Rock: One of the greatest forms of music ever. From 1930 to 2010, the face of rock music has changed. Fancy jackets and guitar skills transformed into comfortable clothes and repetitive beats. Need evidence?

From this point, rock has been affiliated with guitar and drums only music (i.e. "Home"), and is often mixed with Metal bands, i.e. Metallica, Seether, Disturbed, 3 Inches of Blood, or Slipknot. My questions for you; is rock changed forever? Is there nothing we can do? How can we seperate rock from pop? And just WHEN will we hear more from our favorite rock bands?

Comment, be critical, and stay Goode.

Skillet, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Hinder and many others say no.

Modern rock shall prevail, yes...but what about classic rock?

Heard of Skillet. They got the female vocalist right? I only know of one band that does, and I'm pretty sure it's them.

Yes. Listen to "Hero" if you're unsure.

All the bands listed up at the top, Blue Oyster Cult, Kansas, Boston and many more also won't let it die.

@Black, yes Skillet has a female vocalist...the main singer's wife.

It's good to see fans of rock come together (Woodstock, amirite?)
Boston is great, I like a few songs by Blue Oyster Cult, and Kansas has some good songs, too.

Honestly I don't feel that it's dead or out of mainstream or whatever. Sure it's not how it used to be before but genres change.

It really depends on where you're looking though, if you stay with your local radio charts or whatever, then chances are high that you won't find anything you like, or that you'll feel like "your" music has forever left the face of the world.
But I do agree that it's turning more towards Metal though, the only pure Rock band I can think of and that I still like are the Scorpions. My bf is a fan of them, he likes anything 60s/70s/80s and sometimes modern stuff like Silvertide. Maybe one day we'll only have something like Rock-Metal?:S

Personally I mostly like Rock from the doujin scene like Demetori or IRON ATTACK! (see below) so our tastes clash a lot in general.

...But like I said, it's really turning towards Metal, don't know if it's good or bad.

Hardrock is mostly stuff like Silvertide.
But when I listen to Demetori, it really sounds like Rock turned towards Metal to me.

And yeah the kind of Rock that isn't turned that way is mostly radio music like Nickelback or stuff like Skillet, Three Days Grace, Red.
I can't really explain why it became like that but somehow I can't imagine having a Rock band with those leather jackets and that kind of sound and still like them. It's passé IMO, time to move to something else.
I think the Darkness tried to revive that kind of music but it wasn't very successful.

That was pretty good actually...I'm open to listening a lot of music, as long as it's good. Also, "Rock-Metal" has existed ever since Metal existed because Metal is an offshoot of Rock. It was a lot closer way back when in the 60s and the 70s with bands like Sabbath, but it still exists today.
Rock-metal? Hard rock already exists bra.

If your talking real 60s rock and roll theres only a select few bands out there keeping it alive, otherwise its mostly just homogenized mainstream radio rock.
Basically this. Not really too many big names from the 60s keeping it alive...Hendrix of course is, his legend will live on...I would say Santana still lives on as well. Eric Clapton, Neil Young, the Rolling Stones, and a few others also do a good job, listen to them sometime.

Not necessarily a bad idea, but things will move on only as people move on. Music is a progressive art, but only as progressive as the fans allow it to be. I'll forever love the bands you mentioned, but I would like to see some newer stuff take off.

Alter Bridge is kinda classic rockish at times, so there are still bands keeping it going. Rock isn't in danger of dying YET.

However, classical music is dying. Not that I listen to it, but it dying is not a good thing.

Favorite Band: Led Zeppelin, and to a lesser degree Deep Purple

Modern Bands: Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Foo Fighters ect.

Classic rock is dying a slow death. It's like that group of people crowding around the guy dying of cancer; everyone knows their going to die, but they stick by them. There are many classic rock stations (Imagine Guns n' Roses, Pegasus, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, Motely Crue, and Meatloaf playing all day.) that offer a chance to revisit rock's acid-toned pasts, but it's not enough.

New Rock bands died long ago, in the 80s. Some old Rock artists like Dylan and Springsteen still release albums now and then, but Breaking Benjamin and Nickelback ARE NOT Rock. Nickelback are shitty pop-rock and Breaking Benjamin are Metal. When it comes to defining the origins of Rock, the truth is it developed entirely from Jazz, which developed from Blues and Rag. Country & Folk are age old and from a different family altogether, Folk has been around for centuries. Country is Folk with an american style to it.

In my opinion, rock is dead to most younger people (teenagers, young adults, etc.). Times change and not many people listen to rock because of all the hip-hop, pop, and rap on the radio. I myself don't listen to rock, I'm more of a hip-hop and rap kinda dude. I do admit that rock is good. 3 in 5 rock songs I'll think are good.
