DARKPLANT RISING
It romanticizes disturbing behaviour like stalking, suicide, misogyny, and pedophilia, giving readers an unrealistic and downright frightening idea of what love is.
Don't all yandere anime do that?

CrabHelmet
Don't all yandere anime do that?
They're generally played either for laughs or for horror (or both), not for ZOMG TWU WUV DWAMA. And even then, that only covers stalking, maybe suicide in unusual cases (though it will still be played as a mental illness rather than love), possibly some misogyny if this is presented as perfectly normal and natural (which it never is), but has no correlation with pedophilia. NeoDemonX
My girlfriend hates Twilight but the only thing she likes about the movies/books are the werewolfs.
HypoThermus
I have to say, I was slightly amused upon re-calling something that you have very well pointed out, Floyd. Is it just me or have a considerable number of people forgotten that this series has been aimed at a particular audience? That audience being young teenaged girls. I can safely say I haven't really chosen to rant about this series for some time, the only times I have ever done so is when some ijit goes and shoves a copy of the book in my face.
And that my friend is the problem. People that hate on Twilight because it screwed with the nature of vampires are being stupid because that's done all the time. You can take creatures like vamps and re-imagine them in many ways. If the story is well written it shouldn't matter if vamps can go out in the sun of if they aren't blood thirsty animals. The handling of the mythos isn't the problem. This is the problem
It romanticizes disturbing behaviour like stalking, suicide, misogyny, and pedophilia, giving readers an unrealistic and downright frightening idea of what love is.
Also, just because it is written for a younger audience doesn't mean the characters can't be well written.
