishi 'The Stone of Twilight' and the Hikari no Ishi 'The Stone of Light'. The evil prince knew that they would both die if they were to continue their battle, and so the evil prince stole one of the orbs and left, never to be seen again. The good prince would later become king and would try to search for the evil prince, but to no avail." "Everything had become peaceful again. Until recently, Ruri and her bodyguards explained to me that the descendant of that evil prince has returned with an army at his disposal. The kingdom of Twilight has been destroyed and taken over. Luckily, he does not possess the Royal Badge in order to go from that land to this land. Five days from now will be the day that he'll be able to create a new Tasogare no Ishi and a Royal Badge. Our real mission is to assassinate him before he has the chance to create the two items. The reason why I couldn't tell you guys before is because it will jeopardize all of us. Kyosuke has informed me that a spy holding a weak version of the Royal Badge has come to this world seeking the Princess. If that spy were to find any of us, he might be able to get the information that we will be arriving in the Land of Twilight to stop the tyrant who has taken over it." "Furthermore, the Ryu no Shippo was in-fact just a mere coincidence that took us off our time path. They had nothing to do with the entirety of this mission. Now we have but one focus, to get to the Land of Twilight and assassinate the tyrant so that Princess Ruri can regain the thrown." Uyataka finished. "I see.... That's quite an elaborate and difficult task.... How did the Tasogare no Ishi get here in the first place?" Inotsu asked. "The Princess and her bodyguards escaped with it, but was confronted by the spy. Luckily, they were able to restrain the spy and escaped. However, in a stroke of bad luck. The Tasogare no Ishi was lost and apparently founded by a treasure hunter who of course brought it to Konoha to have the ANBU deliver the artifact to Kirigakure. But know that's not our concern. The Tasogare no Ishi won't be needed." Uyataka explained.
Mysterium Tremendum
Kaemon listened carefully to each and every word that left Uyataka's lips. The story enraptured him for a little while, he had a very deep curiousity and yearning for history ever since he first taught himself to read. Kaemon brought his hand to his chin in a moment of thought before speaking, "How do we know for certain the Ryu no Shippo were not involved with this descendent or were sent for the Princess? I'm not entirely sure we can rule out their complete and total irrelevance to this mission completely just yet. Just how did this descendent get a hold of this army that is now in control of the land of twilight? What kind of ninja will we be dealing with here, And furthermore..." Kaemon took a glance at Ruri and her bodyguards, "Thinking entirely on it I'm not so sure I want this BRAT on the throne. I might be being a little paranoid here but something just doesn't seem right about this entire mission. We're to sneak into the royal throne of the land of twilight and kill this man within five days! He's bound to be heavily guarded especially with a spy that has knowledge we'll be coming for him, he'll have taken precautions probably by now to secure an elite guard. We could very well be marching to our deaths if we don't know what we're dealing with, do you have a plan as to how we're to accomplish this feat?." Kaemon paused for a second, "I hate to see it like this Uyataka, but I smell something foul with this mission and the more I look at it the more I spot places where this house of cards can come crumbling down." Kaemon ceased his outburst standing up and looking around at everyone present waiting for a response.
Warrior_Tal
Well that is a short summary of what we are really here for in the first place. -It seemed like one of those long story short type of deals. A short explanation of what they were really here for in the first place. The mission that was to take place, and furthermore..... the continuation of protecting the princess and her guards. His gaze moved over to the princess and her guards. His ANBU mask flickered with the shimmering light of the camp-fire. The smoke rising above the trees that the sat under. The words from the captain drilled into his head like no other. Everything was absorbed and quickly processed.- Either way it seems this is the kind of mission that requires at least some kind of protection. Although many may not like it; I will keep the princess safe along with her guards. -Even with the sudden out-burst of Kaemon; Ookami stood firm and prepared not even worrying about what was to come. Questions came and then were dismissed. For the moment he completely ignored the questions that were coming up into view. His stature of leaning against the tree did not move. He remained completely the same waiting for everyone to get a word in.-
BLUR
Yukan smiled at Kaemon. He felt the exact same way. The mission was still not adding up. There was still something wrong with the whole thing. Yukan, still sitting, also added, "How can we be so sure that the spy isn't hearing us now then? Especially since we have stopped and took up camp." He turned to look at Kyosuke, who was red with anger. Yukan fully expected him to get up and try to attack Kaemon for calling the princess a brat. Of course, that would lead to his own death so he probably wasn't stupid enough to try. Yukan began thinking about what Kaemon had asked. "How did he get a hold of an army as powerful as Uyataka says? Where had he been hiding all this time? Could it be that he has convinced one of the Five Great Shinobi Villages to help him? If so, what would that lead to? And the last thing we have to realize is that the Ryu no Shippo could very well be working with this man, and they are making sure that know one knows..." He, just like Kaemon, began having doubts about the mission. "We don't even know what we are heading into..."
.:Blu:.
Uyataka listened to Kaemon's various questions and doubts. Once Kaemon called Ruri a "Brat", Kyosuke stood up and looked as if he was ready to kill Kaemon. "Brat?! How dare you insult the Princess like that!" Kyosuke shouted while angrily walking towards Kaemon. However, Inotsu walked in between Kyosuke and Kaemon to make sure nothing would happened. Inotsu didn't say anything after listening to the story. Though Inotsu also has his own doubts, he trusted Uyataka's judgement on things and didn't question what he explained. "Stand aside shinobi!" Kyosuke shouted at Inotsu. "Please Kyosuke, it's alright, just stop it." Ruri pleaded. "That's enough!" Uyataka shouted, causing everyone to be quiet. "Are all you trying to give away our position to any possible enemy in the area?" Uyataka asked. Uyataka then turned to Kaemon. "Kaemon.... How untrusting are you? After all these years you still haven't change? You don't trust me, your captain? You really think I would put all of your lives in danger if I didn't know the details of this mission? I pity you Kaemon. You don't deserve the title of ANBU if you don't have any trust in your teammates, and further more, these are our clients. You cannot speak to them as so." Uyataka explained. "If you still have your doubts about this mission and are too afraid to complete it then you can leave here, simple as that." Uyataka said then turned to Yukan. "Your expression tells me that you have the same doubts as Kaemon don't you. Fine, if you two are scared about uncertainty, then by all means I, myself will complete this mission alone. Ookami, Inotsu, how about you two? Do you want to leave?" Uyataka asked. "A mission is a mission, and I trsut your judgement Captain. I'll continue the mission." Inotsu responded. Uyataka then looked at Ookami, but judging by his character, Uyataka knew the Ookami would not abandon this mission either. Uyataka then looked back at Kaemon and Yukan. "Now.... I know there are a lot of aspects about this mission that we're not 100% sure about, but when have we ever been 100% sure about something? Missions will always be filled with uncertainty, but that's no excuse in questioning the mission itself. You two seem to have forgot something very important.... and that is keeping faith. You can go back to the village if you two like, otherwise, you can trust me." Uyataka said, then left into his tent. Kyosuke stared at Kaemon with anger. Just when Kyosuke was beginning to open up to the idea that shinobi aren't so bad, once again, Kyosuke's heart is closed. Kyosuke took Ruri by her hand and walked her into her tent, followed by Sonba. Inotsu stared at Kaemon and Yukan. "I respect whatever choice you two will follow. I'm on guard duty for tonight." Inotsu said. Inotsu then disappeared with the body flicker jutsu.
Mysterium Tremendum
Kaemon didn't flinch in the face of Uyataka's cold words and when all was finished looked Kyosuke in the eye before turning his head to Uyataka, "You still have yet to answer any of my questions. If this traitor you speak of has the backing of one of the Hidden Villages we could be getting ready to light the fuse for the next Great Ninja War!! It is a very real possibility and one we must contemplate and assess fully. You said the traitor could not be found after he left the land of twilight, what if he stayed within one of the hidden villages. Such a hiding spot would ensure his survival since the land of twilight would not be able to reach him. The traitor also had one thing that throws my faith in you to complete shambles: information. The traitor would know all the ins and outs of the land of twilight, their military, their location, their procedural ninja training, and who knows how many contacts he established within the village that still hold till now, families easily pass down their loyalties. That would make a VERY interesting bartering chip in exchange for safe harbor and more. Many Hidden Villages wouldn't even hesitate to accept a man bearing such information about a land that many thought to be little more than a fairy tale!! Are me and Yukan the only ones that are willing to see what we could be getting ourselves into here!! And further..." Kaemon turned back to Kyosuke and spoke once more, this time with poison dripping off of every word, "I don't trust you, ever since this mission's begun you've been nothing but rude to us and claim its because we're shinobi. Whatever your reasons I highly doubt their reasonable and have the backing of proof other than your own animosity toward what we do for a living. I for one also have no proof that can implicate you in any crime but your attitude these past few days has shown more of your true colors than I'm willing to say is justified or even natural." Kaemon ceased his speech and backed up before addressing the circle of ninja that gathered around him. "I don't know if I'm going to stay with you here. My mind is telling me to make the wisest decision and continue this mission on my own and with Yukan should he choose to come with me and he really does share my suspicions as you infer, but I don't know yet. I will make my decision in a few hours when I've had time to think more and gather my thoughts, consider what I have said and maybe you might begin to see reason. Kaemon walked away from the group and threw open the entrance to his tent.
Warrior_Tal
Is everyone on edge about this mission? -Ookami didn't move through the entire explanation. He didn't even have to give and gestures that he would be sticking in with this mission to the very end. Although, he would've liked to go and give Kaemon and Yukan a lecture on how a shinobi's job is to accept any type of mission despite the unwavering circumstances that may follow along with it. It seemed like no matter how long they have been together arguing was still one of those high possibilities between them. Inotsu was one that allowed his actions speak out about this mission and fulfilling it to the end. The captain was on the same page it seemed along with Ookami himself. His gaze shifted over to the princess and her guards who entered into their tent. To think that Kyosuke was starting to trust them, and now he was in the midst of darkness once more for the simple words that one of them spoke of.- -Wasn't there a doubt in his mind that one could simply be quiet and take the mission as it seemed. Even if it was some kind of assassination mission like any other. There was the possibility of just simply leaving. Well that was not in Ookami's case. He wanted to see this mission to the end. Escort or not. Assassination or not. Letting out a sigh Ookami looked away from everyone else; his gaze moved past the fire into the forested area. His ANBU mask hidding everything in terms of facial appearance.-
BLUR
Yukan scratched the back of his head. How was Uyataka able to read his mind through Yukan's facial expression when he was wearing a mask? Perhaps he is even more skilled than people say. But Yukan didn't know why Uyataka expected him to trust him fully when this was his first, or maybe second, mission they have been on together. "Either way it doesn't matter, I'll trust Uyataka. But he still hasn't answered the good questions Kaemon has asked. Then he turned to see Kaemon getting into a battle of words with Kyosuke, reflecting Yukan's own thoughts about the guy. Then Kaemon told the group that he would most likely continue the mission on his own and mentioned Yukan should come with him if he thinks he should and if he really does share Kaemon's suspicions. Yukan looked at everyone's faces. He couldn't really tell what they were thinking with those masks on. Then Yukan turned back to see Kaemon going into his tent. Yukan sighed, then he got up and walked towards Kaemon's tent. He opened it slightly just enough to put his head in. He took off his mask, something he rarely did since becoming an ANBU, showing his red violet eyes. It was a sign of trust. He glared at Kaemon before he smiled slightly. "Kaemon, I realize there is much to be suspicious about of this mission, but you have to think about what your saying. There is nothing you can do alone that you can't do with the team. We have to stick together, that way we'll get more information about the mission and maybe even wipe away all reasons to be suspicious. If you still think it's better to go on alone though, I can't go with you. There is always more strength in numbers," Yukan finished. He put his mask back on, awaiting Kaemon's final answer. Mysterium Tremendum
Kaemon looked at Yukan and answered, his voice back to its old tone, "I respect your decision Yukan. I'm serious when I say I'll continue this alone though. It may require some drastic measures though. If Uyataka can't give me a good answer by tommorrow, I'm taking things into my own hands. If I had to choose though, I'd rather not resort to such a measure though since it would mean the end of my friendship with all of you, the end of my career as an ANBU, and as a Leaf Ninja. If it comes to that, I won't hesitate to go forth with it but I'll wait and see what Uyataka has to say about it tommorrow." Kaemon paused for a second. "Have you ever heard of the Ibaraki clan's Forbidden Blood Ritual? Its a powerful ceremony that once finished grants the initiate a power boost and the usage of all the forbidden techniques that the Ibaraki were once infamous for, one though interests me the most. It comes with a price though and its for that reason that I'd rather not go through with it. The Forbidden Ritual alters the person's blood content by burning a seal on their neck that turns their blood almost a pure black and granting side effects that led to the Ibaraki's downfall. I brought the ingredients for the ritual with me in case I needed it since I had a bad feeling about this mission from the start. Should things escalate to the point that I need to use it though and you and I are forced to become enemies than I wish you well. I'm sorry but I cannot follow Uyataka if he chooses to ignore my suspicions nor will I turn away from this mission. I trust him, but his ignorance will end up costing us too much to ignore, too many lives may now ride on this mission. Good night, Yukan." Kaemon turned his head and drifted off into a peaceful slumber.
BLUR
Yukan nodded Kaemon good night, a little startled after what he just said. Yukan turned around and walked away from the tent before sighing. He wasn't sleepy, and he hadn't even set up his tent to begin with. Yukan looked up at the sky, and spotted a constellation he didn't know very well. "The stars in that constellation don't have to worry about their team breaking up." He sat down right where he was stargazing. "I'll fall asleep right here. The stars will be my watch. If only I was a star, the amount of light they produce, it's unbelievable. So far away yet their light shines to Earth." Then Yukan went from sitting down, to lying down. His eyes were very heavy suddenly, so he closed them, and he fell asleep.
