Alright, guys. I am returning to the Fanfic section with an all-new story, which will hopefully live up to your expectations. I want this little adventure to be sufficently good enough in prose, writing, and other literary devices that it will rekindle your confidence in Pokemon fanfics and, fanfics in general. Hopefully. And, I'm not saying all the stories in the Fanfic Section are bad; some of them are true gems. However, there seems to be an onslaught of bad fanfics every year, and, hopefully, this story will give you a place to rest your eyes after the murders in writing you will undoubtedly see. But enough of this blabber. Time to get down to the story. So, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you-
It was with a tired and beleaguered air that the sea vessel known as the S.S. Amelia pulled into the docks of Hiun City. A great journey had been made to get here, as the distance between the continents of Johto and this new land, Isshu, was nothing to scoff at. The captain of the ship, a rather rotund man named Mizushima, sat in his worn captain’s chair, tired but a little proud, after he finally pulled into the dock called Liberty Pier. A water-travelling record, at least for the crew of the S.S. Amelia, had been set with this journey. The journey had been so long, a stopover at Hoenn and then the Battle Frontier had been needed, with much oil and other supplies consumed for this single voyage. But the captain did not care. His passengers had paid great sums of money for this voyage, and this fact combined and the simple success of even reaching Isshu had pleased the captain. He was content, and it showed in the next statement the corpulent man made over the ship’s intercom.

“Passengers, this is Captain Kichirou Mizushima speaking. We have reached our destination, Hiun City, concluding the journey from Olivine City. Welcome to Isshu, ladies and gentlemen!”

An excited muttering arose from the entirety of the ship, not dissimilar to that sound children make when about to open a present. Passengers simultaneously rose up in cabins all over the ship, looking at each other with anxious, happy faces, every single passenger excited by the prospect of finally seeing the land they had all heard about, the land they had all wondered about. Every single passenger, that is, except for one.

“Kyo! Wake up! Dad needs you up and ready!”

With a sudden jerk, the young man known as Kyo Takenada awoke. Glancing around sleepily, he saw a dark room with what might be a dresser in the corner and a suitcase in front of it. There was nothing else except a bed in the room, which Kyo was laying on. It was his cabin on the ship, Kyo’s sleep-drenched mind finally comprehended. And that pale pink thing lying on him- wait, what was that!?

“Aah!” Kyo shoved the thing off his chest sending the creature flying off the bed. A loud smacking noise could be heard, and a second later Kyo heard, “Sloooowwwpoooke.” Come up from roughly the same location the thing had landed.

“Slowpoke! I’m so sorry!” Kyo shook his head to get the rest of the sleep out and gathered up the family Pokémon, Slowpoke, in his arms. The Water Pokémon looked up at his balefully, outraged by the act of stupidity Kyo had just committed. Kyo scratched Slowpoke on the tip of its ear in way of trying to gain forgiveness, and suddenly a hard knocking noise echoed around the room.

“KYO! Come out here!”

Kyo suddenly realized he knew the voice and, grumbling, he moved to the cabin door and opened it. A small, petite girl dressed in a matching blue blouse and skirt stood there, her curly black hair pulled back with a barrette. As if to offset this good-child look, a devilish smile was affixed on the girl’s face. Not for the first time, Kyo wondered if this girl was a hellish creature in disguise. A Magmar, maybe.

“Kyo, Dad says you need to get your butt out of bed and moving. We’ve arrived.” Mieko Takenada, Kyo’s little sister, smirked as she looked her older brother over, noting the rumpled clothes and disorganized hair, which was quite similar to hers. “I can see you’re quite prepared, Ani.”

“Shut up, Mieko.” Kyo retorted, turning slightly to turn the lights on and assess the situation. There was a malicious giggle behind him, but then Mieko left. There was a grunt from Slowpoke’s general direction and Kyo smiled down at him. The Pokémon had never really liked Mieko, either.

“Alright, I better clean and fast, right Slowpoke?” Kyo said critically as the clothes and other personal items strewn around the room became visible in the light. “You gonna help me out here?”

“Slooooowpoke.” And that would be a no, if Slowpoke turning around and leaving the room was any sign.

“Where is the boy?” Masato Takenada glanced at his Pokétch irritably, then turned away to look at the S.S. Amelia again. He tapped his foot impatiently, his white shoes making loud slapping noises against the cement base of the pier. A chill tore around him, making him pull his blue windbreaker in tightly. He looked around, and yep, his other two children were here, standing quite close to Masato as people embarking from the ship surged around them. His other two children had shown up, so where was his eldest son?

“I told him to get up, Dad, so I don’t know where he is.” Mieko piped up innocently. Masato grunted and mussed her hair up affectionately.
“Well, he better get here soon, ‘because our ride arrives in ten minutes and I do not like to keep people waiting.” Masato said, impulsively looking at his Pokétch. “Actually, make that five min-”

“Dad! Wait, Dad! I’m here!”

Startled, Masato looked up just in time to see a teenager in a rumpled red T-shirt and blue jeans tear away from the onslaught of people, and land next to Mieko. Bright green eyes looked out from underneath shaggy, curly black hair, a panting mouth and heaving chest showing the dash the boy had made to get there.

“Kyo!” Masato said sharply. “You kept your brother and sister waiting for nearly fifteen minutes! What do you have to say for yourself?”

“Well, the room service is terrible- it took me forever to clean up.” A giggle came from the youngest of the Takenadas, Haruko, a cherubic-faced boy who was barely out of his toddler years, but Kyo’s father still looked stern.

“This is not a joke, young man. You nearly kept us from meeting our ride to Kanoko Town. And then we would have been stranded here-”

“Slowpoke.”

Faces turned downward, looking at the creature that had just joined their conversation. Slowpoke looked up at them in return, almost seeming to smile. Since, turns out, Slowpokes are really slow, he rarely ever got places on time. But, by god, he made sure everyone noticed when he got there. The Takenadas looked away and resumed their conversation.

Kyo was moderately solemn by now. “I’m sorry, Chichi, so sorry for keeping you waiting.” Though I would’ve preferred if we didn’t come here at all, was what Kyo didn’t say.

Masato gave him the stern look for a second longer than pulled out a map. “Okay, so Koenma-san said he would meet us by the Café on Slim Street. We had better get going.” Makato turned on and heel and advanced towards the city of Hiun, his two younger children trailing behind. For his part, Kyo had finally noticed the city looming over the docks, and he gasped despite of himself.

Tall, glittering skyscrapers like nothing he had seen stood over him proudly, a marvel of today’s technology. Hiun City seemed almost living, creatures bustling up and down the streets, balloons and Flying Pokémon soaring between the buildings. It was probably the greatest thing 15-year-old Kyo Takenada had seen in his short, short life…but quickly, rather more quickly that he would have though, Kyo would see things that would make Hiun City look rather insignificant.

“Kyo! Hurry up!”

“Oops! Coming!” Kyo took one last look at the Hiun City skyline, and then raced after his dad. Well, he may not like being here, but Isshu was impressing Kyo so far.

P.S.: Actually, the real chapter is longer and not as disappointingly short of Pokémon as this story, but it turned out to be so long that I decided to deliver it in parts so it would be more manageable to read. So, you'll have to wait for the true meat of the action.
