TheComposer vs. FTW(For The Wynn)

...well all that is true, this contest has been over since yesterday.

Edit: It shall be edited in a little while.

I suppose I should at least respond to you Alfred, seeing as you are right as far as that goes. I don't give much consideration to the meta, because imo the meta is crap. All it is about is FTKs and OTKs and OP'd cards. For the record, you are sort of right. The vast majority of decks rely on a single very powerful card and/or an OTK. This doesn't always mean that OTKs are broken, though. Shapesnatch OTK isn't. Everyone plays basically the same 4 or 5 decks (Lightsworns, Blackwings, the occasional Gemini Beatdown, X-Sabers) and that has been the case for as long as I can remember. WRONG AGAIN. The players that achieve the highest more often than not do indeed play Tier 1 decks, but not all of them do, certainly not. Besides, I don't duel in tournaments anymore. I don't have the time IRL or the funds to do so competitively and there are no local places anywhere near where I live to do so. Neither do I. That's why YVD exists. If I focused on just making cards for the meta, it would be even more of a travesty to me because that's not me. I make cards that I think would be fun to use, not for tournaments but just for fun. If the whole point of a game is to win while having fun, then shouldn't you make cards that let you win AND are fun? People wouldn't play Yugioh if it wasn't fun, and right now more people are playing it than ever before. Playing a lightning-fast, highly powerful deck is fun because you end up winning with style. That doesn't mean I won't ever make meta cards, sometimes I try to, but to focus all my effort on that is ridiculous. As for the rest about a worse name, worse OCG, etc. I agree, they are. There's not really an excuse for that. I've been suffering from a lapse in creativity lately, and I'm hoping something will "spark" from these matches. I have never claimed to be a great cardmaker. I always claim I'm a decent cardmaker because I accepted the truth of that. I will admit that although this is technically my win it is still in some ways my loss.

To be fair, in Realistic Cards, being realistic should be a priority - i.e. being highly playable in the current metagame. But sadly, pretty much no one thinks about playability when reviewing in Realistic. I aim to change that.

All good points. Hmm, a worthy endeavor. Anyway, those are my opinions, and opinions change with new information. I'm taking what you said to heart, and I'm going to update my style. Try some more innovative effects, become an OCG expert, learn about the meta, how it works, what I should and shouldn't use, etc.

It's rare I debate with someone open to other's ideas and opinions. Thank you for that.

I'm always open to other ideas. I'm far from perfect and the only way I'll get better is by learning what I'm doing wrong. Besides, if I'm going to preach to others to listen to people, I might as well practice it.

That's wonderfully eloquent, I applaud you for being so open. YCM needs more people like you.

Oh, and BTW, can you vote in my One-on-One contest? I'm in a bit of a pickle, I'm losing 4-1 to Newfie Shark somehow.

Oh I see. I just had something similar happen myself, where I was getting votes not for having the better card but because my challenger wasn't as well liked. So, I had to call the contest off and now we're going to redo it with new requirements and a Card A vs Card B system.

I would love to implement such a system (with the anonymous system I would probably be doing much better), but winning with the popularity block makes it even more of a great victory for me. Next One-on-One I'll do it though.
